Embezzlement Magazine names Mrs. Gregoire "Fraud Artist of the Year"
Well, almost. Governing Magazine has Mrs. Gregoire on the cover of this year's "Public Officials of the Year" issue.
Most of all, Governing praises Gregoire for her commitment to (put down your beverage) openness in government:
After a year, even Republicans were conceding that Gregoire had brought state government a transparency it had never known before.
Oh, really?

1. When you demonize someone so much, it's hard to admit there is any good they do.

The dems have done this with Bush. You have done this with Gregoire.

It's sad. It makes the non-partisans among us wishing there fewer partisans. They impede, not improve things.

2. This ain't nothin folks, wait 'till Mrs Clinton takes over; you'all are gonna have fits. It's like you can't see the forest thru the trees. Hahaha!

3. Thats right Duffy...

If you are a tax paying, dirt owning, equity mortage holder, you will be having the fits right along with the best of us.

But since your not, to hell with you and your Socialist loving agenda's.

Take some personal responsibilty, and take care of your own. Those that do will still have to pick up the peices for those lazy souls who don't, but I guess you can always play the "I deserve it" card = Democrat Liberal and it feels so good.

4. We will have a Government to take care of us; so get with it or get out of the way. The day of the corporate protectorate is soon over and the trickle-down bull-shit will be a thing of the past. Because you're all probably either senior or baby boom generation you have these false beliefs and confidences in support of big business. Well, stand by for your social-security world to be 'rocked'; a new day is dawning.
New priorities will prevail; Bush will go down with the final legacy of the Repugs...FAILURE!
Better start thinkin 'outside' the corporate box, because if you don't you'll check out of this world one sorry disappointed individual.
Government will now be 'reinstated' in a model that was originally 'intended', not how it was 'molded' by big business and corporate greed.

5. Anyone who has ever requested records from Mrs. Gregoire's office knows this article is completely bunk. In fact, Gregoire has grossly expanded the number of "exemptions" available to state agencies under the public records statute.

And when it comes to public meetings, we know Gregoire's not anything close to a paragon of perfection there either. Think back to all of these supposed "deals" she's brokered on behalf of the state (tribes, unions, viaduct--oh, wait, never mind, etc). Where have they taken place?

Behind closed doors, conveniently out of the public eye. Why? Because that way Gregoire is free to give her campaign donors and political allies whatever she feels like. This story couldn't look like more of a "plant." I bet it was ghost written by one of Mrs. Gregoire's staffers (as Don Ward dubs it, journalism by press release).

6. Duffy

I can't wait for your dream world to begin.

I will sit back with the "dirt" I own, and drive by daily smiling glibly at your sorry " I am a victim" ass.

Don't be ashamed, just find a differnt corner each day, and you will find plenty of Liberal suckers to fill your "cup".

But not me.....Take care of your own first, and the rest will follow.

Transparency? Yep, Gregoire's vote fraud fueled election is a plain as day and the complete lack of substance of her and her long time cronies stands out like a boil on the nose of Paris Hilton.

10. WOW! A magazine whose readership are government officials and which exists solely for the purpose of advancing fraud as usual in government.

11. Another leftwing rag. What else is new ? It looks rather rocky for the R's running for election.

As for Hillary, another debate performance like the other night will put her in the vulnerable category - perhaps even in her own party. It must be emphasized that Bill would not be governing and we all know that she wants income redistribution and is more stridently leftist than Bill and her policies will be worse. She is alot like Bush in that she cannot admit she is wrong when it is apparent to a majority of Americans.

It is also abundantly clear, trying to nail her down for her stand on illegal immigrants getting driver's licenses in NY is like nailing jello to a tree. Gregoire is merely Hill's counterpart - the wicked witch from the west.

14. You neo-cons should all pray that Hillary gets the nom for the Dems. The Republican Party is staying up late at night, working their butts off to review the Clinton years and get embarrassing stuff on Hills. If she gets the nom, the Republican spin machine will go on full tilt crazy to pillory her on TV, radio and in the print media.

I'd say that an evil strategy like that is the only chance the Reps have to hold on to the White House. Hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

15. And Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize. There will never be a shortage of sycophantic left wing media.

I know someone who saw Gregoire in action behind closed doors for quite a while. She's not the persona conveyed in this article. And she's anything but open.

17. Fraudoire cheats into office and then gets lauded for "openness", yet refuses to release records concerning the formation of the "Sunshine Committee". The irony couldn't be more ironic, no?

BTW, since it's Halloween time, I guess that magazine cover is appropriate. Downright scary. Who'd be inclined to buy it with that picture staring out at you? What an ugly croaker...

18. "Bitter sore losers"

Ah hahahahahahahaha

If you remember correctly, we were the winners the first two counts. It took a few hundred mysterious ballots to take "Landslide Gregoire" over the top.

I love it when you forget history like that. It's so...refreshing to realize that some high school dropouts have access to keyboards.

19. I really don't mind that a magazine that is "Of the Government, By the Government and For the Government" would select Gregoire as a poster child. I would ask that no State funds be used to purchase subscribtions to such a publication.

I hear next months issue of " The Modern Collectivist" is going to have her on the cover as well.

Posted by: Smokie on November 2, 2007 06:59 AM
20. Somehow, I have this picture of ivan sitting back, fat belly, legs on table, smoking a stogie, counting his new money Gregoire got him and in his union office and saying, "Everybody knows that she is a terrific governor except for you bitter sore losers. I just can't get it out of my mind.

Posted by: AP on November 2, 2007 09:12 AM
22. Swatter,

There was a huge crowd in Olympia in January 2005 that was simply demanding to know why King County could not reconcile the number of votes with the number of voters, why there were so many last minute provisionals counted, the same one's the Stefan later proved were counted improperly, etc. This crowd was made up of random citizens from all over the state.

Opposite the huge crowd there was an opposing crowd. It was much smaller, and it was made up almost entirely of union workers like Ivan who were paid to be there looking like they were credible opposition to the honest folks who still don't have good confidence in King Counties election procedures.

23. Governing magazine has no credibility. This is the same magazine that named Gov. Bob Riley of Alabama its Public Official of the Year in 2003 after the overwhelmingly rejected his $1.2 billion tax increase proposal. People in the business are still chuckling about that one. So it's clear what Governing values in governors. The editor, Peter Harkness, is a committed liberal who misses few opportunities to slam President Bush and Republican policies. This award is only slightly less risible than the one they gave to Riley, and should be taken about as seriously as that one was.

http://www.tacomaweekly.com/article/1135

Yip, yip , yip & yahoo cried all who were gathered at the "American Public Works Association" APWA annual meeting where this buffoon was handed their highest honor. This was after yours truly had provided them with a run down of what the City of Tacoma has degenerated into, thanks to the Public Works maintenance budgets in every section being raided for millions and the spoils transfered into accounts used to add value to private development projects by this flea bag. This guy presided over a Public Works Department in which State Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax revenues - remitted to the City to be used for "transportation related maintenance and improvements" was squandered on such things as fake potted palm plants, rehabilitating the mayor's alley, placing sidewalk in front of council member's and various department head's real estate, banners and beautification of Council member Bill Evans and Kevin Phelps business interests and on and on and on. A prize from this and other like organizations is as meaningful as the plaques and monuments that were liberally spread around the former Soviet Union commemorating everything and anything. Their praise means NOTHING, it is nonsense. PERIOD.

28. Yea Swatter, that is why I tried to derail the one outlined above. I know that they are served up to feed the least intelligent and uninformed among us, but the morons vote still counts regardless of what they base it on. This APWA hands out awards like pepper from a shaker, they are nothing but a bunch of leftists, but to the public these awards imply merit. Take a look at the littany of APWA awards Tacoma's Economic Development staff have rec'd and compare it to what the City has done to provide quality and value for the dollar to Tacoma residents and the contrast is enlightening.

Sure, Gregoire is not evil incarnate. Everything she does is not terrible. But openness in government ... criminy. This is easily one of her worst of many bad areas. From the aforementioned terrible joke that is Sunshine committee, to the Government Secrecy Protection Act, erm, journalism shield law, that she gladly signed ... her record, frankly, sucks.

There must be something wrong with your hearing.

The contrast between the 2000 presidential and the 2004 gubernatorial elections couldn't be clearer.

The more information that comes out about the 2000 election, the clearer it is that Gore lost.

The more information that comes out about the 2004 election (most of it, mind you, in the form of official KC Elections records), the clearer it is that mistakes, errors, and wrongdoing by KCE officials fatally compromised the election, and, in all likelihood, cost Rossi the governorship.

Sort of reminds me of that Conservative mob that got bussed down to Florida during the Florida election debacle in 2000. They were paid to be there too, they even had handmade signs created for them so it looked authentic. All they had to do was get on the bus and cause a ruckus on cue (ie. when the cameras were turned on them).

48. Andy @ 46, does it matter? They're both extremely secretive. I find it amusing people here chiding Gregoire's secrecy but totally ignoring the Bush administrations extreme secrecy.

The double standard here seems to apply equally to both parties equally.

Posted by: Cato on November 2, 2007 04:41 PM
49. Well it does matter- in one case, the secrecy pertains to not giving the upper hand to people who want to kill thousands of Americans while the other pertains EVERYTHING but matters of personal safety/privacy/security.

Given the number of "emergency" bills passing by Gregoire's desk, you should thank your lucky stars Bush doesn't fail the yard stick to the same degree Gregoire does----else the KGB would have already come and disappeared many of us dissenters for "emergency" security purposes.

Maybe when you show me where in the Constitution it guarantees the use of all your land. At least I can point to which amendment is being broken.

Why is this my fault? You should have scoped your property out for wetlands BEFORE you bought it. It's not the Govt's fault your an idiot or to cheap to hire a surveyor.

Posted by: Cato on November 3, 2007 12:18 PM
59. Hey Catbox, back in 1941 when my dad bought the place, we didn't have a problem with Government changing it's mind about land use in rural areas.

And for your information, we didn't have any wetlands on our property, we simply had not developed it and now we never will be able to. You really are a reactionary little idiot aren't you Catbox. The fact is your buddies Ron, Dow and Dwight stole the ability for property owners such as myself to have a reasonable use of 65% of our land. So until you can appreciate a REAL taking of real property by a government, don't expect us to give your whiney little diatribes about the theoretical loss "personal freedoms" any weight.

60. The fact is your buddies Ron, Dow and Dwight stole the ability for property owners such as myself to have a reasonable use of 65% of our land.

Not my buddies. These are all publicly elected officials. Don't like 'em, then vote the bums out. Beside, you are guaranteed the right "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" by the lovely firs amendment. You are the Govt, if you don't like the way it's run, get elected to public office and change it. I'm sure you'd have a lot of support from your fellow landowners who eager to promote sprawl to all areas and then complain when the Govt. doesn't build enough roads to support the growth.

Posted by: Cato on November 4, 2007 08:21 AM
61. My representative to the King County Council voted against the CAO. Ron Sims sued to keep a referendum on the CAO from going before the voters (How Democratic of him)who were actually impacted, So much for our "right to petition". I work for change every day. As to your sprawl accusation I simply point you to Ron and friends again authorizing development in a rural area less than 10 years ago on Novelty Hill Road. It is less than 2 miles from my property and yet when the project was found to be in violation of the County's own concurrency standards, the employees that found the violation were fired and a more "agreeable" finding for the developers was submitted. Those are the people you are aligned with Catbox.

A more recent example can be found in Maple Valley where Ron and Company are turning a Golf Course and a county shop facility into 2,000 housing units without talking to the city which completely surrounds the site. The County negotiated with a single developer (Yarrow Bay), no public bid process for the property by declaring a "unique circumstance". The County in essence will be adding 30% to the population of Maple Valley, keeping all of the Development Money for itself and will not be adding any additional transportation infrastructure to move these new people to the employment centers at least 20 miles away. Mighty anti-sprawl of them isn't it?
