Irons in the fire
King County Councilman David Irons is scheduled to officially announce his campaign to challenge County Executive Ron Sims.
Yesterday, on the eve of his formal announcement, Irons stopped short of declaring his candidacy, but just barely.
I think that means there's a 99.98% chance he's going to go for it.
A press conference is scheduled for noon Saturday at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 700 Fifth Ave. N. in Seattle, in the Queen Anne Room.

1. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am definitely going to DEMAND that Mr. Irons prove that he has had "good home training."
I don't want a KC Executive that doesn't make his bed, eat all his vegetables, and use the potty properly.
2. Pity. He'll be roadkill. The KingCo GOP is a train wreck.
3. Good. Go get'em.
4.
"I think that means there's a 99.98% chance he's going to go for it." Funny
5. Actually the "train wreak" is sitting on the tracks. It's the Ron Sims Express and it looks like a smoking, burning pile of crap right now.
Sims could only be re-elected right now by using all the ditributed voter fraud he can muster.
Do you really think that his opponent is going to let all of the news surrounding this last election, the CAO fiasco and other crimes go unnoticed?
He's toast, you "Simsonites" should be looking for another candidate right now.
6. At least Irons will have a shot at Sims and it won't be a 25% blowout like last time. Even with Sims' stock having fallen so far from one year ago, Irons still is running after being redistricted out of his current seat and is at a disadvantage having represented a lesser-populated region of King County. I can't say I blame him, after what happened with the council downsizing. It would have been hard for him regardless, might as well go for the big-time.
7. David Irons is an honest man. For those who are sickened by all the corruption of King County, he is a very good bet. For those who thrive on the corruption, Sims is your man. Just keep in mind Sims does not care who he burns in his quest for his utopia.
8. Who...me?, you sound like the Iraqi Information Minister, or possibly, the old Soviet Politburo. Just keep saying it and maybe it will come true, right? Well, good luck with that, we all gotta have a dream. Don't let the facts get in the way of the truth, ya know. Sims is an idiot and, as jaybo, pointed out the real train-wreck. Sure, maybe the KCGOP is not the majority party right now but people can only be pushed so far before they start to push back. That time is now. So put up or shut up. You probably one of those folks that was convinced there was no way that Bush could have ever won a second term. Sorry to burst your bubble there, buddy, but he was the first president elected with the majority of the vote since, gasp, his father. That's right, your man Bubba never broke the 50% mark.
As far as David is concerned. Cindy said it right. David is an honest man and one of THE great public servants in politics today. He carries the sort of pragmatic, moderate conservative views it will take to win an election in this county and when it happens then we'll really be able to start cleaning up the train wreck that Sims has been making for so long.
