John Koster Is Out

County Councilman John Koster has declined to run as the Republican nominee against sitting Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon. It's tough to argue with Koster's logic:

"The late withdrawal by Sheriff Bart just does not provide me with enough time to be effective as a councilman for my district and to organize and launch a campaign proportionate to the challenge," Koster said. "I owe my supporters a fair shot at running a strong campaign, and the timing was not right."

As the article notes, there's not a lot of other takers lining up either.

1. I had heard good things about Bart, but this is despicable. If he couldn't raise the cash he shouldn't have been in it.

Koster did say he might be interested in the future.

2. If you can't find a decent GOP candidate in a heavy GOP voting country it does not seem like a good sign for the Governors race.

3. I heard Gregoire has called the State of Washington a nation, but you are the first to call Snohomish County a country.

And if you meant county, get real; Snohomish County doesn't even have a Republican party. Koster comes from an R district within the county; the county is more D.

4. Hmmm....Yup, looks like Snohomish went Dem. in the last two elections. Still, one would hope a token opponent would step up to the plate, much like Mike McGavick did in 2006.

5. You looking at State elections? Federal elections?

Local elections are pretty much Ds except for a smattering of Rs.

Legislative Districts (US) are all Ds, so what you talking about?

Bart really did a number didn't he? Took all the oxygen out by quitting at the last minute. I am not sure he even tried to campaign, except to challenge Reardon on sheriff cuts. Last year Reardon reinstated and added more sheriffs, so Bart's issue was toasted.
