Dumb Story Gets Dumber

The silly tiff between the County Council and the County Executive over rumored costs related to a possible bash to celebrate the roll-out of the Boeing 787 got some frontpage coverage in the Everett Herald today. I read through the supporting materials provided at the story. They're a slap-your-hand-against-your-forehead detailing of the seemingly poor communication from the Executive's office coupled with some robust pique from the Council, mostly from current Chair Dave Gossett (D-Mountlake Terrace).

The classic is on page eight where the Council minutes show Gossett pausing his remarks with his "hand drumming on the podium" before continuing to vent his frustrations.

Memo to all electionelected officials involved: this is making you look bad, find a way to solve it.

UPDATE: Postman adds some coverage and catches a typo, now corrected, which he parlays into a pretty good line.

1. I think the exec is looking bad here. Perhaps Bart was a little too quick to quit.

2. Boeing as a company already has a good reason to celebrate its 787 rollout and in the most grand fashion possible. Why does this celebration accomplish other than showing good will to Boeing? Is that worth all the money it needs for the event - close to $100k?

I am just sick and tired of government pissing away hard-earned tax dollars in silly stuff like this. Granted, I don't live in Sno county, but this is something every level of government does on a daily basis. Sheesh... Enough already!

3. There were rumors of 250k.

And don't forget the already millions of corporate welfare the Ds have already given to Boeing.

4. Hey Swatter,
I'm sure some people in Dallas/FW would be happy to give Boeing a big chunk of land outside of town for free (much like they did for Dubya for back in the day). Heck I doubt Arlington, TX would even bat an eye at the thought of spending $100k plus for a roll out party.

Corporate Welfare is alive even in the staunchly GOP state of Texas.

5. Hey, Cato, if I told you that so and so jumped off the Montlake Bridge, would you do it?

250k for a party is not needed. If I remember right, Bart was complaining that Reardon was cutting sheriff deputies due to lack of money. 250k gets you a couple of those.

I see my comment regarding corporate welfare by D administrations cut deep into your land of illusion. Good, it was meant to.

6. I wholeheartedly agree the party is not needed...but again I could care less since I don't live in Everett and have no desire to live in Everett.

Boeing should fund their own parties or at least reimburse the city. Btw, 250k will get you one cop for four years (remember you have to keep paying them). Cops don't come cheap.
