Today's Seattle Times: "2004 election controversy still hounds Gregoire"
A year ago this week, as the Democrat-controlled Legislature prepared to certify Christine Gregoire as Washington's new governor, a throng of angry Republicans gathered on the Capitol lawn and chanted "revote! revote!"That there is still a controversy should be no surprise. Of the two candidates for Washington governor in 2004 whose vote totals were within the margin of illegal votes as determined by a trial judge, Mrs. Gregoire is the candidate whom most surveyed state residents believe received the smaller number of legal votes.
And the widespread perception that the election did not produce a legitimate victor is well founded. Sadly, for all the time, money and attention that was lavished on the Wenatchee trial, evidence is still mounting of even more illegal votes that King County managed to conceal from the court --
For example, a year ago today I went through a revised voter file that King County had released the day before. I reported that the list contained 557 Magical Mystery People whose provisional ballots were counted even though they weren't registered to vote on election day. Believe it or not, it took King County Elections until the week before this Christmas to respond to my public records requests in sufficient detail to explain the Mystery Voters. Some of these were legal voters whose registrations had been canceled in error or not recorded on time (and that's exactly what provisional ballots are there to protect against). There were also hundreds of voters who were improperly included on the voter list because their votes were counted even though they were not eligible to vote. This includes the uncured "fatal pends" that I wrote about earlier (people who didn't sign their registration forms and were not legally eligible to vote) but many more than I had realized earlier (here's one I found this week), as well as other categories of votes that should not have been counted.
We can't do much about the fact that we're stuck with Mrs. Gregoire for the next 3 years. But we can still press for repairs to the underlying systemic problems that our elections officials still refuse to own up to, let alone explain how they will correct them. More later.

Posted by: My Left Foot on January 8, 2006 03:28 PMWhen people lose confidence in the process of government they live under, that government will eventually fall. History teaches us this. If indeed "no one cares", and if what they don't care about is the validity of their government and the legitimacy of those who head it, then that speaks more about either the decadence of the populace or its loss of faith in the system of governance. In either case, any other issues assume lesser import.

What is she doing recieving high marks from Big Business?

But most people have ethical standards. They know it's wrong to take money from one class of people and cite any one of a litany of racist reasons to give it to another class. And most people know that catering to the demands of unions does not ultimately advance the US. We may have a lot of high paid union workers, but if that lowers our ability to educate our children and compete in the global market, will it help us in the long run?
Democrats are the party of the present. They will say whatever you want to hear to get in to office, and then they will go about advancing their collectivist policies. Gregoire is a perfect example.

As Stefan says, it appears that this lawsuit is showing more merit all of the time, however there was only one shot and the Repubs lost.
All of the polls that I have seen and have been pubicized show that a majority of voters believe that Rossi really won the election, they have been consistent, even the ones since June - in spite of the court ruling, which is another topic.
Dino was not an office holder, so why should he have come out one way or the other on I-912 ? The courts don't always get it right and most people understand that. So, go ahead and live in your dream world, but the reality is contrary to what you or other leftist clowns say.

Posted by: Mike P on January 8, 2006 07:40 PMNo one believes that Gregoire won the Governors race...not even the most vocal from the left! That's why they are so vocal!....They need to try to quiet the truth. The truth is posted here - at Sound Politics...
Gregoire was able to do so much damage in her first year because the people were still in a state of shock....They were stunned...Gregoire and her leftist legislators quickly created election loopholes for fraud and gas taxes and oppressive laws! My God! It was a whirlwind of activity! Those who actually voted for her were left with their mouths open..utterly betrayed!
Shock often turns to anger....Anger turns to action... And I believe we will see more action this year from the people.....From all sides of the fence...

I have yet to hear of a poll-- let alone multiple polls-- that states that. What polls are you talking about say that the bulk of the state thinks Dino is a "Sore Loserman"? If you want to start throwing around that load of Barbara Streisand, back up your statements with evidence.
Put up or shut up... name them
Posted by: Mike H on January 8, 2006 07:53 PMOh, and what ever happened to the 1,000 middle managers Gregoire pledged to eliminate.....you know, the ones she merely "RENAMED" some different title or promoted to higher level managers???
The MSM was so excited and gave the Queen all kinds of positive ink when she announced this pledge. Yet NO ONE has followed up to get an accounting to see if she kept that pledge.
I'll bet she counts all RETIREES, TRANSFERS etc. in the ULTIMATE SHELL-GAME. Under Gregoire, the State has actually ADDED more employees in 2005.
With Gregoire, NOTHING ever adds up! Not votes, not dollars, not employees....NOTHING!
And keep those nicknames coming.

Winston,
We will be looking for ya at Dino's Governor acceptance speech in 2008. Count on him being at that important event. 4 years of Queen Christine's over regulation and over taxation will be enough even for most democrats.
Once again, you make assertions without providing any evidence to back them up. What polls are you referring to? As already noted, the polls reported to date all indicate that the majority of Washington voters believe Rossi actually won the Governor's race in 2004.
And again, you accuse Republicans of trying to "disenfranchise" voters. One can only "disenfranchise" someone who is eligible to vote. What evidence can you produce of anyone attempting to interfere with voting by legitimate voters? I've asked you to back up this charge previously, but you continue to make the claim without offering the evidence. If you can't prove it, don't say it.

"During the Apple Cup game at Husky Stadium, the crowd BOOED when Gregoire's face showed up on the giant scoreboard."
Oh my, how come word didn't get out sooner about THAT one??? Very interesting.
"The state Democrat Party paid $18,000 for a series of focus groups aimed partly at gauging people's impressions of the governor. No one from the governor's office or state party will say what those focus groups revealed."
HAH! We all know that if it had been positive, they would gladly reveal the good news. As such, there obviously isn't any.
The people know. They know Dino won. They can't be fooled.

Is that a Nazi tantrum or something?
Go away you simple little twit!..And do it quickly. You can't handle the truth...
Posted by: Deborah on January 8, 2006 10:47 PMTo confuse language from the book of Daniel with German is about as bad as it gets! ACK!
"Frightened by the apparition, the king ordered his astrologers to explain the inscription; but they were unable to read it. Daniel was then summoned to the royal palace; and the king promised him costly presents if he would decipher the inscription. Daniel read it "Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin" and explained it to mean that God had "numbered" the kingdom of Belshazzar and brought it to an end; that the king had been weighed and found wanting; and that his kingdom was divided and given to the Medes and Persians (Dan. v. 1-28)."
Perhaps Winston is correct! The Liberal Democrats *Kingdom* shall be brought to an end....
You know, you throw that Nazi word around pretty loosely around here. I guess that is to be expected because you favor the Nazi like tactics of your beloved (God, I am going to barf) President. Here is some “proof for you:
“Of course people don’t want war. But after all. it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.”
Any guess as to who said this? Well, it was Hermann Goring at the Nuremberg Trials. This is the Nazi way. This is what we are experiencing right now. So when you scream Nazi it is not me that you should be pointing at, but, rather yourself and your party. There is no threat of our being run over by thugs and terrorists. Sure, punishment needed to doled out whent the towers came down. Sure, Saddam was not a nice man, but he was no threat to America. Our leaders used the Goring strategy to the letter. The problem is that with a free press and free thought the people eventually line up and say no more. It happened in Viet Nam, it is happening now, (thankfully without the rancor against the military).
Now, perhaps you can rufute the above statement by the infamous killer with some fancy two-step, but you won’t change the minds of the American people. WE HAVE SEEN ENOUGH of the this morally and ethically lacking administration. It is almost over for you. Next year the house will again be under the control of Democrats and the Senate will follow in 2007, with White House in 2008. A nice orderly changing of the guard. Oh, and lastly, Washington will still be a blue state.
Posted by: My Left Foot on January 8, 2006 11:49 PMYou may perceive the current Republican administration as *potential* oppressors of civil rights...given that they want to listen in on terrorist telephone conversations, etc...
But how can you be so blind to the *actual* oppression we the people are receiving from the Liberal Democrats?
*It's the Democrats who are constantly bullshitting the people (you know..for the children?) and taking our tax dollars for their pockets and special interests.
*It is the Democrats who are inventing *Nanny* laws that so oppressively and expensively effect our daily lives.
*It is the Democrats who are stealing our right to vote by insuring there are no audit measures and safeguards in place to secure the system.
*It is the Democrats who are eroding our national security and economy by insisting that illegal aliens be allowed to walk across our borders to clean our toilets.
*It is the Democrats who are taking one of our nations most sacred rights to own property.
*It is the Democrats who are fighting for the right to remove parental rights.
*It is the Democrats who are trying to remove Christmas and all things Christian.
*It is the Democrats who are forcing us to accept and embrace abhorrent sexual behavior.
*It is the Democrats who push for early release of murderer's, drug dealers and sexual predators....
This is happening now in our country! It's not just a fear..it's a reality. What you suspect of the Republicans is just a fear..that has not come to fruition...Yet - the Democrats are well into full scale oppression! How can you support such a Nazi regime?
Sure - the Republican's have the potential for oppression - but have not abused it..We are all worried that these surveillance laws will be used and abused by liberal Democrats if they ever get back into the Whitehouse...This is a huge concern.
Posted by: Deborah on January 9, 2006 12:19 AMI am concerned anytime I hear the religious right making noise, trying to legislate morality. This country was founded on freedom of religion, not freedom to practice Christianity. I am a Jew. I am offended by the Rightwingnuts who wish ram their beliefs down my throat. I am not afraid of differing views. I am afraid of one side becoming all powerful and refusing to give up power, changing the rules to retain power (loss of the filibuster), and attempting to silence all who disagree. I am afraid of individuals who are out of control with power, lust and money (Tom DeLay, Abramoff and Frist for example). Your party is full of those who would do anything to retain power for powers sake. How much abuse and corruption are you willing to stomach?
I could go about the slow response to hurricane Katrina (I was there and I saw it), the outing of a CIA officer to get even with her husband (there was a time in this country when that action would rightfully caused you to be shot), Haliburton and Cheney (by the way, where is our fine vice-president these days?) it all adds up to power gone mad. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!
Everytime the administration is asked to answer by what you call the MSM we hear terrorists, safety and patriotism, but we never get an answer. Yours is the party of loud voices speaking carefully worded sound bites accompanied by pictures. If it looks good and sounds good, well then, it must be good, right? WRONG.
The Republican party has no interest in a two party system. The interest is to remain in power and to tell me what is good for me. Whether I like it or need or not. Gas costs a fortune, the false housing bubble is bursting, interest rates on credit cards are at an all time high, the Senate insured the profitability of banks over the financial well being of individuals who have lost jobs or can't pay their bills for reasons not their fault. But all you can see, through rose colored glasses, is that this is America, land of milk and honey. But truth is not what you see. There are thousands out of work. The auto industy and the airlines are in big, big trouble. I am not sure if any of us understand just how important these two industries are to our economy.
This is what I see. I see a government that is increasingly refusing to serve the public that it supposedly represents. The change is coming. It comes every 20 years or so. This time though, the mess is greater than ever before. It may take a while to fix what the RepublicanRightWingNuts have destroyed. Where is the Christian right when we have children going to sleep in this country with empty stomachs and no heat? Where is the Christianity in shunning gays? Where is the Christianity in forgiving debts, when the inability to pay them was lost through no fault of their own? Where is the Christianity in accepting the differences in others, be they based on religion, color, sex or political belief? It does not exist anymore in this country. You want me to become part of your way, to change me into a silent cog in the big wheel.
The next step is that we are killing each other in the name of God. How Christian is that?
So you ask me how I can support the Democratic party. I ask you how can I not? This is a two party system, by law, and I find the party in control to be without moral character or compunction. What should I do? Just accept my fate? Not going to happen, this is America where I can still work and speak against those that would quell my voice and my pen. Unless of course the NSA is reading my words and I end up on a list of dissident Jewish trouble makers.

The Republican party is not responsible for electing Democrats. Perhaps is that party moved toward the center instead of left of Lennin, then maybe EX-DEMOCRATS (of 40 years) like myself and Zel Miller wouldn't be so shamed of them we quit that party.
Never in our history has there ever been an opposition party in time of war that would stoop so low as to reveal our intelligence gathering techinques to our enemies for political gain. One could only imagine the ourcome of WWII had the Republicans divulged that we had broken German and Japanese military codes. Yet this is EXACTLY what Democrat have done for Al Qaeda by revelaing our wiretapping. And they are unabashed about it. they openly flaunt this. We have to spend billions for our intelligene on our enemies, but thanks to the DNC, Bin laden and AQ only need spend $1.50 for the New York Times. And if they have a library card they get it for free. You bet Republicans are outraged about security. I saw 3,000 Americans murdered on 9/11. Perhaps to you it was so long ago your tiny attention span has forgotten about them and is more concerned with wha kind of body piercing or tatoo you are getting this week or what sexual act your boyfriend will perform on you for your birthday.
Now to adress your rehashed DNC talking points. However, unlike YOU, I will be able to back up my statement with FACTS and cite sources. I thought the liberals were supposed to be so intellectually superior, and yet you cannot even provide a single source for your babble.
More Americans own homes now than at any time in our history (1). Interest rates are at historic lows.(2) If you are so foolish financially that you are abusing credit cards, that isn't anyone's fault but your own. Perhaps one less night out wsting your money with such essentials as 'drinking liberally' and learn the difference between necessity and want.
Unemployement is below 4.9%(3). There is no crisis in unemployment. You are simply lying and you could not show a single source to your lies because none exist except faux sources at daily kos or the equine anal blog.
Any trouble the auto industry has is more related to crappy product and overprived labor from union workers demanding more than what the global economy will pay. From my personal experience, I cann tell you about my father's brand new Chevy Suburban he purchased in the early 1980's that died at 12K miles because one of the undereducated union boys put the transmission gasket in backwards. The supervisr of that worker probably couldn't correct him because of the union.
So when you complain to me about overpaid lazy out of work union boys fro the UAW, I don't have ANY sympathy. No person whose only educational acheivement is a GED or even less than that should never make more than minimum wage and they should be lucky for that.
This is what I see. I see a government that is increasingly refusing to serve the public that it supposedly represents.
Translation: My favorite welfare programs are being cut.
Solution: teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
The change is coming. It comes every 20 years or so. This time though, the mess is greater than ever before. It may take a while to fix what the RepublicanRightWingNuts have destroyed.
The only mess we have is that caused by Bill Clinton failing to defend America and giving away our nuclear secrets to te chinese in exchange for campaing contributions (4). The 8 years of the Clinton presidency were disasterous for American security. We saw the Khobar Towers blown up and US servicemen killed. The 1993 World Trade Center bombed. Our African Embassies were blown up and the USS Cole nearly sunk. Bill Clinton did nothing to defend the US other than blow up a milk factory in Sudan.
As for Christians behaving the opposite of their beleifs, buddy you will have to get in line behind me when lodging those charges. I think you barely scratched the surface. But, contrary to popular belief, the Republican party does not equal fundamentalist Christians.
So you ask me how I can support the Democratic party. I ask you how can I not? This is a two party system, by law, and I find the party in control to be without moral character or compunction. What should I do? Just accept my fate?
The Democrat party of Truman and JFK is dead.It took me 40 years to realize this. It was killed in the 1960's and the infection has festered so long that even FDR wouldn't recognize his party now.
What can you do? If you really want an opposition party then you should change the Democrat party from within. Boot out the Howard Deans that embarass your party and prove once again that they aren't serious about national security. Stop electing Democrats like Barbara Lee of Berkely that vote against going into Afghanistan after clearly we had been atacked on 911. Give the boot to people like Parry Murray who think Bin Laden was a good philantropist.
If you think that an opposition party has no responsibility for protecting national security just because they are not the majority, you are wrong. The minority always has some members on sensitive committees, such as Nancy Pelosi on the Senate Intelligence committee. She chose to reveal our NSA intelligence sources to Al Qaeda in hopes her politcal prospects will improve. Where is the outrage over this being leaked to AQ?
The truth is, that when one party damages national security, they not only hurt the opposition, they endanger themselves and their own constituency. The fundamental problem with the modern day Democrat party is that they do not even consider this when they do such reckless things as reveal that we monitor calls between known Al Qaeda agents and destinations inside the US.
You should start paying attention to world developments. Did you know that China now has a AEGIS cruiser equal to our own? Now please tell me that all that technology Clinton let China have, had no impact on our national security.
So there you go. You have an action plan. Are you up to the task to take on the Demagogues within your own party?

Actually YES.
Why won't the Democrat allow the Barret report to be released in full unredacted form?
Could it be because it chronicles the abuse of the IRS by the Clinton Administration with Craig Livingstone as the henchman to suppress opposition with political opponents finding themselves being audited by the IRS?

Posted by: pbj on January 9, 2006 02:44 AMAnd nobody ever bought yours.
By they way, we're still waiting for you to name the multiple polls you site that say the bulk of the state thinks Rossi acted like a "Sore Loserman".
Posted by: Mike H on January 9, 2006 05:20 AMDino Rossi is a private citizen. You have no right to demand that he reveal his position on a political issue for public view. He is under no more obligation to disclose his position on a political issue than you are. Until Rossi either holds an elective office or becomes a declared candidate for such an office, he is entitled to keep his views private. That you would take such non-disclosure as an indicator of a shortcoming in leadership is shallow, illogical, and disingenuous, and it is time for you to take a big dose of STFU already.
Posted by: Interested Observer on January 9, 2006 05:54 AMHey Mike H good to see you! I can't believe the moonbats that come to this site!
It would be nice to see Dino back in the works! It is too bad really about the corruption in King County!!!
They both suck in shockingly similar ways and show that no matter what politicians say to the public, they act mostly for themselves. For my money, you can just dump all the incumbents regardless of party affiliation. It's time to clean house. Dump the incumbents!
Posted by: Swifter on January 9, 2006 07:18 AMGiven your rant justify the DEMOCRAT push to track when and where you drive in order to apply taxes to your travels.
Tell me how that compares to the administration tracking the conversations between known terrorists and persons in the US. Because that is what the NSA program is. The MSM mischaracterizes (lies) about the program when it says "domestic" surveillance.
Which is more intrusive on civil liberties, government knowing your daily travels, or government tracking known terrorist and the people they contact.
Get a grip, Get the facts.
Seriously, though, I love quoting the Bible and being told by Conservatives that it's a "Nazi Rant". I'm glad Stefan corrected you. You guys must be a constant source of embarrassment for him.
I think a little more "Bible Readin'" and a little less "Bible Totin'" is in order for this woefully inadequate crew of Righty Snopes'!
By the way, the name, "Snopes", is a literary reference to a certain type of American, not a participant in the Oct. beer hall putsch.
Posted by: Winston Smith on January 9, 2006 08:13 AMYou did notice Deborah owned up to her goof didn't you?
Which is more than I can say for all the factual errors, misstatements and lies you, left foot and unkl witz drop around here on a regular basis.
Posted by: JCM on January 9, 2006 08:27 AMUntil then I'll be a proud republican and post this important commandment proudly, as well as worship how and where I want despite your sides religious attacks!
Your battle of religion is lost before it starts!

Why are they talking points? Because the Democrats know that at this point, the only way they can get any power is to paint a very grim picture and then pray that some of the doom and gloom happens. They like to paint with a broad brush to increase the chances of one out the many things My Left Foot lists will come true. And when it does, they've got the Lockstep Media that will loudly proclaim A-HA, you see, it was true that intrests rates were too low, and it's all Bush's fault, yada, yada, yada.
Too bad for MLF and the other Moonbats here. They've been living in the echo chamber for so long they don't realize that the gig is up. Americans don't buy the doom and gloom and Bush Caused Everything argument any more.
Little Left Foot Boy who cries wolf, go back home and sulk, you've been had.
Posted by: Jeff B, on January 9, 2006 09:13 AMOh, is she releasing her public schedule yet?
Posted by: South County on January 9, 2006 10:01 AMOne of the many problems you KLOWNS are infested with is the ability to rationalize your "Public Service" positions. I think you truly believe the world would end if half of you were forced into the private sector. More & more government workers see the rampant incompetence and "empire-building" going on at the expense of hard-working people and those willing to risk capital.
The LEFTIST PINHEADED KLOWNS have successfully twisted things backa$$wards. Shameless!
If you really feel like you need to rebut them, just ask yourself: If you saw this guy at Pike Place Market saying the same thing, would you feel the need to argue with him? Or would you rather just let the raving lunatics be raving lunatics?
We don't need people on our side calling people names and getting upset. There's no reason to be upset when you are negotiating from the more powerful position.
Posted by: Jonathan Gardner on January 9, 2006 10:13 AM1)It is not domestic spying when you gather intelligence on your enemy and his embedded cells in our country. What the Clinton administration did with Craig Livingstone and his abuse of the IRS to attack politcal foes was truly illegal. Democrats know this and are blocking the full disclosure of the Barrett report. To try to equate the two shows an incredibly willful ignorance.
2) "While it is true that more Americans own homes, the percentage of Americans owning homes has increased in a much less significant number."
What kind of gibberish is this? Yes the rate of increase may have slowed but the truth is that more people own their home now than did under Clinton. So much for Democrats wanting to work for the common man.
3) "The creative financing being used to purchase these homes is about to create a problem when the balloon payment and ARM's go into effect. Many folks will lose their homes and the banks are going to be left holding the bag. This will further depress the market and increase the problem."
Now how is this the fault of any Republican any more so than any person who abused their credit and went bankrupt under Clinton was his fault?
4) " As for credit card debt, personally I have less than $500 debt on one credit card. This country lives on credit. We fail to teach our young, and ourselves, to live within our means."
Well good for you. Perhaps our young would learn responsibility if we actualy taught them not to expect something for nothing? The Democrat induced victim culture and culture of expecting everything to be handed to them has probably contributed to the situation.
5) " As for the UNION workers being the downfall of the auto industry, my A$$. The contracts were entered into willingly by BOTH sides. "
No those contracts were not entered into willingly. They were coerced by union thugs who threatened to go on strike and blocked the competition from other non-union workers.
"Without unions, this country does not rise economically, without unions greedy corporations (too numerous to list) will cut wages and benefits in order to boost profits and enrich themselves. I give you Alaska Airlines and Menzies(sp?) as the latest example."
Nothing could be further from the truth. Union workes make up only about 15% of all workers. And if everything we bought was from union workers, we couldn't afford to buy it. And the quality is crap. As an example look at the crap coming out of GM union shops.
If everyone in the country was a union worker it would be even worse. We couldn't sell any products because of cheaper foreign competition. Unions price us out of the market.
Foreign countries have been stepping up to the mark for years by graduating more enigneers and scientists than the US. Some American high school dropout who thinks he can make $60K on the UAW assembly line when a PHD in India makes $40K is simply living in a fantasy land.
You really need to study economics. When you price yourself out of the market and quality is crap because the workers can't read or write, you end up with the enormous trade deficit we currently have today.
Liberals do people no good by trying to artificially inflate wages through the unions and convince people they don't have to work as hard as their foreign counterparts. The union goods cannot be competitive with foreign non-union goods. Thus the trade deficit.
Wal-Mart style wages are appropriate for people whose skills are at the Wal-Mart level. Even union members shop at Wal-Mart. Those who have the skills the market demands will not be wanting for benefits or wages as their skill level will command the superior compensation.
Finally, I have yet to see you cite a single source to back up any of your allegations.
Posted by: pbj on January 9, 2006 10:53 AMNo one here hates you. You are one of our favorite examples of the hate America cult.
Thanks for repeating more of the same indefensible brain-dead George Soros garbage.
While it is very unlikely to happen, if you ever actually make a point that is rationally
backed with coherent evidence, it will be amusing, but given your track record, a blunder.
Social responsibility is a concept far beyond your comprehensive ability. Your lack of compassion, concern and caring is exceed only by the fact that you are an ignoranus. An ignoranus is someone like you who is both stupid and an a$$hole. I don't hate anyone here either. I just think you all drink too much of Stefan's kool-aid. As for unions, well before they came along child labor, 60+ hour plus work weeks, no workers compensation (you know, the old tough luck pay for your own on the job injuries because you were stupid enought to get hurt plan), no medical, vacation or retirement benefits were the order of the day. Any moron that thinks employers just grandly gave these things out without question or argument has really not a clue how things worked in the 1920's and 30's.
I love this country. Patriotism comes right after family with me and before God. You don't know anything about me on that level.
As for coherent "evidence", anything that either of us cites, can be refuted by the other. This blog is full of opinion and sorely lacking in fact. I just choose common sense over selfishness, greed and power.
My source is history, I am not going to do your research for you. Read. It can be an enlightening experience. You might start with George Carlin's "When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops".
I guess we will find out later this year. We will see if Republicans hang on to Congress. If not, I expect Stefan to uncover mass ballot stuffing and faulty computer counts. Because, obviously there is only on RightWingNut way. All other thought must be by morons and fools.
Can I also say, Go Seahawks!!
Posted by: My Left Foot on January 9, 2006 12:10 PMAs I recall Ford reduced the work week to five days in order to sell more cars. Giving the employees a better life helped Ford.
You also talk about unions use back in the 20s and 30s. How about making your points a bit more current - try this century. Bring up how employees of our state government will be fired because of the union. People who are just going about their job and now will be out of work because of the union. They can of course buy their job back by donating to the union on a paycheck basis. I think the mafia called that a protection racket.
Posted by: fred on January 9, 2006 12:23 PMNowadays unions have lost that vision. Now they abuse honest workers who just happen to want to exercise their free will and not be in a union, by threatening their livelihood if they don't toe the union line. They likely cost more jobs than they save. Helping ordinary employees has taken a back seat to being an organ for the 'Rat party.
One summer when I was vacationing at the Jersey shore, that world-famous hangout for the rich and famous, I made friends with a guy who had his family there on vacation at the beach, who was a union steward at an auto parts manufacturing plant. His brag was how they "negotiated" four-hour crapper breaks for their members at the one plant. A couple of years later that plant shutdown and production was moved to Mexico, ostensibly because of "high costs" for producing the materials here. So the workers now have longer than four hour head breaks, because they are going to the crapper at home after standing in the unemployment line. A lot of good their four hour head breaks do them with no job.
Now, how much of that plant's shutting down was a result of greed by the union, and how much was greed on the part of the company? I'd float a guess that neither are innocent on that count.
Posted by: Interested Observer on January 9, 2006 12:44 PMNice job hoof.
Posted by: Amused by liberals on January 9, 2006 03:39 PMI am running out of your Kool-aid. Can you get me some more before Left hoof overcomes me with his profoundly revealing historical insight and rapier-like wit?
Otherwise I might drift out of the haze of your spell and into liberalism where the real truth and light of compassion, concern and caring shines from the likes of Teddy (the swimmer) Kennedy, Howlin’ Howie (we can never win) Dean, and Fancy Nancy (deer in the headlights) Pelosi.
I’m askin ya here Stefan . . . please help me . . . please help me!
I consider his (or her as it were) contributions testament to the consistent and continuing emptiness of the agenda of the liberal left.
Thanks Left foot . . . good job.
"As for coherent "evidence", anything that either of us cites, can be refuted by the other. This blog is full of opinion and sorely lacking in fact. I just choose common sense over selfishness, greed and power."
This is so typical of the liberal mindset - "There is no real fact, no right , no wrong". Well BS! There is fact. People can debate and cite verifiable facts.
What you have done is chosen emotional, feel-good rhetoric over solid factual evidence.
Posted by: pbj on January 10, 2006 12:06 PMPrecisely. I would enjoy a lively debate of issues and ideas with people from the left like Winston, Unkl Witz, Dug nut, Left foot and others but it is impossible. No common ground can be found because none of them will deal with facts. Every one of these people openly exhibits an ideological aversion to coherent evidence and lines of reasoning, and not one of them ever consistently debates anything.
The reason for this is quite simple. All any of them have is tactics to defend emotional nonsense based on half baked presumptions. Talking points based on empty lies, innuendo, and distortions, and tactics of changes of subject and baseless personal insinuations. All of them parade pseudo-historical facts, but not one of them EVER demonstrates any substantive knowledge of history, and none of them ever demonstrates ANY ability to reason rationally. Their sloppy and careless grammar and spelling accompanies shoddy and lackadaisical thinking.
Their only purpose in coming here is to be a fleck in our eye, and mostly it doesn’t work. They pretend supremacy founded on silly emotionalism and shallowness, and try to vex and insult those who don’t. They make believe to champion democracy and yet resist any suggestion (despite overwhelming evidence that our own system of procedural democracy is in a crisis) of the truth. More of them could learn something from Bev Harris but then they would be forced to admit that the enemy of their blind faith has a point.
Since recognition of and discussion of the facts is contemptible to them, the only basis for discussion at the liberal websites like Horsesass.com is hate and vitriolic spew. I enjoy their regular visits to Sound Politics because they prove that liberalism is a mental disease that will fail. Winston, Unkl Witz, Dug nut and others like them come and go (often changing their names), and all they ever leave behind is a repetition of the same old tired empty lines repeated by Teddy Kennedy and Michael Moore.
They are amusing . . . but tedious.
