Poll: Reichert leads Burner by six points

KING-5's Robert Mak reports:

a new poll by KING 5 and Survey USA finds Reichert leading by six points: 51 to 45 percent.
This seems more realistic than the Majority Watch poll that Burner fans are touting. Mak's conclusion gets to the nub of the race:
in the end the question is: Will voters decide this race based on the president's approval rating or on their opinion of Reichert?
The race is solely about Bush and Reichert. Darcy Burner, as such, isn't a factor. The choice is between the popular and respected Reichert (tarnished in some people's minds by his association with Bush) and an unknown nobody. Bush would have to be an awfully serious drag on Reichert to inspire enough voters to vote for the nobody.

1. Bush is a big drag. In the vote between the giant douche and the turd sandwich, the winner turned out to be pretty much just as advertised, only maybe a bit worse than expected.

People are upset with the evangitard ramblings of the administration, the trend toward massive government, and a GOP version of the nanny state. The administration lacks clear vision on Iraq, or if it does it lacks the ability to communicate that vision in a way that people understand. Nor has it managed to advertise the economy in any meaningful manner.

Your comment certainly raises the level of discourse - NOT!

3. Someone should ask Reichert his views on the Republican battle against sex. Make sure to give him John Boehner's phone number first.

4. Darcy can always move to Mason county and run against Sheldon in 2010. I hear nutty puppet candidates opposing Tim can get a good deal on rent from certain landlords.

5. The Burner candidacy is a further indicator of the contempt in which the electorate is held by the state Democrat machine -- though, in light of Stevean Donegal's inane comments, such contempt may not be entirely unjustified.

6. Six points? That's awfully close to the prediction I made back in June, when I predicted that Reichert would win the district by at least eight points.

7. That rumble you hear in the background are Liberal heads exploding.

Posted by: swassociates on November 1, 2006 02:27 PM
8. Funny Rey, I could say the same thing about McGavick. Why can't the GOP put up a serious candidate for Senate in Washington State?

Posted by: Cato on November 1, 2006 02:36 PM
9. The DNC sponsored anti-Bush/Reichert message is premised upon the rediculous assumption that only Republican congressmen are bound to an agenda and party leadership. One is asked to infer that all Democrats vote their views without influence, direction or control by the party leadership in the House and Senate. Worse yet, too many seem to be too ignorant to notice the absurd contradiction.

10. I got called for that survey.

11. I think the polls aren't adequately capturing one important point. The decision on who will win in the 8th district will be decided by voters in the 8th district.

8th district is not Seattle. The President is not as popular as he was in 2004 here on the eastside, but he is not the irrationally hated person here that he seems to be in left wing Seattle.

At the timing of the end of the Burner/Reichert debate in Seattle, I happened to be at the park and ride that is right off the 90 freeway. I watched the flood of cars after that debate as they took the onramp to go back to Seattle. I have no doubt the people in those cars were heavy Burner supporters, but they don't vote in the 8th district.

I think a lot of these polls are measuring the mood of the region (dominated overall by Seattle) rather than the mood of the 8th district. In the 8th, Reichert has a solid following and he's going to win.

12. I'm with Jim and have repeatedly predicted in the comments that Reichert will win and that it won't be close. Amongst the extreme left there is an amplification of Burner's credentials that leads them to a plausible denial. In reality, Burner's depth is paper thin. She's lacking in so many ways and has conducted her campaign so poorly and with so many gaffes. Had she run a more positive campaign and stayed within the 8th, truly pounding the pavement to convince voters, she might have had a chance. But instead, she chose the opposite, a remote, Seattle centered campaign in clear alignment with the ant-Bush crowd.

A casual glance at the map of what constitutes the borders of the 8th district will show that Burner's alignment with the extreme left is a liability that will not resonate.

If the polls are saying +6, it's probably more like +8 or even higher for Reichert.

And don't think I'm seeing dreamy wins for all WA Republicans. McGavick is a completely different story and a much more challenging race. McGavick has a chance, but it is Cantwell's race to lose.

Burner, no chance at all.

13. Btw, does anyone know if KC has gotten the military ballots out on time, this time?

Posted by: Michele on November 1, 2006 03:31 PM
14. jimmy,

Are you literally saying that they are sampling Seattle in this poll?

The polls, by the way, are saying either Burner or Reichert is up, within MoE. The polls are saying here what they are pretty much saying nationally - it depends on who turns out on election day.

15. I hear the leftist tops warming up for their election night spin... they'll need them to explain how idiotic they were in supporting an empty-suited lightweight... oops, I mean how Burner's crushing, humiliating defeat was all the GOP's fault as a result of a stupid electorate and dirty tricks... kinda of a leftist fringe boiler plate.

Posted by: Hinton on November 1, 2006 03:53 PM
16. Let's all remember that we are not likely to know any election results Tuesday, since King County elections won't have all of Cantwell's additional ballots xeroxed in time for the nightly total. It may take weeks for workers there to pad her margin of victory.

I am sure it is on the to do list of the interim elections director. By the way has he gotten back from his vacation yet?

18. Ms. Burner's latest flyer really is a disgusting piece of work (see link on SP). Not sure why my wife got one... maybe it's because she was forced to join the WA State Nurses Assoc and they support all the wacko candidates...

It's like Jekyl and Hyde. One side is all ultra left-wing propaganda that won't go over too well in the 8th... "Bush lied... people died" etc. and the other side is like Mom, apple pie and Chevrolet. It's enough to make anyone gag. I especially like Darcy's promise to help pass the sales tax deduction. Duh. The House already passed it lame brain. It's the Senate with Cantwell and Murray voting against it that's the holdup. And I love the part about her "years" of business experience. She's worked what, about 3 years? Oh, and don't forget, she's a mother... who apparently wants to move to WA DC so her child can spend all its life in daycare. Good thinking... if you're a leftist pinhead.

19. Six points, that means Ron Sim's Election department will have to work overtime sorting out which ballots they will flush down the three million dollar self cleaning drug and prostitute toilets in Seattle.

Ron and his clan can deliver them there in person.

That is if they are not already reserved!

Please, pray tell, what answers do the democrats have? All I see is Bush is evil, Bush is bad. None of the little "d" candidates ever have any answers that more taxes will not cure. At least we have had more tax reduction in the past 6 years than the eight before! Worse people buy into that rhetoric garbage.

Give me back my JFK Democrat Party (Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!)

Please give me some answers democrats! I don't need Bush lied, it doesn't mean a thing this election.

21. I predict the Republicans will prevail in November even though they don't give a shit about Americans and they don't give a shit about the soldiers.

They have to win to keep most of Congress out of prison. And like a gang of thugs, they'll do anything do stay in office.

24. Don't spend too much time looking at polls. Glad he's leading, but put in some time on GOTV efforts. It will be worth it. I,like Jim, thought it would be around an 8-point win for Reichert.

25. Sounds like Jerry #21 is making a pitch to be the Democrat candidate in 2008 for 8th Cong. Dist. A smooth like him, will have the Dems. swooning.

26. Hey Guppy;
How about this illegal voting in Florida going on.
You better get down there in your Don Quioxte outfit and stop it.

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003346999

What should we do with these illegal voters?

You're the crime and punishment group.

We would probably just want to reform them and give them their voting rights back.

Personally I think this one ought to fry.

27. Why is it when conservatives vote with a conservative president most of the time they are accused of being party robots, but when the democRats do it with a democrapic president, they are a "unified front" representing the "will of the people". Which people, I don't know.

Also, for all the "tax the rich" nonsense spouted by the congressional millionaires (Kerry, Clinton, Kennedy, Pelosi, et al), I don't hear any of these moonbats explaining why tax revenues are at an all time high inspite of the "tax cuts only for the rich" done during the Bush administration. Ms. Burner is as economics-impaired as these individuals.

Considering it is really only the MSM predicting a Democratic sweep of the elections, it will be interesting to see how these media morons will explain why things didn't turn out according to said predictions. Remember, these same out of touch individuals thought Bush was toast in 2004. Any one know if Soros ever joined that monastary?

28. danq, you moron. Take a breath before you pull the lever. I know you'd just as soon see someone deliver the fatal blow (you being too much of a coward to ever do it yourself), but don't you think it would be prudent to get a conviction first?

Of course not!

Innocent until proven guilty? what a noble thought, perhaps Coultergeist should try it some time, when she wants people killed.
But glad to see that you're for capital punishment for everything.
People like you are why when I was in Europe last week, I would have to say. "No I am not with the friggin nuts back home" then we could have a conversation.

31. Then why didn't you stay in Europe?

Posted by: jimg on November 1, 2006 10:36 PM
32. Of course it never occurs to folks like danw that his view of the US is as cartoonish and one-sided as those who he felt in need of a knee-jerk apology while on his trip to Europe. In reality, like any place, to truly understand this great country you have to come her and talk to a wide cross section of Americans. Low and behold not everyone thinks like danw, and aghast, we've all got very intelligent and individual convictions for our beliefs.

I wonder if the first thing danw does when he meets someone from another country here in the US is ask if they represent some idiotic stereotype he holds of their country. For example, Australians, who have been a real ally to the US. Does he welcome visitors from down under by asking them if they too are like the wingnuts from our Red States?

But remember, danw comes from the party of tolerance, and don't question his patriotism.

34. Chicken soup;

Aren't you the one who is always asking for civil discourse, and those who don't like it should move over to HA?

Let's see. you've called me a Moron, a dip, and related my parentage to a "Southpark Joke". all in just a couple of posts.

So if that and John Kerry is all you got, then why waste time with someone who has nothing of substance to bring to a debate about what is right for the USA. just like the GOP let's not discuss issues, let's attack the messangers.

I call you "Chicken" Soup, because that's what chickens do.

As for Jeff B. If you would get out of your little nationalistic bubble, you would see that we live in a world larger than your water cooler job here in Seattle. Aren't you the same guy who disproves GLOBAL warming, by saying "it was colder at my house last week" therefore it doesn't exist.
September 12th most of world was behind us.
look what has happened now, for shame what this non-checks and balances congress has allowed to happen.

I am sure we could count on you to walk down the back alleys of Amsterdam, wearing you red/white/and Blue flag shirt, screaming at the top of your lungs..."We need to go F up all them Mooslims" If you'd do that, I'd help send you there. One less wing nut to vote against his own best interest, because he has been O'reilyized.

37. Danw--"September 12th most of world was behind us.
look what has happened now..."

Yes, liberals were in heaven on September 12. They worship at the alter of victimhood. FINALLY, the United States was a victim and they could bask in the love of liberals everywhere who celebrated our victimhood.

Then that mean old stupid Bush decided to fight back! All of the sudden the U.S. was not a victim anymore, but an aggressor--aggressively fighting back against those who attacked us!

You and the liberals running the failing European nations just don't get it! We are at WAR with radical islam. Europe will be a large islamic state in another 50 years and the U.S. will be the only country that will be able to do anything about it. Yet you and the other libs are worried about global warming?? Heck, let the radical islamists take us back to the 7th century and even if you were right about global warming and reducing carbon emissions, it won't be an issue since our economy won't be producing anything. In additions the liberals will either have bowed down to the islamists or will be dead.

Tell me again why I would ever vote to put a Democrat in office as long as we are under this threat?
