Lerning too spel kurecktley

In a brilliant piece of prose from the AFT, the Washington State Teacher's Union, we are reminded of the proverb "by the fruit shall ye know the tree."

Certify Christine Gregoire!

Dear Union Member,

As you know, Christine Gregoire's gubanatorial election has already been certified by the Secretary of State. Tomorrow, the state legislature will also certify the election as fair and complete.

Hat tip, reader Douglas Jole.

1. Well, well, well. Maybe it isn't our students who should be required to take the WASL.

Welcome to AFT Washington's GetActive Center. AFT/WA represents faculty in colleges and universities as well as educational employees in K-12 and college districts.

They still misspell gubernatorial in the following statement at the web address below.

We're sorry, but this advocacy campaign has expired.

The short explanation of this alert was:

As you know, Christine Gregoire's gubanatorial election has already been certified by the Secretary of State. Tomorrow, the state legislature will also certify the election as fair and complete. However, some members of the Republican party still hope to overturn the election and are holding a rally in Olympia tomorrow to press their case. They have blanketed the state with a media blitz of television, radio, and newspaper ads. They claim they'll have as many as 10,000 supporters at the State Capitol on Tuesday to protest and to delay Governor-elect Gregoire's certification.

The Washington State Democrats are asking your help to urge your legislator to certify the vote by attending a counter-rally if possible. Or, at the very least, by writing your legislator or local newspapers.

You can contact your legislator by calling the state Legislative Hotline toll free at 1-800-562-6000 as soon as possible (before the certification vote at 10:30 a.m.) or by sending the e-mail message below (feel free to modify it) to your legislator via GetActive.

4. Hey, maybe they REALLY meant "goober," because that pretty much sums her up.

5. Should be "goobantorial". EVERYONE knows that, especially if CG is "illigitimitly" put in. Rally on my brothers and sisters!!!

REVOLT and Then REVOTE.

6. Hey this just shows their honesty. Obviously they TYPED this memo instead of doing it on Window (which has spell-checker). Maybe they learned something from Memogate!

As to the Revote I guess the rest of the Washington State citizens want the same options granted to KC voters... to vote again!

7. This election debacle should now be called Governor-gate. The Dems are trying to railroad it through in their status quo style and sweep it under the rug. However, noone knows what lies ahead or what lies (by the Dems)are ahead.

I will be with you all at the REVOTEWA rally in spirit !

8. Nothing new for our wonderful public schools. I used to get incorrectly spelled letters from my children's schools all the time. And the politicing they do. A teacher telling my child to tell me to vote for a certain president (dem. of course) And one teacher even told my daughter on Sept. 11,2001 that the attacks we had suffered that day were because President Bush was stupid. I kid you not! The reason my children are homeschooled...our incompetent schools and teachers.

9. Even if the Legislature certifies CG, we still have the Rossi contest of the vote, recommended by none other than Benjamin Franklin who said:

'Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.'

Have fun at the rally - wish we could be there with you!

10. What's with the "fair and complete" bit? That is exactly what the "Moo"-ve On letter said. Where did the get that, or are they guilty of plagerism too? I don't think that is what the legislature certifies to.

15. I know you are all at the rally right now, but as soon as you can, you just have to read today's Seattle Times!

http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_011105WABseattleonly_voteerrorsLJ.9b62bb97.html

My favorite bits:

"Oops — never mind.

Three days after King County election officials explained most of a controversial discrepancy between the number of ballots cast and voters known to have voted, the gap has grown again.

After whittling the discrepancy from 3,539 votes to 1,217 last week, officials yesterday said they had made a mistake.

The number of votes now unaccounted for is “somewhere around 1,800,” county Elections Superintendent Bill Huennekens said yesterday.

It’s impossible to come up with a precise number, Huennekens said, because workers are adding and deleting names of registered voters as they update the list in preparation for a Feb. 8 special election."

and also, this gem:

The state Democratic Party [?????]alerted county election officials to the goof shortly after the county gave a “reconciled” list of voters to the political parties and news media Friday, but the county didn’t publicly acknowledge the problem until yesterday."

16. "Tomorrow, the state legislature will also certify the election as fair and complete."

I am assuming the courts will remind the state legislature that it does not have the power of the pardon.

17. In today's Seattle times article about yet anohter error, the bits below just shows how ignorant/incompetent the KC election officials are:

"It’s impossible to come up with a precise number, Huennekens said, because workers are adding and deleting names of registered voters as they update the list in preparation for a Feb. 8 special election"

Haven't anybody heard of a back-up or snapshot? Why are using live registration database (if that's what they are using) to verify? Should they be using the snapshot of the database as of November 2? It seems to suggest that they have added names to cover up the initial discrepancy, and now they are explaining that this new error is caused by their attempt to cover up the initial 3500+ discrepancy. Hmmmmm.....? Even my own son would not be as stupid as these people.

18. Stephan

Before today I could not gauge the level of your cruelty or great sense of humour.

This reminds me of a sign that was carried outside the Broward County election commission in 2000. The sign read "If you can read this sign you voted for Bush". I am still roll on the ground when if I think of it.

19. Note to readers: In Washington the AFT represents almost entirely higher education faculty, not public school teachers. Some K-12 classified staff are represented by AFT as well.

21. SnoCo -

Ha ha ... yes, we do seem to have a "goober"-ment. Especially in Seattle and King County, where we are lucky if our elected officials aspire to the level of being a goober.

But, I am not sure it is fair to criticize eubonics like this.

"Gubament" is a correct spelling in eubonics.

22. Every Gregoirian union teacher knows that their candidate "won" the goobernatorial erection.

23. I don't know why people keep blaming the typo's on the "coder". Basically all programs to create html pages are wysiwyg. What you see is what you get. And even if it isn't coding the page involves pasting the memo into the part called the body.

24. I just had to redo this post:

"'Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.'

Have fun at the rally - wish we could be there with you!

I had heard the first part of that before, but the second half was somehow always dropped! I think it is more than appropos...

Thanks, Mac!

25. They are following the LETTER of the law, not the spirit of it. For the record they are not certifying the election as fair and non-fraudulent, they are just "finalising", I use that term loosley, a process that is thier job to finalise. Sam Reed certified it so it is their job to put the WA state stamped seal on it, I don't agree with it but it's their job.
Don't take it as God's hand reaching out of the clouds and saying Christine you shall rule now, it's just temporary. She better not get to comfortable as she might be vacating the mansion just as quick.
