Great Moments in Public Education

KING 5 reports: "Cheerleading coach accused of teaching sex acts"

A high school cheerleading coach resigned after allegedly teaching her team how to perform certain sex acts.

It happened in the small Snohomish county town of Sultan, apparently during a team sleepover at the home of cheerleading coach Katie Chase.

KING 5 was not able to reach Coach Chase for comment. Perhaps she had her, uh, hands full.

4. Not sure how this relates to politics. Oh, wait, I get it....more Democratic conspiracy stuff. The coach is talking with these kids about sex, this will obviously hinder their development and they will grow up to vote liberally. Or is it that you guys are so uptight and Christian that the thought of this subject matter causes you to reach for a Bible, throw yourselves onto the floor and speak in tongues, while begging the good Lord for his forgiveness? For crying outloud, it was a little inappropriate talk. It was not Catholic priests giving new meaning to the sacrament with pre-teen children.

Lighten up for heavens sake!

5. Where are you going with this left foot? Are you proposing that the teacher shouldn't have resigned? Are you not abashed about the recent epidemic of female high school teachers preying on maturing human beings?

6. You know, when Jocelyn Elders was the Surgeon General this would never have happened (the cheerleading coach having to resign, I mean).

7. The key word there is "allegedly"...
Did she, or didn't she? Is she innocent until proven guilty, or is this all based on hearsay? Whose proof is being offered up here, anyway?

The only fact we have here is that she resigned. This means either that the coach admitted she did what she is reported to have done, or that she knew she couldn't win her case for some reason. One of the reasons may be that it's *very* easy for a girl to play the sexual harrassment card to get back at someone--and they are nearly always believed.

On the other hand, what part of athletics training involves sleepovers at the home of the coach?

10. It's going to be a tough thing for these girls to deal with in the short-run....but it will eventually "blow" over.
Seriously, it's a shame if true. Lots of great people volunteer & coach our kids. When stuff like this happens, it probably is the last straw for some. On the other hand, it is a wake-up call to parents not to just turn their kids over to someone else. Get involved in their outside activities. I wonder if any other parents were part of the sleep-over? If not, why not? Lot's of people expect teachers to make their stupid, undisciplined kids smart when the parent let's them watch TV or play on the computer and eat junk food...all unsupervied. The same thing happens with outside activities. Just a dumping ground for lots of parents...like free babysitting. Parents need to be involved & vigiliant. If they were....this might not have happened.

11. 2 left feet -

There is a difference between talking with a minor about sex in a health class environment and showing them how to do various types and positions in your home. There is nothing prudish about the parents being a little angry about it... it is wholly inappropriate for a coach to be, well, coaching them on how to do it.

13. Here you are folks—
The 2005 Statewide Valuations for 2006 Property Taxes are out.
Can you find this summary anywhere on the Internet??? NO.
Why is that? Because KingCo once again has figured out a way to TAKE from the rest of the State.
The Statewide Assesed Values have increased by 3.455%
Our Friends in KingCo have only increased by 1.76%….approx. 48% LESS than the state average.
What this means is a significant shift of the State Portion of Property Taxes from KingCo to the rest of the State.
Some other Counties are going to get hammered….
For example, Clallam County is up 11.7%
Jefferson County is up 5.8%
Counties where the disparity between average wages and cost of living will grow even wider due to this tax shift.
This is what happens with the current LEFTIST PINHEADED agenda manifest in the Growth Management Act. Only the wealthy can live “rural” lives is exactly where we are heading.
Just like in Amsterdam……
All the worker bees like in a RAT MAZE in the CITY.
The LEFTIST ELITE live in the beautiful, wide-open Country Villa’s.
The LEFTIST ELITE also have their FLAT in the City….but certainly do not want the other mere RATS to ever have a Country Villa like them!

14. Not long ago, the Seattle Times ran an overly dramatic series called "Coaches Who Prey." Of course, all the villians were men.

In reality, aggressive lesbianism is a huge problem in women's sports. Hetero women are often uncomfortable to the point of dropping out of some sports.

16. Misty--
I'd still like to know who was all chaperoning that "sleep-over"? Most parents would ask that question. Parents need to get more involved in their kids lives....not just get excited when someone else will take over so they can have a break. Sleep-over's at a coach's house???
Never happened even when I was a kid.
The parent's ought to be angry with themselves too....for not being more vigiliant.

Posted by: Mr. Cynical on January 7, 2006 01:32 PM
17. Mr Cynical -

One would think that the cheer coach was the chaperone, and given she was a woman and not a man, it would be reasonable to assume it would be harmless having a bunch of her girls over. I had a soccer coach in high school that we would go over to once or twice to play nintendo as a team.

Posted by: Mike H on January 7, 2006 01:43 PM
18. Personally, with the "anything goes" attitude in education today, I would be very leery about sending my daughter for an overnight with any coach or teacher, unless it was a school sanctioned, educational field trip, well chaperoned, and with lots of information and details, including personal knowledge of the chaperones, to the parents. Additionally, I agree that the cheerleading coach has no business instructing the girls in sexual practices. That's a little too much cheer! And if this was all so innocent, why did the coach resign? And how did the parents find out? Some of the girls must have had a "not so good" reaction to the "instruction", methinks.

My response was meant to be slightly humorous, I agree the coach needed to resign, but criminal charges? I don't think so. And for the record, I only have two left feet when I dance and I believe my wife has a few bruises to prove it. :)

21. As Billary Clinton and the rest of the Democrat Party leadership used for their mantra; "We're doing it for OR it's all about the children." "but oral sex is not sex" and so it goes.

This exemplifies the kind of stuff the SP's (secular progressives) want to do for the children. Of course, the NEA (locally the WEA) is an arm of the Democrat Party and in this case they were simply carrying out their mission, but they were so sorry - that she was caught doing so... The children's parents of those who were involved in the sleepover should look in the mirror and fault themselves - for negligance of being vigilant in raising their children, but not paying attention to what the children were up to. At least that is the way this story reads - that's my take and I'm sticking to it.

Posted by: KS on January 7, 2006 03:43 PM
22. I have another question. Exactly how was she teaching these girls about sexual practices? Was she using props? Were the props the girls themselves? I think a lot more clarification is needed. I.e. if she was "involving" the girls in the educational process, then there is a REALLY BIG problem which will, I guess, come out in the wash. If it was, indeed, interactive, there may be some assault involved.

Posted by: katomar on January 7, 2006 03:50 PM
23. In today's high schools, oral sex is all over the place. Boys to boys, girsl to girls, and last the old virginal hetero girl on boy.

It is not considered sex, buy like the old fashioned peyyring, just a little steamy fun.

I don't believe she taught them anything, but that the girls were talking and a good little Nazi Youth told the Gestao like she had been trained.

Sad. Too many little Nazis. I remember my youth well. And one of thse little Nazi girls from my school days killed her three children to save them and send them to heaven.

And the stigmatized school slut named Bunny died a heroic death from a horrible fire where she burned to death running in to try save her kids. Still make me cry.

26. Liberals love this kind of stuff. They provide beer for their kids at parties, teach them sexual positions, etc. all because "they're going to learn it anyway, so it might as well be in a "safe" environment, like at the coach's sleepover party."

It's all a load of crap. Kids need to slow way down on the timeline of exposure to some of the heavier issues of life. It's not that they should be naively kept in the dark, but that they need to learn there are real dangers associated with drugs, sex, etc. A 13 or 14 year old, barely has the maturity to deal with everything confronting them, especially if they have a heavy load of extracurricular activities, etc.

That's why this is especially bad. Reminds me of Mary K. Letorneau. The media was falling overthemselves to glorify her relationship with that boy, when the bottom line was that she groomed him for her benefit.

Posted by: Jeff B. on January 7, 2006 05:21 PM
27. I'm sure that the parents trusted the coach, as presumably they have gotten to know her over time. But we can all be surprised at times, and they have a right to be upset. Who really knows what exactly went on there. The TV news folks usually don't tell the whole story. Often it's worse than they say.

Jeff B.,
That pretty much sums it up!

Too many people are adopting the lazy and perverse attitude that "kids need to be exposed to things like sex, drugs and alcohol.. early - so they will develop some sense of *street wisdom*..and *social balance*."...
This is such a bunch of crap! It was our generation who was first thrown into this age of "free love" and our parents didn't know what hit them when it happened! It wasn't that they were permissive - it was that they were steamrolled by a movement and did not know how to handle it! Now - today's parents wrongly believe that allowing their children to experience these exposures to sex, drugs, etc..at the age of puberty...is somehow a "right of passage"..! They are so foolish. So freaking stupid!

There have been more examples of public school teachers, coaches, administration, bus drivers, etc..busted for sexual predatory behavior lately than there has been in any other profession! Sexual predators are *predators*! They will seek out positions to be near their victims...They will seek positions of authority over their victims... That's what they do! Parents need to lose the attitude that kids "need" to experience any of this crap...EVER!

These are dangerous times for kids. Parents need to hold them close and protect them - even if it means no stupid sleepovers! (Pssst...sleepovers are OK up until you are around 9yrs old...and only with responsible parents at home..after that they become nothing more than unsupervised evenings of adolescent indulgence in talk and/or activity involving sex, drugs, etc.....)

I will never allow my kids to indulge in this crap...and guess what?... they will be just great!
They won't have to go through the *druggie* phase to forget all of the nasty things they did while unsupervised...There will be no need for therapy..No wasted time and energy on guilt! They will be able to go easily into *real* life!

Imagine that!

33. With due respect to those of you conservatives who live in King County, man am I glad I don't live up there. Did anyone see that Goldstein of HA has announced his candidacy for Seattle City Council? Can you imagine the ultra-progressive agenda he will have lined up for Seattle? Scary. You might want to squirrel away a few of your hard earned dollars now in an offshore account, because if Goldstein gets elected, you will be paying more in taxes to fund any socialist schemes he takes a liking to. This is the guy whose thinks that generational wealth is a term for how the state makes money. Best to nip this little aspiring Marxist in the bud before he gets elected to a higher office and works on a bill to increase the estate tax to 100%.

I hope the voters in Seattle have the sense not to elect such a smug and indignant socialist like Goldstein, but then again, take a look at the rest of the elected idiots who run King County.

The arrogance of the progressives here in the Puget Sound is a fine example of aggressive statism. Frankly, a guy like Goldstein makes Ted Kennedy and John Kerry look downright humble and moderate.

I'm sure Stefan is licking his chops. If Goldstein so much as forgot to cross a "t" or dot an "i," you can bet Stefan will make it clear to all. I'm looking forward to watching Goldstein get dragged through public scrutiny without his safety blanket of four letter words.

38. Jeff B.--
I actually have to agree with jimg Jeff.
I truly hope the Seattle City Council appoints the unbashed Marxist David KLOWNstein. Goldy would make for great ink.....and would almost certainly have all more Moderate LEFTISTS running away from the KLOWNstein agenda.
I really think putting a few KLOWNS in perceived power on a local level and giving them a mike is critical in turning things around. People need a heavy dose of the Marxist Agenda in Seattle...as these self-proclaimed "Progressives" are very tactile....they need to touch and feel stupidity before they recognize it for what it is.
And another thing for all my friends who are RIGHT, it is always very simple to pick David KLOWNstein out in a room. All you have to do is look for 2 people talking....if one looks bored out of his f***ing mind and on the verge of suicide.......well that means the other one is KLOWNstein!

40. Once again, the LEFTIST PINHEADED KLOWNS are on their way to snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory!! Phil Talmadge has dropped out of race for State Democratic Party Chairman and this was in today’s P-I:
“Talmadge said he was told that Gregoire didn’t intend to take sides in the chairmanship race, “which didn’t really answer the question I had posed. And frankly, I think governors have a right to have state party chairs that they feel comfortable with.”
Talmadge said he only got into the race in late December at the urging of state Sen. Margarita Prentice of Seattle, an old friend of his and a personal enemy of Pelz, a former state Senate colleague.”

Pelz, a hairline-challenged admirer of Fidel Castro, will clearly give hope to the Republican Party. Pelz…who “fancies” himself a Seattle Progressive, will certainly be the “Howard Dean” conservatives so desperately hope will take over the State Dems.

46. I disagree with everyone here. Don't discount Goldstein, he is not stupid. He knows exactly what he wants and this is to further an agressive progressive agenda, and to get himself into a position where he can further himself as a mouthpiece for the left.

Winning means defeating everyone you can. There is nothing to be gained from letting Goldstein into office so he can hang himself. This is a blue state, it's pretty hard to remove these progressive lice once they dig themselves into the warm taxpayers hind.

Their ideas are poison to freedom and to individualism. Cynical come on, the signpost comment doesn't fly. Goldstein may be naive, he may be missing some of the scenery because he is so fixated on the progressive agenda, but he is not dumb. Ignore him, and more significantly the collectivist ideas that motivate him, at your own peril.

Anything else on your agenda that we shouldn't trouble our little heads about? Senator Murray's contributions from Indian gambling interests perhaps?

Thanks for the advice, but concerned parents who, by the way, have full responsibility for the faith, morals, and teachings of their children ought to be completely outraged by this latest example of depravity brought to us by our government "education system." The King County elections travesty continues without any discernable remorse by King Sims or his appointed Elections chief. There are plenty of other issues that every citizen and parent ought to be concerned about. Thanks to Sound Politics for raising the issues and trying to hold accountable those responsible. The upcoming state legislative session of more taxes, homosexual "rights" and marriage, gambling expansion, environmental insanity, etc. starts up today and there is plenty on their agenda we ought to be talking about.

If you aren't interested in these issues, fine, go someplace else or better still go outside and look at the sky.

50. Sorry to continue the off-topic rant, but I have to agree with Jeff B. Some of Cynical's impressions, I'm sure, are tongue and cheek humor, but we need to take Goldy seriously. Not because his beliefs and rhetoic are logical and reasonable, but because he appeals to an ever-increasing segment of our population.

Those born after 1965 are products of an agenda-driven, secular-humanistic society that has little basis for belief in anything that the media, school system, and their idiotic parents (see Rachael Corrie) haven't told them. They know little of history and traditional American values/culture. They only parrot what they've been told. Read what the moonbats write on this blog (if you can decipher it). It sounds straight from Democrat Party, NEA/WEA, ACLU or trade union publications.

Goldy has an audience, and with proper handling, could get elected to the Seattle Silly Council. From there it's a relatively small step to the State Legislature and perhaps Washington DC. Look who presently represents this state; Murray, Cantwell, Gregoire, McDermott, Inslee. Goldy fits right in with that bunch. Think about it!

51. Hey 'My Left Foot,"
By and large the "Catholic priests giving new meaning to the sacrament with pre-teen children" you speak of are basically the product of liberal infiltration of the Church. For the most part they are the equivalent of saboteurs within an army regiment whose only purpose is to cause wreckage from within. I saw this coming since the age of about seven, unfortunately the average American either did not see the infiltration for what it was or were collaborators from the outset. Part and parcel of the collaborators has been the leadership of the USCCB, in fact I would say that the only institutions that hold a candle to them when it comes to contemptibility is the Democrat Party and the ACLU.

However, I don't think it's fair to blame public education - the coach was a member of the community with knowledge of the subject matter (probably had been a cheerleader at the collegiate level) and was brought in to teach her particular expertise.

That's just the flexibility and meritocracy that would improve public education.
