![]() | Joni Balter, in today's column, "And the governor in 2012 is ...": The young boy in the movie "The Sixth Sense" sees dead people. I see future elections. |
[Logan] was hounded out of office by an overbearing County Council and an orchestrated political campaign designed to discredit him.I'm dying to hear the details of Balter's conspiracy theory about this alleged orchestrated campaign. First she has hallucinations about past elections. And now she admits that she suffers from hallucinations about future elections. The subject of today's hallucination is King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson, of whom she has premonitions that he will succeed Ron Sims as County Executive and/or Gary Locke as duly elected Governor. Now I like Bob Ferguson too, although I have some specific substantive issues about some of his votes this week (scroll down or click here). I also think he has the potential to go far in politics, but I can't say that being praised by Joni Balter is something that an aspiring politician should necessarily boast about.
UPDATE: A tip of the hat, so to speak, to our enterprising Photoshop-savvy readers who sent us pictures of Joni Balter wearing a tinfoil headpiece. Thanks to Mark R. for the winning entry.
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at June 22, 2006 01:07 PM | Email ThisBob Ferguson is basically a decent fellow, and he did defeat Cynthia Sullivan by doorbelling
Bob also defeated Cynthia? Edmunds? the other KC Council Member who was redistricted and who Ron Sims supported
Bob's manipulation of KC Council on Monday afternoon was very skilled in that he played both sides of the street
What Joni's story does not mention is what happens to Ron, Larry, and Larry
Since Ron's been defeated in his run for US Senate and Governor, he's basically limited to King County
Will Larry & Larry stay w/ KC Council or will they want to trade up to Executive and/or Governor
Also what is absent is how does Bob feel about travelling to the other Washington?
A more likely scenario might be him running in 2010 for the US Senate or earlier if one of the US
Senators dies in office
Since the commute can break up families, Bob may chose to stay in Puget Sound
The only dark clouds I see for Bob are if the 2006 Elections gets hosed again and if cannot mend fences with the Sheriff (after he ambushed her at Kenmore School with his April Town Meeting on the Seattle PIs series of articles about the KC Sheriff's Department behaviour)
Posted by: Gus on June 22, 2006 02:07 PMI could see Rossi, pulling a Gore and not running. Especially if Gregoire gains popularity and seems more difficult to beat. That and being the incumbent makes her the defacto favorite. I could also see R's wanting to give someone else a chance. Assuming Rossi does not run, the R's don't have much to offer in 08(barring an early McKenna run). That leave Chris in the mansion till 12.
As for Ferguson. Ron may just retire and move on to post-elected life. Ferguson’s an astute politician and could win the exec seat, even against Phelps. However, getting the Gov nod in 12 might be more difficult. Gregoire would have to step down, or he would have to beat in the primary.
That leads to 12, were lets assume Gregoire bows out. Mckenna senses opportunity and jumps in. With little else to offer in high office (Reed is too old) The R’s would likely choice him. Ferguson would then to be able to jump in, and may have a shot at the Dem nomination.
My only problem is that this could potentially be the most boring gubernatorial election in history. Both are rather reserved and somewhat centrist.
Back on topic, with that photo, Balter would've fit right in with the KOS convention tinfoil hat-makers.
