Mrs. Union Signs Gregoire Bail-Out Bill

(The headline should of course read "Mrs. Gregoire Signs Union Bail-Out Bill", but I started out with a typo and thought I'd keep it)

The EFF has the story: "Gregoire "preserves union power" at the expense of teachers and voters; signs union "bail-out" bill into law "

1. Was there ever a doubt?

Democrats do what their told. Chrissy and the Gang are WEA lapdogs, and now, Queenie has proven it.

2. I view unions as the economic equivalent of crabgrass on the lawn of life. We should do our best to minimize them.

3. I wonder if the Supremes will impeach the Governor and legislature for acting against the AG office.

Gregoire should know that this ain't an 'election challenge'. It will be decided by law and she is on the wrong side as she frequently was when she was AG and Ecology director and fighting the sick fight with Washington Supremes.

5. I'm going to quit my Univ. of WA research technologist union in June when the contract is up (the only time I can quit).

I will still have to pay 80% "fair share" dues (now some money will be going to candidates I despise). But maybe I will get some money back retro-actively when this is declared unconstitutional.

6. I quit the International Association of Machinists years ago over the same issue, using my dues to advance Democrat Party politics. Fortunately I was, at that time, a Federal Government employee, where union membership was not mandated. I pity Washington State workers, who have no choice in union membership, thanks to the Queen and one party rule, all funded by public employee unions.

7. I can't think of a worse bill to come out of this Legislature or even previous ones. It's really pathetic that the pseudo-Governor signed the bill to pay back her union cronies & took away the rights of so many employees in Washington, not to mention the money the unions squeeze out of the members in order to contribute to liberal causes and candidates.

I am very hopeful the the US Supreme Court will see this for what it is & slap her down along with the Legislature that passed this piece of junk law. They all deserve it for trying to do an end run around the court.

And that Rep. Prentice (?) who said the unions needed to be kept strong should have her mouth washed out with soap. The unions are way too strong in this state, as it is. I keep hoping that somehow, someway this will become a Right to Work state, but am not holding my breath.

8.
Why is it that when Bill Gates gets a monopoly on software, everyone turns cart wheels about what a great American he is.

But if $59,000 a year laborors use the same techniques, they are condemned as Commies.

It's time people see Labor as a Business. It will use the same techniques as Microsoft and GM.

If you want to outlaw collusion, then apply the law fairly.

9. I have a question.

what is the purpose of the "prevailing wage". Is goverment contract jobs that "important" that we must pay the workers more, thus increasing the cost of the project, us taxpayers pay for also?

10. For the 1,000,000th time, when are we going to see a right to work initiative? Come on people, it is time to end union slavery/organized crime for good in this state.

11. John Bailo,

Unions are slavery/organized crime. They are also monopolistic. It is time to abolish unions. If workers want to join an organization to represent them, let them do it on their own free will without forcing others into the corrupt organization against their will. Also have competition among the organizations. Forcing people into slavery, er unionism is wrong and needs to stop.

12. John Bialo @ 8:

Monopoly? Let's see here . . .

1. Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service.
2. Law. A right granted by a government giving exclusive control over a specified commercial activity to a single party.

Hmmm . . . let's count. Linux, Unix, three or four or five (at least) flavors of WYSIWYG desktop for each of those including a Windows interpreter (most of these are free by-the-way). Switching to the other hand: Mac's OS X, Lindows and Mac's Windows emulation. How does that make a monopoly? Because the press, who wouldn't understand a monopoly if it bit them in the a** said so doesn't make it so Johnny. Because a passel of politicians got mondo $$$$ from 3 of Microsoft's biggest competitors to "investigate" MS doesn't make it a monopoly either. Neither does seeing it written on a Mac blog. You sir, are free to put whatever operating system or productivity software on your machine that you desire. Who's stopping you? It sure isn't Microsoft.

Now, go back and read definition #2. Now that you were right about. Unions are a monopoly and, since joining the Demorat party over 50 years ago, have single handedly wiped out big American steel as well as the jobs and towns that relied on them. They are now working on (and damn near complete I might add) the American auto manufacturers. They killed public schools completely a few years ago and have hugely increased the cost of government with unsustainable over-the-top wage, retirement and medical packages. That's one a hell of a track record! I bet you're just proud as punch!

May I suggest "Basic Economics: A Citizens Guide to the Economy" and "Applied Economics: Thinking Beyond Stage One"? Both are by Thomas Sowell. Both are available on Amazon. Trust me buddy, you need the help.

13. I do hope someone runs this up the flag poll to the Supreme court, where this ruling gets what it deserves.
