Declaration of Independence

Along with the other things you're doing to celebrate our nation's independence and enjoy our great blessings today, take a few minutes to read the Declaration of Independence.

Worth reposting here is the audio of last year's Sound Politics group reading of the Declaration. [Reader credits here]

Have a joyous and safe holiday.

1. An amazing document. Gives me the chills to read those inspiring words. Jefferson is the best, truly the Man of the Millenium.

Seems our colonial brethren had some serious issues with George III. One of my friends from the UK found it puzzling that we would name one of the states after King George (Georgia). I hastened to inform him that this was George II, not George III (!).

3. My special thanks to our Military and their Families, active & retired. YOU keep us free! I NEVER take you nor your service for granted. You protect our precious freedoms and our Nation.

And--a special thankful tear for those at rest in Arlington National & elsewhere--YOU are never forgotten!! Thank you.

This blogger's flag flies year-round, every day for the above.

4. Thanks for posting the Declaration!

Good Reading: saw a mention of Almost a Miracle in the Times today, bought it and it's great -- it is about how chancy and hard the Revolutionary War was. More soldiers died proportionately than in any other war, including the Civil War. It was a grind. There's a lot more to it than we are sometimes taught, especially that more of it happened in the South than many people realize.
Thank you to that generaton--have a happy 4th --

5. The irony, of course, is that the signers would be revolted by most of the behavior of the current POTUS.

Just Compare my ancestor vs the current occupant of TJ's house
TJ
Belief in impersonal deity and natural law. Corporations should not exist
Debt no debt
extra marital sex yes
wine yes

I'll take Jefferson.

6. Thomas H Jefferson:

Most likely they'd be revolted by the knee-jerk anti-America crowd.
