Re: Sarkozy Wins

The Seattle Times has a solid, concise editorial in today's paper summarizing Sarkozy's comparative strengths heading into the run-off election. Credit to the Times for having the editorial in print even before voting commenced today in France.

1. Eric, I hate to be blunt, but someone needs to say it, so I will:

What's with copying Stefan's every post? Why not comment in the comments like everyone else, rather than say the same thing over? If you are on a collective blog, you ought to have something different to say than the other bloggers, or else just leave posts to others. This seems to be spreading amongst the other SP bloggers who now believe there is a competition to be the first to post on a particular topic as per Don Ward's response to the Republican debate roundup. If you have something different to say, then timing does not matter.

If I were Stefan, I'd be thinking of changing the lineup with some other bloggers who have a lot more unique and interesting things to say.

One good blogger who comes to mind is Karl at LSU.

2. I second that. Perhaps, on topics of widespread interest, the crew can decide in advance which blogger will write about it.

3. Part of the reason that Sarkozy won is the immigrant issue. The lamestream media misses again. The unemployment in the ring suburbs around Paris is 40-60%. The birthrate is higher than the nation average and the population is young. There is no way to bring this group into the economic system if the economic system is stagnant and graduates of the elite schools can't get jobs. Sarkozy's task is to jumpstart the economy and begin to produce enough jobs to employ the young, all the young. His task is made more difficult by the difficulty in starting a business by most entrepranuers. He has a massive task ahead.

4. Jeff B. -

Easy killer. Stefan and I both write a lot of stuff that neither comments on. I was simply drawing out an interesting local angle related to Stefan's post. Moreover, I did add a specific comment to Stefan's original post that was directly related to it. But, by putting the mention of the Times editorial in a separate post it makes it more visible to readers who may not slog through the comments.

All we do when we respond to each others posts is add information. That's what group blogs do. Since when is there some rule there can only be one post on a given topic?

Posted by: Eric Earling on May 6, 2007 03:22 PM
5. Eric - one benefit of not creating a new posting is that is doesn't create multiple threads on essentially the same topic. After all, Sound Politics hardly ever touches on national politics, let alone international, so amazing, I actually agree with Jeff B. on something.

Now hell will freeze over...

If a Conservative wins in France, then watch out Defeat-O-Crats...us Republicans are coming on strong in 2008!

7. I can't help wondering if maybe Royal didn't lose a lot of French-born Muslim votes by allowing photos of her bikini-clad self to be flashed all over the media? They couldn't vote for her and maintain their religious views, yet she has the political agenda they want. What a dilemma! Anyway, glad Sarkozy won. Can we start eating "French Fries" again?

9. Eric,

No hard feelings. I just think comments on the same post are better of in the comments, even if you happen to be a contributing blogger. If nothing else it make the blog look boring and harder to digest when one has to follow the same thread twice as others have mentioned.

I like a lot of what you have to say.

Sarkozy holds out friendly hand to US, urges action on global warming

PARIS, May 6, 2007 (AFP) - President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy said Sunday that the United States can count on friendship from France but urged Washington to show leadership in the struggle against global warming.

Sarkozy, who won Sunday's presidential election to succeed Jacques Chirac, said "a great nation like the United States has the duty to not create obstacles in the struggle against global warming."

"Quite the contrary, it should take the lead in this battle because what is at stake is all of humanity," said the rightwinger, who won 53 percent of the vote, according to projections.

"France will make this battle its first battle," he said.

11. Kind of conflicts with Stefan's religious views, eh? Ivan the Union Goon

No more than his election by 53 percent of the FRENCH conflicts with your socialist mantra. Must suck to lose even the home field, huh.

12. I'm an American. Sarkozy is France's problem, and no concern of mine.

13. Ivan: How much spinning does it take for you to get dizzy and fall off your chair away from your keyboard? I'm hoping we can expect that any minute.

Posted by: katomar on May 7, 2007 10:36 AM
14. I earn my living at my keyboard, but I spend plenty of time away from it. Yet there's always time to combat the ignorance, lies, sheer malice, and racist filth that I find on Sound Politics.

Not that any of that applies to you of course, my dear.

15. Ivan:

I have to agreed with Katomar. When it comes to lying weasels, secular progressives take the prize. Is Hillary going to give back the $800,000 she raked in from the lying secular progressive hip hop thug Timberlake? Gee, didn't she jump on Imus for saying the same thing he says in his rap songs? Now, let's deal with your racism charge. Secular progressives, like you, are famous for throwing that term around. What about Hillary talking in a ebonic dialect when she visits Black churches. Wonder if she uses that dialect with Obama or others she considers that won't fall for the patronizing. If she tries that with me, I'd kick her fat a$$ets. What about the secular progressive tendency toward the racism of low expectations for people of color, especially in maintaining the union grip over failing education systems. I understand that Edwards is defending his $400 haircuts and 28,000 sq. foot house. What a carbon footprint that house must have? The Great Society programs have made your home town of Philly the murder capital of the US. So, go back to typing. Your failed socialist policies aren't even welcome in France.

Katomar didn't mention Hillary Clinton and neither did I. I have little time to waste on pathetic Thomas Sowell wannabes.

22. Ivan:

Aren't you the chair of the dems? Aren't you supposed to be for the poor, the downtrodden, the
"minorities" as you call us? So, are you in favor of hip hop thugs? Should Imus get his job back since your pal Hillary supports hip hop thugs?
How about a resolution from your merry little group condemning hip hop? Thought so.

I would rather be associated with Dr. Sowell than you lying secular progressive hypocrite weasels.
You, like Sharpton/Jackson throw the racism word around whenever your elite position is attacked. You need a permanent underclass and you will do everything to keep people in the lower class dumb
and dependent. You are the one that is pathetic.

23. 12--"no concern of mine?" but libs are more than willing to inject the UN, third world traditions and foreign laws into our lives & SCOTUS reasonings. cant have it both ways.

France (and maybe Europe) is realizing that max-taxing and lib socialism & diversity does not a country grow. good luck with their un-trenching established systems & attitudes. that's why we can't let it get a foothold here. undoing a Gordian knot.
