King County Interim Elections Director Jim Buck ("Jimron") is on vacation just in time to prepare for the general election
Much like a traditional absentee voter, Jim Buck is out of town for a big chunk of this election season.(I hear he's in Germany). Maybe that was the motivation for an earlier primary -- to give more election administrators enough time off to attend Oktoberfest.
Larry Phillips, the East German-style commissar of the King County Politburo, is untroubled by a rudderless elections department
[Phillips] had confidence in the elections office because it has successfully conducted several elections since the 2004 governor's electionIn Phillips' world, apparently, a successful election is one where dozens or hundreds of ballots disappear.
Phillips is the Council's most intransigent opponent to the proposal for an elected elections director.

Move along folks, no story here. Move along, move along ...
Posted by: Jay on October 12, 2006 11:00 AMWhen oh when will the error rate equal that of a banking institution. These government hacks want to co-op private sector terms all the time but not private sector results. I have gone from a voter that considers the yes and no to a voter that votes no against the government every time even if I need to press yes to get a no. Oh wait that is fill out the now easily tampered with mail ballot complete with full identification of who it was issued to and what precinct it is from so it can be conveniently uncounted or remarked or something like that.
but--don't most people get excited and dive into their new/temp jobs/responsibilites to meet their staff & get up to speed? i know i would; and--if he's an election official, doesen't he know of his existing or his new position's "busy seasons?"
people should take their vacations, but i don't see a lot of job enthusiasm here; basically a "hello and goodbye and still on the payroll." am i overly intolerant? this at a time when they should be giving the appearance of being MORE vigilant due to past irregularities.
