One of the more helpful results of the Internet in political campaigns is the practice of candidates who are serious about the medium placing all their ads online for all to see. This is good. But, when a candidate chooses to selectively omit an ad, behold, this is not good.
That is exactly what Maria Cantwell appears to be doing. On October 11 I examined an attack ad unleashed by her campaign, which drew this thorough response from Mike McGavick's campaign.
Yet, though the ad had been out at least a couple of days when written about here, it still isn't up at Cantwell's website; neither in the "video" section, nor in the "press releases."
The reporters who read Sound Politics may want to pose the question to Cantwell's campaign: is she ashamed of her ad? Afraid to show herself on the attack since it's the only clear attack ad of the campaign from either side? Or just not proud that the ad's flimsy content didn't hold up well under the facts?

Posted by: Bill Cruchon on October 16, 2006 07:40 AMIt's a take off of an old Rainier Beer TV commercial. I agree it's the most entertianing ad so far. It gets her name recognition without addressing issues or anything.

Are the Democrats spiteful or not?
Posted by: swatter on October 16, 2006 08:25 AMActually the Cubans are. We won't drill for oil in the Florida Strait but we'll let the Cubans take the oil there.
Posted by: RBW on October 16, 2006 08:48 AMIsn't this like the gambling on the reservations? The Indians can have the big casinos (like drilling offshore and in Alaska), but the citizens of the United States of America can't?
Democrats will do everything to hurt us.
Posted by: swatter on October 16, 2006 09:05 AMThat's where I hook up with your mother, you know.
Posted by: ivan on October 16, 2006 10:45 AMI thought the internet gambling thing was a big ruse, but after reading up on it the problem appears to be that many of the gambling sites are laundering money for offshore groups that are affiliated with organized crime and terrorism.
So with that in mind, I have to agree that its a prudent thing to do.

from the AP, "The raids came three days after news broke that the FBI is investigating whether the Delaware County congressman used his influence to help his daughter, a registered lobbyist, win consulting contracts."
Gee, if we were to change that a little, who would it resemble?
"The raids came three days after news broke that the FBI is investigating whether the Washington State senator used her influence to help her special friend, a registered lobbyist, win consulting contracts." (Edits mine)
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Posted by: alphabet soup on October 16, 2006 12:11 PMI don't like the idea of casino gambling in this state, but if we have to have it, it should be uniform.
But, that is offpoint and my point is that Democrats will shoot their nose off (no offshore drilling, e.g.) in order to spite the Republicans. Cantwell's rant against ANWAR was such a power trip. She won points (with some people) but we, as a country, are losing overall.

You may be right. In fact China could be the ones actually doing the drilling for Cuba.
