Ron Sims' mother didn't vote for him

Perhaps the saddest episode of the November 2005 King County Executive race was when Sims operatives trotted out David Irons' ailing elderly mother to declare that she wasn't going to vote for her own son. As it turns out, Ron Sims' mother didn't vote for her own son either. Sims' mother, Lydia Sims, is registered to vote at Ron Sims' residence, but records show that she did not cast a ballot in either September or November 2005 when her son was running for re-election. Mrs. Sims is 85 years old, so I would assume that she didn't cast a ballot for her son solely because of failing health, which frankly is the same conclusion I reached about Mrs. Irons after listening to her on the radio. I wish both Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Irons good health and a long life.

It also appears that we have several other politicians who didn't win the votes of their own children --

As mentioned in an earlier post, King County Councilwoman Julia Patterson's son Alexander did not vote in November 2005 when his mother was running for re-election.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' son Jake did not vote in November 2005 when his dad was running for re-election.

Seattle City Councilman Richard Conlin's son Tony Conlin-Allen did not vote in November 2005 when his dad was running for re-election.

And Sam Reed's son David did not vote in either November 2000 or November 2004 when his dad ran for Secretary of State.

I can understand if ailing elderly people don't always vote, but grown children who don't vote for their own parents? Maybe they know something the rest of us don't.

1. I used to work with Tony Conlin-Allen, so it's not surprising--he moved to Puyallup and hence is not eligible to vote for his dad anymore. It's interesting that he is showing up still in KC, though.

2. Stef,

Just my opinion. I'd leave peoples mothers out of discussion on Sound Politics. Not sure why it matters, but just a hunch, bad idea to talk about a mans mother.

3. Just how many people ARE registered to vote from Ron Sim's house that don't actually live there anyway? The numbers seem to be really adding up!

That became an issue because various lefties made an issue of David Iron's mother. You were alive at that time, correct?

Or was your point that it wasn't proper to respond in a like manner? Unilateral disarmament?

5. Not to worry. Nickels son is registered under 6 other names. The Democratic Party standard amount.

6. I seem to recall it was David Irons mother who made and issue out of who she was voting or not voting for. You were alive at that time weren't you?

7. Unkl...revisionist history at its finest! Goldly and his boy at Ronnies campaign never spoke about the subject either...right? The fact that some guys mom is "nuttier than squirrel tirds" and chose to support Ronnie should be of little solice. But then again what do you expect from someone who thinks human beings live in 6" square boxes?

8. Unkl revisionist - another gem. Do you also think there is nothing wrong with the current voter data base also ? BTW - South County already said what you said about Once At City - and your point was ?

9. Maybe we should all register at Ron “Tax to the Max” Sims house...…then we could get an even better bulk mail rate when they are mailed back!!!

10. South County,

Please do not get it twisted. I understand Stefans beef on the re-release of the Davis Irons issue. But that is between Ron Simms hacks and David Irons hacks. Both have vested interest in taking each other out.

I suggusted to Stefan my humble opinion that it is not kind, inconsiderate and ultimately a *itch-move to try to bring someones mother into this discussion. It was a *itch-move when the Simms hack did it to Irons.

That being said, I am not a *itch. I appreicate Stefan for creating this forum. Contributors can be forgiven (by me in my opinion) for sounding stupid (even me). I just sugguested Stefan as the moderator would hold his contributions up to a higher standard of what is ultimately important and germane to the King County voting debacle.

Respectfully,
once At City
