Happy Mother's Day!

To all the mothers out there.

Mother's Day flowers

And, especially happy Mother's Day to new mother (and congresswoman) Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

Four weeks earlier than anticipated, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and husband Brian Rodgers welcomed the arrival of their son, Cole McMorris Rodgers.

He was born on Sunday at 3:14 a.m. at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Brian and I are overjoyed, said McMorris Rodgers in a statement.  Although he arrived early, both the baby and I are doing well and recovering at the hospital.  We look forward to soon being able to bring our son home."

(Long time readers may be expecting a mother duck on Mother's Day.  But this year I haven't spotted any along the Kirkland waterfront.  Here's my favorite from previous Mother's Days.  You can see a somewhat larger mother with her new baby here.  If you want a picture to save for your personal use, try this site — though I don't know how long the link will last.)

1. Happy Mothers Day to all mothers and to all those who are assuming that role to help bring up strong and healthy children.

2. Congratulations to Rep. McMorris! We should expect to be seeing an announcement of her replacement in the House soon.

After all, the duties and responsibilities of motherhood should take priority over mere politics as expressed so clearly by the readers of this blog in the case of Darcy Burner.

3. I'll take the bait John. I fully agree. She should step down for the sake of her child. I can't imagine that the congressional schedule allows for enough time for a mother to spend with a child, let alone a newborn. Maybe it is somehow workable if she can take her baby with her wherever she goes. I don't know how congressional travel works. If not, she should step down. I see daily how much time it takes to be a good parent of young children. Given my experience, I would say that it might be possible to still make it work on a local level, with may other sacrifices, but it seems impossible for a job like congresswoman that would require constant travel.

Save it for when the kids are more grown up and don't require almost constant nurturing.

All that said, congrats Rep. McMorris. Children are life's greatest joy.

4. I never said either woman should step down because they have children. Burner shouldn't have won because she is an idiot. Neither John/Ivan or Jeff knows Mc Morris' family situation. There are some parents in Congress already and in the case of Jessie Jackson Jr and his wife who has just been elected to the City Council in Chicago, her mother looks after the children. So, until either of you knows this woman's situation, put a zipper on it. By the way, John/Ivan, I am not voting for Hillary on the basis that she is a woman, it is her socialist ideology and they fact she supports hip hop thugs like Timbaline by keeping the $800,000 she raised from him. She is a lying secular progressive hip hop thug loving weasel. Gender has nothing to do with it.

5. I never said either woman should step down

Calm down. No one's out to get you. Just see your doctor and have your medication adjusted.

Rep. McMorris by clinging to her seat will serve neither her child, her family, her district or even herself very well by juggling too much. As Kate Hepburn famously quipped, "you can't have it all."

By the way, you seem to suffer a virulent animus towards "secular progressives". Perhaps you have a different opinion of "clerical progressives"?

6. John/Ivan:

Get your meds adjusted. That is sooo sexist. Aren't you dems about full inclusion of the "little people" women and "minorities." So, taking a page out of the Goebels handbook which you follow to the letter. Adjust your meds, how secular progressive lying weasel of you.

I don't know her situation, do you? Do you want to suggest that Rep. Jackson's wife should step down or any of the dem's should step down who are parents? I do know that the research indicates that a child should have a consistent caregiver. That caregiver can be either parent or another person. In many cultures caregivers come from the extended family. The reason that I distrust anything coming out of the mouth of a secular progressive is it is often not based on either facts or the truth. So, do you know about Mc Morris' situation and do you have any research to back up your statements?

7. Jeff B:

Agreeing with someone like John/Ivan is a waste of time. They care not a wit about Mc Morris' child. They are interested in getting that seat for a dem by any means necessary and if it means attacking Mc Morris as a new mother, sobeit. If she were replaced by a secular progressive who voted their way and their family fell apart and half their kids were in detention, you won't hear a peep out of John/Ivan because the crucial thing is that vote in the House. I sincerely wish all the parents of both parties well because it is a tough job. This faux concern is another thing, however.

8. Burner shouldn't have won because she is an idiot.

To serve in Congress one must have a well-trained musculature and every hair in place. One doesn't need frivolous accessories like an ability to think or project a coherent political message in public especially about such notions as "adequate intelligence".

9. and if it means attacking Mc Morris as a new mother, sobeit.

grin..

She claims she wants to be elected for the gratefully unaborted Henry, while she's clearly anxious to leave (ok let's say she has no qualms about leaving) the gratefully unaborted Henry behind... the two positions are mutually exclusive to any mother that takes motherhood seriously...

Just remember to vote for Riechert, maybe then Henry can be released from full time daycare to custody of his mom. Posted by: Huh? on October 30, 2006 07:22 AM

10. To the two moonbats John and Cheryl, I think in your concern for Mc Morris' baby, you were so concerned about the child's welfare, you didn't pick up on the correct name. Hint, it isn't Henry. Is that Burner's child's name and are your comments directed toward her?

11. In addition to medication for paranoia, apparently you need a smart pill as well.

The two quotes I provided above (after the one from you) were authored by long time SP commenters about Darcy Burner.

"clerical conservatives" perhaps?

12. Hey John,

I'll take my smarts over yours any day. You need a reason pill. The Goebels play book is not working for you.

13. The Goebels play book is not working for you.

Gee I hope not. Not that I've ever consulted it. I don't believe in things that are destructive and ultimately self-defeating.

The Goebels/Rove playbook has worked wonders for the Republicans as seen in the outcome of the last election. But I admit it did work to a point for the last 6 years or so and it works today to keep naifs like WVH in line and to line the pockets of its funders.

14. Hey Florida John,

You must be a new member of the collective. Others know that while I am conservative, I'm an indie, not pubbie. How is the weather in Florida and how is David et al doing? Oh, by the way, I give to ed causes so that children won't be swayed by your propoganda. Here is the Goebels
playbook you operate by:

The secular progressive argument is a bit like the Goebels disinformation campaign:

1. Insult demean or disparage any opponent
2. The big lie told over and over again
3. Never cite any facts from any source,
disparage any fact that is put forth, then
see point 2

So, John do you have any information to back
up your opinions, or is telling any form of the truth just too difficult for you?

15. You must be a new member of the collective.

Hah! I'm "new" and I must be Florida John. I guess I'm the new "old" or familiar Florida John.

Others know

Too bad for them.

the Goebels playbook you operate

It just might be me, but it seems you know this playbook so intimately that it's rubbed off on you - in a big way.

16. Hey Florida John,

Why don't we join in wishing all mothers the best and carry this discussion to the conservative thread.

17. Isn't it fascinating how some folks can take something as innocuous and full of good news as Cathy having a baby and turning it into a bash fest?
