IE7 Rendering Problem

I've received numerous complaints today similar to this one:

I'm having trouble viewing the main SoundPolitics page in the latest beta of IE 7--once the 'sound events' renders in the right column, everything in the left column is blanked out until the right column
ends. [Yes, this is undoubtably a regression bug in the beta, since IE 6 displays it just fine--although it took a while for the Sound Events section to render...]
One well-placed Microsoftie tells me that this showed up in early beta versions but is fixed in Beta 3. Anybody else having problems with a different browser? Anybody notice if our HTML tags are broken? Feel free to discuss in comments.

3. Yes I have been seeing this on and off for several mos. just ignored it. My screen breaks at 'Buy this book' and then puts remainder of Right column at end of comments. I use IE6. I always go from SP to Orbusmax or others so I miss not having list at R side

5. Stefan, I emailed you a while back about page loading difficulties. Pages from www.usefulwork.com would load OK, but pages from the main site would timeout. This would happen at random times.

I solved it for myself (apparently because it is no longer occurring) by adding SoundPolitics.com's IP address to my Hosts file (augments DNS lookup).

I don't care for spyware, so I don't subject myself to MS Internet Exploder ;'}

7. Looks fine in Safari, Camino, and Opera. As usual, it is the product of the Redmond racketeers that does not measure up.

9. Just installed IE7 Beta 3 over the weekend (to try to address a different issue) and this problem comes and goes. Never had the issue with IE6.

Been using Firefox instead and all is well.

10. Get a real browser, Firefox. Or get a real computer, a Mac. That will solve your problem.

11. Microsoft Windows Vista secret:

Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit. As we were talking I mentioned having recently installed Windows Vista Beat on my PC and that I am very happy with this operating system. I also showed him the Windows Vista CD, and to my surprise he threw it into my micro-wave oven and turned on the oven. Instantly I got very upset, because the CD had become precious to me, but he said: 'Do not worry, it is unharmed.'

After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said: 'Take a close look at it.' To my surprise the CD was quite cold to hold and it seemed to be heavier than before. At first I could not see anything, but then on the inner edge of the central hole I saw an inscription; an inscription finer than anything I have ever seen before. The inscription shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth:

4F6E65204F5320746F2072756C65207468656D20616C6C2C204F6E65204F5320746

'I cannot understand the fiery letters,' I said.

'No,' he said 'but I can. The letters are Hex, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Microsoft, which I shall not utter here. But in common English this is what it says:

One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them,
One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

12. Just like Sutherroots, I too have IE7 Beta 3 installed. The issue is still ongoing for me.

Just an observation, nothing more.

13. I have a problem opening extended entries in Safari. Before now, I could open extended entries by clicking on the time. That does not work anymore. Can anyone offer some help? Thank you!!!

15. I've seen this problem since I started using the IE7 beta 3

16. I'm using IE7 Beta 3. It doesn't blank out the screen, but it does push things down off the page in a very funny way. It's as if the columns in one table are splitting the columns in another. I haven't opened the HTML to see if I can find the precise problem but this kind of rendering problem is usually because an HTML tag isn't closed properly. (Like a missing or something.)

17. IE7 beta3 with javascript disabled render this page http://soundpolitics.com/ correctly. So there's a bug in your site and not in IE7

Posted by: dave on July 11, 2006 11:53 AM
18. No Dave, it's actually a bug in how IE renders the page. IE has never been compliant with the CSS standard. The bug is even more apparent with 3 column CSS layouts. I have to code two different sections in my Cascading Style Sheet, one for IE and one for Mozilla based browsers.

M$ said that they would be making IE7 more compliant with the CSS standard, but it looks like they managed to screw it up again....
