UPDATE, Sunday, 11pm: We have just a few spots left. Please RSVP ASAP if you're interested in attending. If you can't attend in person but would like to pose a question to Norm Maleng, please e-mail me your questions and I'll try to work them into the Q&A. The program will be shown later in the week on the Seattle Channel.

The special guest speaker at this month's (Monday, August 15th) gala meeting of the Downtown Seattle Republican Club is King County Prosecuting Attorney Norm Maleng.
The event will be held at the College Club, Fifth and Madison in downtown Seattle, starting at 6pm, featuring dinner and an after-dinner talk/audience Q&A with Mr. Maleng.
Among other things, he'll talk about his new initiative to combat auto theft, one of the few crimes that is on the rise. He'll also answer your questions. This will be a great opportunity to ask Mr. Maleng about some of the recent high-profile news stories his office has been involved in lately -- e.g. filing charges in Strippergate, the Dan Ring investigation, prosecution of election fraud
The only cost is for dinner at the College Club, which will be $22, all inclusive. Please RSVP to ensure a seat for dinner. More details on directions and parking here. RSVP to me at:

And save the dates for upcoming meetings --
Monday, Sep. 19th -- Attorney General Rob McKenna
Monday, Oct. 17th -- Bob Williams of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation
A "ring" was allegedly just busted in Spokane. These are people that work for licensing agents.
I sure hope someone asks him exactly how many have been prosecuted for vote fraud.
I will look forward to your post on this meeting!

I noticed you don't have the dates listed
her for steve hammond and reagan dunn.
Better yet why don't you purpose to the both
of them a debate between them.
I can almost guarantee you what will
happen.Reagan Dunn won't do it.For the
simple reasons that he thinks he has
a divine right to this nomination.
Reagan also knows that hammond clean
will clean his clock in a debate.
I would ask them both anyway.but
I don't think reagan dunn has the spine
to it.
I have been reading The Herald's articles about how the police are cracking down on car thieves. As a victim of car theft, I am happy to hear that they are cracking down on catching them. Unfortunately, they are not punishing the car thieves after they catch them. My car was stolen on July 5 from the Stanwood Park & Ride. The police officer who filed the report said the problem is that there is no punishment for the crime. He said that if they catch the person, they are let go before the ink is dry on the paperwork. He told me he has arrested car thieves with as many as 50 stolen cars on their record and they are booked and released.
They found my car with the thief in it. My car was the sixth car he had stolen. They found it in Placerville, Calif., on the side of the road with the car thief passed out drunk sleeping in it. There were more than 70 empty beer containers in the car and he only had it for three days. They did not charge him with a DUI because he was not driving when they caught him and he did not have the key in the ignition. His punishment: One night in jail, a hot shower and a free meal. I, as the owner of the car, had to pay for the towing and storage fees that came to $305. The car was trashed and not worth going to California to get. I feel that just is not right. I wish the paper would report what punishment these people are getting, if any. We use the catch and release fishing program to insure an abundance of fish in the future. Is that really the right approach for dealing with car thieves?
Posted by: Kirk on August 8, 2005 07:53 AMYep Kirk, I hear you. Good letter.
There have been numerous car thefts in Whitman County this past year. How brazen can you get? These people stole a motor home parked in front of a house during broad daylight. The wife thought the husband was moving it, and vice versa. They didn't realize it was gone for several hours. They never did find the motor home.
The State Patrol recently busted a car theft ring in Spokane. Quite sophisticated I might add. I hope that it will slow them down for a little while.
By the way, wasn't Norm's office one of the canvassers in the last election. Talk about risk/reward. Steal the election and you win the brass ring. Get caught stealing the election, so what. Get tough on crime. That's the rally cry.
Snuffy
Posted by: snuffy on August 9, 2005 02:42 PMAny punk caught stealing my car will receive a crash course in the Second Amendment. Screw Maleng- he's a washed-out bum without purpose, just like the rest of the County Council, and if you think there's any hope of real reform in this loser, then you deserve what you get.
