Democrats for domestic spying

Seattle's Congressman-for-Life, "Baghdad" Jim McDermott has been an outspoken critic of the Bush administration for what he calls "domestic spying". Which is somewhat ironic in light of McDermott's own legal problems over his use of an illicitly recorded phone call involving Republican Congressmen. As Best of the Web remarked yesterday, McDermott's supporters seem to be "more troubled by the U.S. government spying on foreign enemies than by Democrats spying on their domestic opponents"

Here is an appeal that Baghdad Jim e-mailed out begging others to cough up the money so he can pay restitution to the victim of his own crimes.

1. This letter should be splashed all over the newspapers and radio.

People need to see how much "respect" Jim has for the law.

Silly me, they already do. We are in real trouble as a nation and especially in this state.

2. Yes, stefan, the whole thing IS quite ironic, isn't it??

3. The thought processes of Baghdad Jim are:
Bush and the republicans are a greater threat to us then Al-Qaida. This is the reason that we can't wire tap them, but should be wiretapping republicans.

I am happy that democrats truly believe this. Otherwise they actually might have a chance at winning an election.

4. I agree there is rampant hypocrisy here, but that is nothing new with the left. I think this McDermott thing is more analagous to Nixon's spying (which the left is also quick to take the moral high ground on). But the Bush domestic spying does have the recency factor.

5. Steve Beren, former anti-war activist, turned patriot, has an interesting opinion article about Baghdad Jim, more about that here.

6. It's about what we all expected from McDermott. He should NEVER have to pay for breaking the law, and he should not have to pay the court imposed penalties. As many other people as he can convince should pay, just not him. He's really proud of what he did, admits it now, but doesn't want to pay for it. What a donkey!

7. Jim McDermott the Democrat poster Child for National Security. The only ones allowed to use Government officials to spy on political opponents are Democrats. Only Democrats know who can be spied on. Military is evil and Sadaam is unjustly imprisioned by the US Military. Sadaam cares about kids. It is Republicans and US Military that are evil and do evil things. They must be destroyed at all costs.
The democratic motto "Get rid of the military budget and we can feed the world."
On a side note it was the Clinton Administrator that used THE IRS TO DO AUDITS on the political opponents. And the Democrats block funding on release of the report that proves it.
Democrats use Government to attack opponents. Republicans though not perfect attack terrorists. Look how Bush let the Democrats run all over spending for more education money and the drug bill for the elderly. Democrats help write it then complain then need more money for the programs it is not enough.
McDermott the poster child of what the Democratic party stands for. Destroy all opponents anyway possible. Constitutional rights what rights they only exist for them and no one else.

8. In the comments of the post right before this one, I outline this exact irony. The Progressives/ Dems/ Libs/ Leftists, etc. will fall to their own ideas. Their own ideas are gauranteed to backfire. Socialism does not work because output per contributor cannot be measure in Socialist societies as it can be in Capitalism. Social policies that promote less children also work against those on the left. The can't sustain their own base.

And then you have hypocrisy like that of Bhagdad Jim. In general the Dems of late have become the party of "Do as we say, not as we do." It's OK if it benefits their ideas, not OK if they disagree. And this too shall fail.

Take heart conservatives. Everywhere you look, it's caving in on the liberals.

9. McDimWit still speaks fluently out of both sides of his mouth AND his A$$, all at the same time.
This is typical of the self-proclaimed New Age Progressive KLOWN wing of the Democratic Party.
The END justifies any means.
Do you see one ounce of remorse in McDimWit?
Hell no!!
McDimWit is "soul-less" and has no conscience.
The sad part is the Hippy's will rush to sign over their Welfare and Unemployment Checks to bail him out for his misconduct.

10. Still waiting for an explanation why FBI files were found in the white house bedroom when Clinton(s) were in power.

Remember when?

11. Baghdad Jim was not well-regarded as a pediatric psychiatrist by his peers, from information I have heard& read nor is he well-regarded as a representative of his constituents in Seattle. After losing this law suit appeal, he should be censured, thrown off committees in Congress and made an insignificant back bencher. A piranha.

Maybe then the people in his district in Seattle will wake up to the fact that they have elected a strawman who has done nothing for them except give Seattle & Washington a blacker name for ethics than it had before. He's not worth a penny of his salary & should be ashamed for what he has done, although he seems proud of it. The taxpayers in his district need to wake up and see the harm he's done compared to a good respresentative who would have their interests in mind, not his own petty politics. They certainly have reason to recall him but I'm not going to hold my breath.

12. I suggest we each donate $1 to his "defense fund." It takes more than that to just process it. It's like leaving a stack of pennies for wait staff.
