There seems to be an epidemic of former Attorneys General giving commencement speeches. Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft spoke at the graduation ceremony of Northwest University on Saturday. Former Washington State Attorney General Christine Gregoire spoke at WSU on Sunday.

Note the words in the lower left-hand corner "count again". It appears that the Accounting graduates rearranged their caps in order to have some fun at the former Attorney General's expense.

By cleverly masking it with the word "Accounting", they probably attracted the attention of everybody sitting behind them (which is basically everybody) at least once during the ceremony. I'm sure that their heads got plenty of attention once they pulled the switch off.
Point well taken.

Posted by: Patrick Garner on May 9, 2005 11:17 AMSpeech was incredibly boring. She made references to talk radio. John Carlson & Co have really gotten into her head. Then Fraudoire also spoke of how you have to stand up for what you believe in and make yourself heard. Only if you agree with the left apparently.
One attendee held up a "Not My Governor" sign and was quickly escorted out. The audience response to her was tepid at best.

I received a B.A. from WSU, but did not attend the graduation ceremony that year.
Perhaps WSU was trying to give out only B.S. degrees this year,
except for some brave Accounting graduates.
Who invited Fraudoire? And why? Is this part of the "Great Heeling Tour"?
Enquiring minds want to know.
Pullman is a blue island in a sea of red. 27 of 30 Pullman precincts went for Fraudoire last November, thanks no doubt to those left leaning profs and hypnotized students. From what I have been reading, it seems there may have been some student political hijinks at the ballot box that hopefully will backfire in the court case in Wenatchee.
I'm sure the former Attorney General wanted to take a victory lap for those recent faculty pay increases and President Rawlins wanted to bend her ear about some WSU projects that didn't get funded.

I bet she was mightely confused when the giggles started. I relish thinking about her wondering if she had a big buger hanging out her nose and showing up on the big video screen.
Posted by: DeadManVoting (aka Iguana) on May 9, 2005 02:49 PMUnfortunately, its online articles are subscription only, but there are some interesting comments from the Governor pro tem, such as: "the recently completed legislative session was the most prolific in the state's history", we should hardly notice the new gas tax, Eastern Washington motorists won't flock to Idaho for cheap gas (yeah, right) and even though most of the gas tax revenue will go to the west side, one day Eastern Washington will have a need the whole state will come together for (insert Stefan's laughtrack mp.3 here).
Posted by: On the Far Right Side of the State on May 9, 2005 02:50 PMNot quite, if I recall. The 1993 budget actually raised taxes $682 mil, if I remember - which is the highest tax increase in state history.
Wait. Hooooold on. Ummmm, lemme check.
Well I be. That was the last time the Ds controlled the House, Senate and the governor's mansion.
Coincidence? Couuuuld be ....
Posted by: jimg on May 9, 2005 05:38 PMWhen she visited Pullman on Friday, she said, she told local leaders about plans to replace an old bridge.
"There isn't a community I can go to where something isn't being done," Gregoire said.
An old bridge????? A recent article in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News stated that Pullman could eventually hope to receive about $100K in gas tax money. You could hardly build a foot bridge with that. And something done in every community? The arrogance of the pork-barrel effort to sell this gas tax is staggering.
