The Executive doth protest too much, methinks

Today's P-I reports "Sims attacks critic of office move"

Turning up the heat in his simmering dispute with the King County Council, County Executive Ron Sims has written the council to register his "extreme displeasure" with what he calls "unsupportable ... untrue ... (and) unacceptable" statements by a council staff analyst challenging Sims' proposal to move his office into a new public building downtown.

"That analyst, David Layton, has not only provided false information to the (council's capital budget) committee, but has also directly impugned my integrity ... in the process," Sims wrote in his letter to the council, dated Tuesday.

He has "all but called me a liar," Sims wrote.

Sims is as transparent as the plate glass windows in the penthouse view office he covets. When he shifts the discussion and starts lashing out and attacking a critic's character instead of addressing the facts, it's tantamount to an admission that his critic is correct.

3. Too bad this "hissy fit" didn't happen last year.
Even KingCo will become fed up with Sims lies & arrogance.
David KLOWNstein may even struggle being Ron's apologist & butt-boy on this one!!

4. Oh sorry Ron.....not a liar, as that isn't PC.....you're a person who doesn't tell the truth or withholds the truth so your false statments can't be found out.

5. Isn't kinda late in his political career for Mr Sims to start being concerned about his integrity? It appears that Ron wants that top floor office bad enough to go out on a limb with such ridiculous statements.

8. “When he shifts the discussion and starts lashing out and attacking a critic's character instead of addressing the facts, it's tantamount to an admission that his critic is correct.”

You mean like this:

RON SIMS MUGABE WATCH

“On a lighter note, it occurs to us that both Zimbabwe's "President for Life" Robert Mugabe and King County's "Executive for Life" (unless he gets elected governor) Ron Sims prop up their failing regimes by using the charms of female dancers.”

http://www.usefulwork.com/shark/archives/002158.html

Or this:

“King County Executive Ron Sims, the Robert Mugabe of Washington politics, has concluded that he might face difficulty getting himself re-elected next year. Lacking any skills that are useful to anybody in the private sector, Governor-pretender Christine Gregoire has promised Sims a sinecure in her administration, should she manage to steal this election. Look for more magical mystery ballots to miraculously materialize in King County just in time to ensure a happy Christmas for Ron Sims and all of his Kleptocratic Party cronies.”

http://www.soundpolitics.com/archives/003189.html

Or this:

“But County Prosecutor Norman Maleng will not be joining Sims to applaud the fraudulent mail box voters, nor will he comply with Sims' Mugabe-style request to abuse the criminal justice system for political retribution”

Or 95% of the comments here: FRANZ GREGOIRE, R.I.P. HTTP://WWW.SOUNDPOLITICS.COM/ARCHIVES/005686.HTML

And that is just spending a minute quickly searching your archives. Pot meet Kettle.

9. Of course King Ron needs on office on high to gave upon his subjects. Else how will he know the state of his realm?

Seriously, I'd love to see the financial case where a $100 million dollar building is cheaper than leasing space. Notice how the article glosses over that one.

10. JDB, I don't see the problem? We've got a guy who's essentially made it so that he can't be voted out (it's who counts the votes that matters), and has usurped big tracts of land in King County without compensation to the owners... Heck, he's even forced another county to accept his waste - witness "Brightwater"!

Rondon Sims King hasn't organized militias to go and kill those he doesn't like, unlike Mugabe. But several other things tend to line up rather nicely... At least I only have to deal with Sideshow Bob up here in Snohomish County...

11. JDB:

You fail to recognize (or acknowledge) that there are different expectations. This is a political blog, where political rhetoric is the sine qua non. Sims is acting in the capacity of his elected office, which carries with it a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the county, as supported by objective facts. Your attempt to make the two equivalent is itself a classic example of rhetorical argument.

Integrity?

13. Think of all the thousands of democrats who have unfairly impugned the integrity of President Bush. Have you ever once heard President Bush respond in such a childish way? No, and that's because he knows it's a bunch of bull. Sims, on the other hand.....

14. Sims said "impugned my integrity"

Now Ron that is Lying! You do not have any integrity to impugn!

Having worked with Mr. Layton on a different KC project he was a first class act so I think he was just trying to shoot straight with the facts.

If Ron does get his way will they put an adult sized diaper changing table in the executive washroom? It does not look like he has grown up.

15. JDB,

I agree with Patrick's sentiments. You seem to want to hold Stefan to the same standard as Ron Sims. Let me ask you - for whom did you vote for County Executive in the most recent election - Ron Sims or Stefan Sharkansky?

I assume you voted for Ron Sims. Isn't that your admission that Ron Sims should be held to a MUCH HIGHER standard?

If you think Stefan's actions should be held to the same standard as the County Executive, would you be willing to promote Stefan for local office and help campaign for him?

Oh, umm, sorry, different words, same meaning.

20. Sims said "impugned my integrity"

I say, I say, there's a whole lotta impugnin' goin' on out dere.

Ron Sims talking "integrity"? That there's funny, I don't care who you are. That there is funny.

21. sorry, Ron--we'll cut you slack--price? YOU host, sponsor & support 50 homeless Tent City Folk in YOUR backyard & house (or even your coveted office) for 1 year; THEN, I'll tip my hat and apologize; 'till then, it's just pizzin 'n moanin' from you--on MY dime, too!

23. Sims and integrity in the same sentence. Ha Ha The man has no integrity and IS a liar. He doesn't do anything that doesn't advance his personal agenda or political goals. He's an elected Paul Allen--"I just want to work with the public on this (insert issue here)." Which translates to getting the taxpayers to pay for these schemes. Instead of the penthouse office, we should just rent a Honey Bucket for him and move it to each new tent city location so King Ron can mingle with his subjects. However, we all know that a "deal" will be reached with the council and his loyal council lackeys will spend the next few years trying to justify their decision.

24. I get the impression that Ron Sims feels that what David Layton is saying is not fully truthful....

He has "all but called Layton a liar".

25. Who in the Hell does Ron Sims think he is?? That man had better learn to humble himself pretty damn soon or he will draw the wrath of the very public he was elected to ....(here's the important part..) "SERVE" !!

He thinks his executive position affords him the luxury of a penthouse suite?? This man is deep into some sick fantasy!

Yo Sims! You want to be an elected servant? Be one in a freaking basement somewhere! Save the King County admin building for the fraudulent homeless voters to use as their residence when they register to vote..

29. I have the new office for Ron Sims. He can have his choice of three locations in downtown Seattle, all three of these million dollar babies (facilities) are self flushing and self cleaning.

The only issue left is where his limo and driver can park.

30. Larry, as always, when you assume, you know what happens.

I voted for neither.

However, I call out a hypocrit when I see it.

Mr. Sharansky and Executive Simms deserve each other.

And, heck, this may be the one time that Mr. Sharansky has told the truth, after all:

"When he [Mr. Sharansky and his board] shifts the discussion and starts lashing out and attacking a critic's character instead of addressing the facts, it's tantamount to an admission that his critic is correct.

32. JDB,

You say you didn't vote for Ron, and that Ron and Stefan deserve each other.

Stefan writes a blog. Ron is the County Executive of the 12th largest county administration in the country (by area, population, or budget - I'm not certain).

If you're equating Stefan and Ron, there's an underlying implication that Ron is far too powerful for your taste. So what have you done to help remedy or rectify this situation?

You expend energy on this blog trying to bring Stefan down a few notches. Shouldn't you be doing the same for Ron? Shouldn't you be campaigning against, helping expose, and in general trying to bring down Ron Sims??

Otherwise, you've equated two people, but you're picking on the small guy and letting the big machine get away with everything including the kitchen sink!! And to think I was under the impression that Democrats and liberals were FOR the little guy!

Posted by: Larry on March 10, 2006 04:42 PM
