Theocracy alert
Quiz question. Who said the following in a recent political speech?
I'm a Christian and I've got a relationship with somebody upstairs. And it's a wonderful one. I understand from the outset he knows more than I will ever know.
a) President George W. Bush
b) Former Attorney General John Ashcroft
c) Pat Robertson
d) Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania)
e) Other: ___________________
A tip of the hat to the first person to post the correct answer, with attribution, in the comments.
ANSWER: The first submission, from "ktknak", was correct. It's Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. debating his Republican opponent. Source: today's NPR Morning Edition at 1:40.

1. Harold Ford, Jr. Democratic candidate for Senate in Tennessee.
2. (e)--other--
i'll go for the red herring/statistical outlier--
Mr. Clinton while visiting NY for his wife's re-election or otherwise fundraising. got the kids' college funds bet on this, so it's important.
3. How about the Uptight Seattleite of Seattle Weekly fame. LOL
4. I've often said that the two biggist mistakes that Bush made (for Democrats) is that he admitted that he's a Christian and that he is Republican (in that order).
Looks like Ford is halfway there already!
5. Good quiz. I wonder why it's okay for a democrat to say this and not a republican? Trolls, please explain.
6. Michele, because republicans are #*%$$!
Troll imitation provided free of charge.
7. Putin has recently joined the Russian Orthodox Church. It is, therefore, now PC to be a "Christian".
8. It is alright for anyone of any political ideology to proclaim their faith or relationship with God. Christianity is based on a belief that once Christ enters one's life, the heart is changed. Hence, the reference to being born again. Who is the judge of whether one's heart has been changed, well that determination is made by God. Ask the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah of the consequences of mocking God. Letting God decide is fine with me.
9. can i get 2 guesses? is it a recent Seattle resident former religion-of-peace convert? (yea--i'm stuffing the ballot box with guesses!)
10. ..and yet when George W Bush said his favorite political person in history was Jesus Christ, he was ripped to shreds for it by the hysterical left. Apparently, you're only allowed to suggest that you are a (horrors!) christian if you have a D after your name.
DOUBLE STANDARD ALERT!!!
11. The left knows Ford is as full of cr@p about that statement as he is about any other he has made regarding lowering taxes, killing terrorists or keeping America free. As a matter of fact guys like Ford are the most dangerous because they will claim the false prophet mantle while building the gulags of our time.
Meanwhile RINO moderates continue to fear the religious right (a pejorative) and only wish (or pray with a very small p) Ford would claim to be an R instead of a D.
In this case Jesus is just a marketing slogan as meaningful as Metro Natural or an error rate any bank would envy.
Hitlary and Broken Obombo are busy test marketing crosses and bible cover font sizes to have that just right look for the '08 run.
Oh Jesus Spit them out you say you will.
12. WVH #8: "Christianity is based on a belief that once Christ enters one's life, the heart is changed. Hence, the reference to being born again."
I respectfully disagree with your assertion. Christianity is based on the belief that Jesus rose from the grave: "And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain and your faith is also vain" (1 Cor. 15:14).
Believe and receive to become born again: "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name" (John 1:12).
Michele #10: "..and yet when George W Bush said his favorite political person in history was Jesus Christ..."
I guess this means G-dub is a sworn in again Christian. ;-)
13. 1. The Council of Nicaea, contrary to Dan Brown
established Christ's deity. About 318 Bishops
were present and only two refused to sign. The
Nicene Creed, which most denominations claiming
to be Christian recite comes from this council.
#12 refers to doctrine from Scripture which is
encompassed in the Creed. Lutzer, E.W., The
Da Vini Deception, (2004) pp. 9-10.
2. Christianity is very much a religion of a
changed heart:
Jud 13:8
Then Manoah prayed to the Lord: "O Lord, I beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born."
Joh 3:3
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
Joh 3:7
You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
1Pe 1:23
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Now, back to Mr. Ford or whomever this site cares to be skeptical of their intent. There are plenty of potential hypocrites on both sides of the aisle.
14. Whoa! 2nd quiz: which radical right political figure said THIS: "you'll get a Jesus-lovin', gun-supportin', believer..." if you vote for him.
a) Gary Bauer
b) Dr. Jim Dobson
c) Jerry Fallwell
(yes, I KNOW none of them are on a ballot, but just play along with me, here, okay??)
If you picked "Other", you're right. But it was another trick question. Said phrase came from....tada!...democrat HAROLD FORD! This came in response to an actual fair question from an MSM interviewer: "But Harold, if you get elected and find yourself in the majority, won't that mean Harry Reid as Sen. leader? Ted Kennedy as a chairman? And just a big boost to liberalism??? "(I'm stunned at the honesty of the interviewer's question! And poor Harold must've been choking upon hearing such a dead-on question) So Harold gave him the above muy evasive answer. Folks, this is getting very strange with Harold. He's clearly been told to milk the christian card for all it's worth. But ad nauseam, at this point. I can hardly believe my ears, listening to a democrat speak thus.
Kudos to Janet Parshall for airing this sound bite on her radio show.
15. It's a beautiful think to see the D's make a play for us cheap date republicans not matter how insincere as our existing party could not give a rip about us. Survival time of the Republican Party minus the conservative christian vote is about 1 election ... ahhhh and that election would be in Nov 2006.
16. I am a "cheap date" independent and I am looking for truth and light from either party. Where is Sodam and Gomorrah when you need it? There will come a time when all the "cheap dates" will be actively courted by both parties. Looks like the time is now. To my fellow "cheap dates" beware of wolves in sheep's clothing. Look for candidates that really express your views and be wary of anyone that denigrates you for your views.
17. I find it interesting that a Dem pretending to be a devoted Christian can be no more specific than "having a relationship with someone upstairs". Reminds me more of somebody having an affair with some neighbors wife.
18. Genarlly speaking, if one believes in Heaven, one looks toward the sky because God dwells in the Heavenlies, hence up. Hell is below, in fact some scholars feel there is a place in the center of the earth. Is this site so bigoted that no democrat can ever be considered a believer?
Daniel 6:10 -
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Looking upstairs was good enough for Daniel.
19. No it wasn't. He went upstairs and prayed. To his God as he'd done before. He didn't make some vague reference to "someone" upstairs.
20. RBW, I love Bible study, don't you? Where in the colloquial sense does God live - upstairs or downstairs? My comments about bigotry are aimed specifically at posters that seem to hate Mr. Ford so intently that any form of Christian charity eludes them. Daniel went upstairs and prayed. Methaphorically, God lives upstairs. From my study, God knows the human heart. I don't know what is in Mr. Ford's heart, do you?
As an aside, the previous thread concerning low expectations for those of color. I support both Michael Steele in Maryland and Ford in Tennessee. This country will never move forward in acceptance of all its citizens until they are free to pursue any and all offices. RBW, I have my Bible out. Your next comment?
