Darcy Burner's Campaign May Be On Tilt

Stefan has some great work below on a stunt pulled by Darcy Burner in her latest ad. Clearly, the false claim of independent verification from the Seattle Times, to protect her from legitimate charges she'll vote to raise taxes, is amazing. It's one thing to stretch the meaning of the article, or be creative in quoting its text, but the Burner campaign is citing an article that in no way discusses the tax hike accusations in question. More importantly, however, I think this new Burner ad points to a bigger problem her campaign faces: they may be close to going on tilt.

Serious questions have been raised, even by the Seattle Times editorial board, about Burner's focus on George W. Bush rather than Dave Reichert. Yet, in this new ad we have an even more unhinged attempt to create a Bush-Reichert conjoined twin for the voters of the 8th Congressional District to run out of town on a rail. One would think the Burner campaign could find a way to do that without butchering a source in an ad so badly it makes this minor controversy over a Reichert ad look like a typo.

Burner's message in a nutshell is Republicans are bad, Dave Reichert is one of them, thus he needs to go. Great message for her liberal base, terrible message for the less partisan voters that gave Dave Reichert his winning margin in 2004, and now need to be told why she is a better candidate to replace him. Seems that's proving to be a bit difficult.

1. A Democrat using the tactics of lies and distortion, the vary acts they accuse Republicans of, to deceive voters about the truth? Is anyone still surprised?

Or relying on an anti-Bush campaign with no ideas or solutions? That's not new either.

The hypocrisy of Democrats has no bounds. If you don't understand yet that a Democrat will allege anything, do anything, and allow anything to happen to win, you haven't been paying enough attention.

2. The Democrat State Senators and Representatives from within the 8th Cong. District must be kicking themselves when they look at the poll numbers. My guess is they all figure that if they were the candidate, they would be ahead in the polls, based on the numbers that a lightweight such as Darcy is pulling.

3. The Times ports ANOTHER shady mis-step of the drama queen and her hapless minions.

5. The D's are so unhinged they are papering parking lots like the original paper hanger with insane rantings about Dave. My urban assault vehicle came under attack on a recent sunny day. Fortunately it is raining today so it should be safe.

Thinking of adding Vaseline to the wiper arm underside so a little goop for the violator will help their day.

BTW I am enjoying removing the insane rantings about Dave from company bulletin boards that are specifically labeled for HR use only. One more and I think I will replace it with one about DB in the same font and style and see how long it remains. Hee Hee.

6. re MJC at #1:

neither poitical party has a monopoly on hypocrisy. often the power in power, by defintion, provides more examples.

7. It's the DOUBLE STANDARD of the liberals that's galling.

Their guy buggers underage pages and they sing his glory and keep him in office.

Our guy sends emails and IM's, and resigns in shame.

Which is vilified?

Their guy murders a young woman while driving drunk and is celebrated as elder statesman.

Our guy has a minor hunting accident and is vilified with glee.

Their guy makes hateful movies and gets a seat at the convention.

Our guy talks on the radio and is hounded and hunted for his presciption drugs.

Their guy hides 90k in his freezer and nary a rebuke.

Our guy has questionable lobbying and resigns.

Their guys use blatant racist words and are relected.

Our guy uses obscure animal references and is vilified for months.

We could go on for hours.

8. neither poitical party has a monopoly on hypocrisy

Except the levels between the two are not equal, and one acts like it's immune to the charge.

10. Darcy's latest ad claiming that Reichert et. al. don't tell the truth is ironic.

As pointed out, she flashes the word "innaccuracies" on the screen to support her statements about taxes. The only place that word shows up in the article is:

"Ads against both candidates contain inaccuracies.

So, Darcy herself can't be truthful when accusing someone else of not telling the truth?

Brilliant strategy.

11. Great post at #7 Cheryl. More evidence that conservatives provide evidence and examples in their arguments while libs like Dinesh can only upchuck talking points.

12. "Their guy buggers underage pages and they sing his glory and keep him in office."

And don't forget the media that tries to downplay the Democrat sleezeballs while reporting Foley's email and IM exchanges in thousands of articles and hundreds of TV news reports. The FBI hasn't uncovered a single instance of Foley actually engaging in sex with underage pages, but the media is all over this like he's been having sex with children for decades. I mean really, these are the same people who supported Bill Clinton's claim that a hummer wasn't even sex, and that Paula Jones was a slut. They dismissed Juanita Broderick's rape allegations without hesitation, but can you imagine of claims of a Republican raping someone were exposed?

Then the Seattle Times gets caught manipulating a related story and they still deny their bias. But we alll know the MSM is biased, and we all suspect the effect that bias has on the electorate, and it could be the single greatest reason that Americans haven't kicked Democrats out of office everywhere.

Bias at the Seattle Times - Even worse than first thought

13. There's never going to be a fair playing field in this town until there is broad effort to call attention to the bias in Seattle media.

It absolutely gauls me when I sit in a room full of republican small business owners on a Tuesday night during a fund raiser and on Saturday morning open up the Seattle PI on Saturday AM and find their ads plastered all over the paper. Why are we giving money to these idiots? There are other media outlets in this town.

15. I keep trying to get folks to understand. All signs point to the Burner campaign in panic-pull-out-all-stops mode.

Any fool can see that a suburban district like the 8th is not the proper place for a True-Blue-Bush-Deranged style campaign. Any serious candidate would conduct themselves in a balanced and somewhat moderate manner. Much like that of Reichert who was elected by a considerable margin.

Darcy Burner has signed on with the Nutroots Goldstein Extremist Wing of the Democrat party. For whatever reason, hubris, bad advice, inexperience, Darcy bought in to the idea that acting like Jim McDermott would be plausible to voters in the 8th. And frankly, she's worse than Jim McDermott at maintaining an appearance of credibility.

As the wheels of her campaign with respect to Community Service, Experience, Business Experience, Resume Accuracy, Pro-War Credentials, Unfinished Education, etc. have all fallen off, now there is nothing left to run on except the GO-FOR-BROKE- HATE-BUSH platform. And this is what we are witnessing.

This race is over, Darcy Burner has lost. Just watch in November. I predict a Reichert win.

16. And another note: take a close look at the ad again. Darcy Burner has put on some serious weight. Again, a sign of inexperience. Rather than maintain a proper health regimen and good balance during her campaign, she's allowed all of the wining and dining and hurried pace to get to her. She's probably scarfing down anything that comes in front of her. Why is this relevant? Because it is yet another sign of the implosion we are witnessing. Darcy Burner may one day be a political force in WA. Many before her such as Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have proven that it doesn't take a genius to run a successful Blue campaign in this state.

But this is not the district, nor the time for Darcy Burner. She chose poorly and she did not have all of her ducks in a row before beginning this campaign. Don't believe the skewed polls. It's not even going to be all that close. Burner will lose this race.

20. Reichert's ads on Burner's tax position is wildly misleading, worthy of the Turd Blossom himself. Burner would not raise taxes on the average person. The rich have gotten a comfy ride from the Republicans, and it is time for the ride to stop. That is her message, and Reichert folks know it.
