"Dean Logan Ponders Election Contest Ruling"

Croker Sack uncovered the internal version of Dean Logan's post-ruling press release.

The internal version somehow seems more factual than the public version.

4. JDB,

“Parody” – look it up.

“Injustice is relatively easy to bear; what stings is justice.” -- Henry Louis Mencken (1880 - 1956)

I had fun writing it. Stefan got a chuckle out of it. You felt the sting.

Not bad.

5. The real laugh is that Dean Logan writes as if he's going to keep his job. Once it becomes clear to Sims that his political future is in jeapordy until he acknowledges that were mistakes were made, I suspect he'll get rid of Logan faster than you can say "Bank Envy."

6. How interesting now to look back at this comment by Micajah and realize he got it totally right:

Stefan,

If you take the time to read the explanation of the law on my blog, you might not be so sure that the courts have jurisdiction to decide a contested gubernatorial election in Washington.

http://crokersack.blogspot.com/2005/01/can-wa-courts-decide-contested.html

If The Seattle Times correctly reported the issues raised in court by the Democrats on Wednesday, it appears that they did as I expected: They waited until Gregoire the Pretender took the oath of office before submitting a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction.

The contested election "shall be decided by the legislature." --Article III, section 4, Washington State Constitution

The thieves hold the combination and key to the vault of Washinton politics.

7. The new standard of trust. Would you buy used shoes from this man, Dean Logan?

8. Well, remember though that Judge Bridges chose between the two choices argued -- no jurisdiction at all and jurisdiction in the courts rather than the legislature. And, he chose to find that he had jurisdiction.

What we learned is that when the question changed from what it was in the legislature on January 10-11 ("Was anyone duly elected?) to what it was in the court ("Did the legislature declare the wrong person to be the duly elected governor?"), the courts could offer no remedy since the question couldn't be answered.

The legislature made an arbitrary decision to install Gregoire in office, and Judge Bridges ruled that he had no authority to decide whether the legislature's arbitrary decision should be set aside simply because it was arbitrary.

"Sarcasm" -- look it up.

"I believe in luck: how else can you explain the success of those you don't like?"
-- Jean Cocteau

Actually, as one of the few people I respect here, I appreciated the humor. However, if someone didn't explain it was a parody, next week half the posts would be citing it as proof of fraud.

And how could I resist not pointing out that it is the first instance of actual fraud posted on this board in six months?

Pax,

10. Sigh....

Listening to Logan in the canvassing tapes.....convinced me that this is probably EXACTLY what he's thinking......

That was halarious! And as I read it I could actually see the little snake licking his lips and his eyes shifting back and forth, back and forth, back and forth..

Brilliant. The highlight in what has otherwise been a very dismal day.

Right, like the 1984 date, if nothing else, didn't give it away. Come on, give some credit =P

15. Typo-- that should have been "give us some credit"

Even more Mikes than there were a couple weeks ago when we were talking off-list about this. Sheesh, I can't even keep my own posts figgered out anymore!

17. Micajah,

Is there a meaning to the date June 6, 1984?

18. MikeF

You're right... there's something about the name Mike and people of genius =P

Shannon

I would assume it has to do with the book 1984
