President Bush is visiting Medina tomorrow to headline a campaign event for Congressman Dave Reichert, who by the way is the most centrist member of the state Congressional delegation. Reichert's independent voting record notwithstanding, the local nutroots are suffering from a serious bout of Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS) this week. Symptoms include a scheduled die-in and a madcap effort to raise money for Darcy Burner's implausible congressional campaign.
At the risk of raining on Darcy Burner's attempt to rain on Congressman Reichert's parade, I quote from Darcy Burner's own statement at the Daily Kos
our troops have done everything we have asked them to do...I've believed all along that the liberation and reconstruction of Iraq would be difficult but ultimately successful. Despite the inevitable challenges and setbacks that occur in every war, the big picture is that we're winning and we need to persevere. And this issue, in spite of some of my other disappointments with national Republicans, is the single most important reason to support the President and Republican Congressmen like Dave Reichert. I'm pleased that Darcy Burner agrees that we're winning the war. But that's all the more reason to re-elect Congressman Reichert and keep the Congress in the hands of the party that is committed to finishing the job and which will not surrender while we're ahead. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at June 15, 2006 01:02 PM | Email ThisWe asked them to topple a brutal dictatorship, and they did it faster than anyone believed possible.
We asked them to secure the nation and make sure there were no weapons of mass destruction, and they did that.
We asked them to keep the peace while the Iraqis formed an interim government and negotiated a constitution, and they did that.
We asked them to hold back an increasingly violent insurgency while Iraqis held another election, and they did that.
At least, that's what she'll say on Kos. Out of the realm of Mom and Dad's basement, she'll repeat more of what you posted, Stefan.
I find it interesting that she's even posting on Kos. Normally, full time candidates are too busy for that. Kos and the other moonbat sites should divulge how much $$$$ they're getting from Howard Dean to front the dnc's candidates.
Posted by: Steve_dog on June 15, 2006 01:49 PMBut the boos from the Nutroots Whacky Left, Die-Ins, Blocking the Port of Olympia, glorification of Ehrin Watada deserters, relentless attacks by John Murtha based on lies of US Troop atrocity, etc. all paint a different picture. Those that control the power levers on the left have long since decided there will be no budging on their anti-war stance.
I don't think he is centrist. He is a big promoter of VAWA, about the most orthodox feminist ideology driven legislation in existence. Any politician that supports the erosion of my Constitutional and civil rights simply for the purpose of political expedience will gain no support from me.
Yes, sometimes you need to compromise and settle for less than you'd like in a politician. But, I think that if more fathers in Reichert's district knew the sort of policy and ideology he supports, and the fact that their rights as parents no longer exist as such, they would not vote for him.

Posted by: Janet S on June 15, 2006 05:32 PMOh -- and MES?
"Silly Darcy -- she's just cost herself all the leftist moonbat support and cash. Since that's now the base of the Democratic Party, she's doomed."
Take a look at this reaction from "a moonbat":
Your blurb about our troops and the mission
is amazing! So clear and concise. Our troops have done everything asked and more, yet politicans have failed to give them the complete mission. The troops will get us to wherever we need to be. Best fighting force in the world. They do truely put us to shame with their sacrifice.
Seems you wingnuts are pretty clueless.
Posted by: mountolympus on June 15, 2006 09:47 PMI've got a baseline below which I will not cast my vote. That baseline involves believing that a candidate cares about my Constitutional rights. Drop below that line, I can't vote for even a Republican. Plenty of other otherwise Republicans agree with me.
