Today's P-I reports "Sims attacks critic of office move"
Turning up the heat in his simmering dispute with the King County Council, County Executive Ron Sims has written the council to register his "extreme displeasure" with what he calls "unsupportable ... untrue ... (and) unacceptable" statements by a council staff analyst challenging Sims' proposal to move his office into a new public building downtown.Sims is as transparent as the plate glass windows in the penthouse view office he covets. When he shifts the discussion and starts lashing out and attacking a critic's character instead of addressing the facts, it's tantamount to an admission that his critic is correct. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at March 09, 2006 08:23 AM | Email This"That analyst, David Layton, has not only provided false information to the (council's capital budget) committee, but has also directly impugned my integrity ... in the process," Sims wrote in his letter to the council, dated Tuesday.
He has "all but called me a liar," Sims wrote.
You mean like this:
RON SIMS MUGABE WATCH
“On a lighter note, it occurs to us that both Zimbabwe's "President for Life" Robert Mugabe and King County's "Executive for Life" (unless he gets elected governor) Ron Sims prop up their failing regimes by using the charms of female dancers.”

Or this:
“King County Executive Ron Sims, the Robert Mugabe of Washington politics, has concluded that he might face difficulty getting himself re-elected next year. Lacking any skills that are useful to anybody in the private sector, Governor-pretender Christine Gregoire has promised Sims a sinecure in her administration, should she manage to steal this election. Look for more magical mystery ballots to miraculously materialize in King County just in time to ensure a happy Christmas for Ron Sims and all of his Kleptocratic Party cronies.”

Or this:
“But County Prosecutor Norman Maleng will not be joining Sims to applaud the fraudulent mail box voters, nor will he comply with Sims' Mugabe-style request to abuse the criminal justice system for political retribution”

Posted by: JDB on March 9, 2006 10:10 AMSeriously, I'd love to see the financial case where a $100 million dollar building is cheaper than leasing space. Notice how the article glosses over that one.
Posted by: Steve_dog on March 9, 2006 10:13 AMRondon Sims King hasn't organized militias to go and kill those he doesn't like, unlike Mugabe. But several other things tend to line up rather nicely... At least I only have to deal with Sideshow Bob up here in Snohomish County...
Posted by: Edmonds Dan on March 9, 2006 10:20 AMYou fail to recognize (or acknowledge) that there are different expectations. This is a political blog, where political rhetoric is the sine qua non. Sims is acting in the capacity of his elected office, which carries with it a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the county, as supported by objective facts. Your attempt to make the two equivalent is itself a classic example of rhetorical argument.

Posted by: Misty on March 9, 2006 10:50 AMNow Ron that is Lying! You do not have any integrity to impugn!
Having worked with Mr. Layton on a different KC project he was a first class act so I think he was just trying to shoot straight with the facts.
If Ron does get his way will they put an adult sized diaper changing table in the executive washroom? It does not look like he has grown up.
I agree with Patrick's sentiments. You seem to want to hold Stefan to the same standard as Ron Sims. Let me ask you - for whom did you vote for County Executive in the most recent election - Ron Sims or Stefan Sharkansky?
I assume you voted for Ron Sims. Isn't that your admission that Ron Sims should be held to a MUCH HIGHER standard?
If you think Stefan's actions should be held to the same standard as the County Executive, would you be willing to promote Stefan for local office and help campaign for him?

Posted by: Kenny on March 9, 2006 12:04 PMOh, umm, sorry, different words, same meaning.
Posted by: duhh on March 9, 2006 03:37 PMI say, I say, there's a whole lotta impugnin' goin' on out dere.
Ron Sims talking "integrity"? That there's funny, I don't care who you are. That there is funny.
Posted by: harpoontang on March 9, 2006 05:15 PMHe has "all but called Layton a liar".
Posted by: SouthernRoots on March 9, 2006 06:43 PMHe thinks his executive position affords him the luxury of a penthouse suite?? This man is deep into some sick fantasy!
Yo Sims! You want to be an elected servant? Be one in a freaking basement somewhere! Save the King County admin building for the fraudulent homeless voters to use as their residence when they register to vote..
Posted by: Deborah on March 9, 2006 06:50 PMCome on, guys! Give us YOUR metaphors for Ron "Steaming Loaf" Sims! This is fun!
Posted by: ERNurse on March 9, 2006 09:31 PMThe only issue left is where his limo and driver can park.
Posted by: GS on March 10, 2006 12:31 AMI voted for neither.
However, I call out a hypocrit when I see it.
Mr. Sharansky and Executive Simms deserve each other.
And, heck, this may be the one time that Mr. Sharansky has told the truth, after all:
"When he [Mr. Sharansky and his board] shifts the discussion and starts lashing out and attacking a critic's character instead of addressing the facts, it's tantamount to an admission that his critic is correct.
Posted by: JDB on March 10, 2006 02:56 PMYou say you didn't vote for Ron, and that Ron and Stefan deserve each other.
Stefan writes a blog. Ron is the County Executive of the 12th largest county administration in the country (by area, population, or budget - I'm not certain).
If you're equating Stefan and Ron, there's an underlying implication that Ron is far too powerful for your taste. So what have you done to help remedy or rectify this situation?
You expend energy on this blog trying to bring Stefan down a few notches. Shouldn't you be doing the same for Ron? Shouldn't you be campaigning against, helping expose, and in general trying to bring down Ron Sims??
Otherwise, you've equated two people, but you're picking on the small guy and letting the big machine get away with everything including the kitchen sink!! And to think I was under the impression that Democrats and liberals were FOR the little guy!
(So, who did you steal that line from?)
