"Zero evidence" of election crimes, or poor allocation of investigator resources?
Today's P-I reports that the FBI expanded counter-terrorism efforts at the expense of investigating other serious crimes:
Thousands of white-collar criminals across the country are no longer being prosecuted in federal court -- and, in many cases, not at all -- leaving a trail of frustrated victims and potentially billions of dollars in fraud and theft losses.
...
a dramatic plunge in FBI investigations and case referrals in many of the crimes that the bureau has traditionally fought, including sophisticated fraud, embezzlement schemes and civil rights violations.
...
Sarah Dunne, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, said the decline in civil rights investigations means "people's rights are not protected."
Add King County Elections to the list of folks who
avoided an FBI investigation due to lack of resources. Add Mrs. Gregoire's
reckless expansion of government to the list of potential fraud losses.

1. I gotta call you on this one - expansion of government, be it "reckless" or not, doesn't constitute fraud.
It may be immoral, uncalled for, unwise, disingenuous, needless, or just plain stupid, but none of that makes it a criminal offense.
2. Wow, so now we can blame Bush for not doing enough to prevent election fraud. Gotta love the perverted logic that dominates this site. =)
3. H Moul: If Mrs. Gregoire's election was fraudulently procured, then the extra money that this causes the citizens to forfeit is a fraud loss.
4. By that logic, every single act she has perfomed as governor has been criminal.
Not that I think she won the election by any stretch of the imagination (I'm pretty sure even she and her most ardent supporters know she actually lost), but the courts say she's the governor, so you have to live with it.
5. It wasn't fraud but gross incompetence that resulted in the Elections debaucle. I unfortunately know many county employees that work there, and they just do not know their jobs. Add to that poor leadership, really they do not possess the competence to commit fraud. There are 9 elements and on a good day they might figure out 2.
6. I've worked at KC Elections (temp) and I've seen a complete span of effectiveness ranging from terrible to outstanding. This is just like other places I have worked - including Microsoft. I note that Republicans in Florida just made their released felons eligible to vote and several other states have just enacted same day registration. Not a peep from the usual suspects in Florida. I think we had a mess in KC, its getting better and maybe Toby Nixon (when he is elected) can bring it to the next level. Sam Reed is all for internet registration which has a whole new set of problems. Let's sign I-25, elect Toby and see how it works.
