One of my friends from the UK found it puzzling that we would name one of the states after King George (Georgia). I hastened to inform him that this was George II, not George III (!).

More soldiers died proportionately than in any other war, including the Civil War. It was a grind. There's a lot more to it than we are sometimes taught, especially that more of it happened in the South than many people realize.
