I Got My Schrammie

I finally got my Schrammie! For the complete story, see the original song that Ken Schram hated (called "Osama Bin Laden, You Ruined My Birthday"), listen to the studio version of the song, and watch Schram give me my award. Then finally, watch my acceptance speech.

I wrote the song in this video, "New Year," many years ago, and break it out around this time every year. You can listen to the studio version. You may not understand all the lyrics if you learned math in Washington public schools.

Happy New Year ... or whatever.

1. Yes, lol, it WAS funny that Shram really didn't "get" this whole song thing from the beginning.

2. Funny, because I just posted this same video in my obligatory New Year's post on the Public Blog.

3. Happy New Year!

So, pudge, are you now going to be a regular contributor to this site?

4. pffffbt.

5. Happy New Year to all - prosperity, health, success to all the SoundPolitics posters and readers.

6. Hey whatever happened to Stefan? Did aliens abduct him? Sorry folks, until I get an answer, I am going to keep asking.

Posted by: pbj on January 1, 2008 12:17 PM
7. Last I heard Stefan say, he was just going on a winter break. I assume that's still the case. No biggie, as far as I can tell.

Posted by: pudge on January 1, 2008 12:22 PM
8. Btw, I just read that New Hampshire has just broken a 131-year old record for most snow ever in December. As Stefan might say,

"I blame global warming."
(perhaps Al Gore has been spending most of last month in NH, unbeknownedst to the rest of us?)

9. We should have sent Schramm to LA and kept Suits here!

He could still be reporting on his ex seattle Election director Dean the Crook Logan first hand in LA.

Posted by: GS on January 1, 2008 02:21 PM
10. Yeah, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to do that to KFI LA. :-)

Funny (to me) that John (Carlson) and Ken (Schram) have Bryan's old slot, and now Bryan follows the REAL John and Ken down in LA. I loved listening to John and Ken when I lived in LA mumble years ago.

11. I know I've heard Schramm laugh a couple times, so somewhere in his whining liberal core there's a sense of humor. Maybe it's a laugh-coach he has.
And Michele, speaking of Algore, I saw an Occidental Petro commercial on the tube the other day and wondered if he still has stock in that company. I wonder if they're holding any patents to refine corn or sugar or B.S....

Posted by: PC on January 1, 2008 02:46 PM
12. I wonder if any of his patents will run his Gas guzzling Private Gulf Stream Jet or any of his exotic 3 to 4 home life style.

Until Al starts leading by example, we'll leave the 60 watt incandescent lights on the porch on for him.

13. Using Stefan's nifty voter database, I only find two Nandor listings in the entire state -- Christopher G. Nandor and Jennifer L. Nandor (same address in Snohomish County, so I assume they are married). And Christopher G. Nandor wasn't born on September 11 -- actually sometime in July. Looks like mid-30's -- probably correct age for "Pudge".

So do I have the wrong Chris Nandor, or is this September 11 birthday stuff completely made up?

By the way -- does Ken Schram actually send out the Schrammie dolls anymore? I haven't gotten mine yet.

14. Richard Pope: I noted in the description for the song, "I wrote this song. It is not autobiographical." Does that answwer your question sufficiently? :-)

And yes, I actually got my Schrammie. I showed it in the video.

15. You're quite talented, Chris.

You might also want to share with your readers the remarkable success of the GOP Debate Song (Live), which is being featured on YouTube worldwide right now - #6 in News & Politics worldwide - and has three-quarters of a million views...

Posted by: Darcy Burner on January 1, 2008 03:54 PM
16. "Darcy": I find it hard to believe you are actually Darcy Burner, but thanks for the compliment regardless. And yes, most people here know of the GOP Debate Song, which was featured live on CNN at the opening of the GOP Debate in November.

Even Ken Schram congratulated me for that! :-)

17. *laugh*

I guess I'm a little surprised at your skepticism. Do you think I don't read Sound Politics? Or that I wouldn't freely acknowledge your talent?

I'm notorious for following blogs; why would I read only the left-leaning ones? (Like Toby Nixon, I'm more broadly-read than just my side.)

And I was raised in a Republican household; you actually remind me of my youngest brother, who is both a great guy and a Republican.

But I'd be happy to prove it's me offline, if you'd like.

18. I don't think Darcy Burner would post a comment on Sound Politics. And if she would, I would think someone in her campaign would tell her it is ... unwise. :-) I've seen candidates get into online discussions before, and it's never good for them, though I suppose if you stay out of actual arguments, you should be fine. That's where it tends to turn ugly.

But I don't need proof, as it doesn't really matter to me: I'm in the 2nd CD anyway. :D

Also, I don't follow "blogs" in general. I don't regularly read any political web sites at all, except for Sound Politics. It's not that I don't read one side or another; I tend to just ignore the web sites, which mostly act as mere noise machines, on all sides. Sound Politics is, for me, an exception, because these are people I actually work side-by-side with in real life to accomplish real goals.

19. "why would I read only the left-leaning ones?" Because people to the left of Lenin find it impossible to consider other views? Because Burner's lack of knowledge and rampant leftist positions on the issues is legendary? Because Burner would be dealing with the fact she'd represent the 8th, and not downtown Seattle? Why, the list of reasons is essentially endless.

That said, after the thread hijack:

Puuuuu-uuudge! Puuuuu-uuuudge! Puuuuu-uuuudge!

Posted by: Hinton on January 1, 2008 04:42 PM
20. While I don't think I agree with Hinton about why Darcy Burner wouldn't *read* right-wing sites, I do think Hinton gives a great example about why Darcy Burner *posting* on Sound Politics is a bad idea. :D

Lift that lighter high, Hinton!

21. Deb Eddy used to post on here and she came across as a reasonable person, even though she admittedly stole yard signs, which should be a capital crime in my opinion.

Anyway, I believe it was Darcy. And I bet she's a wonderful, friendly person. Just with toxic, nasty politics. But isn't that the one lesson every conservative has to learn in Seattle? There are genuinely good people all around us who just happen to be afflicted with this awful mental disorder. We need to forgive them and move on in the spirit of compassion and brotherhood. :D

22. The email address shows that it was from someone at Darcy Burner's campaign. If she reads this, she probably pays little attention to the views that oppose hers, judging by her previous campaign statements. I would challenge her to debate her leftwing ideas over here and get a dose of reality...

BTW (pudge)- I can't stand Tim McCarver either.

Posted by: KS on January 1, 2008 05:06 PM
23. KS: anyone can enter any e-mail address they want.

And yeah, McCarver is just terrible. :-)

24. So how come "GOP Debate Song (Live)", featuring handsome Pudge in person, gets 751,108 views, and "GOP Debate Song", with its really great slide show of candidates and other graphics, gets only 23,181 views?

The most popular YouTube video containing "Darcy Burner", "Darcy Burner on the FISA Bill", only gets 20,968 views?

Okay, Pudge wrote a really cute debate song, but why do more than 30 times as many people want to see Pudge in person, as opposed to the really neat graphics and slide show that Pudge wrote to accompany his really cute debate song?

Posted by: Richard Pope on January 1, 2008 09:05 PM
25. Richard Pope: simple. The "Live" one is the one that was on the front page of YouTube for a week, and then shown live on CNN during the opening of the GOP debate in November. The other one wasn't. :-)

As to why they chose that one to put on the front page of YouTube and show on TV, my guess is because they thought it was more personal, which is what they are trying to push in the debate stuff, the idea of normal citizens just making videos in their homes etc., which doesn't come through as readily in the "slide show" version.

26. Pudge, Burner's bucking to get you to quit your side and go work for her campaign, writing her "campaign theme song", or something like that. har har

...after which she will raise your taxes. (boo)

27. Those posts couldn't POSSIBLy be from Darcy. The proof? There isn't a single reference to George Bush in a single one of em.

Posted by: pbj on January 2, 2008 06:52 AM
28. pbj, LOL, that's just funny. :D

Posted by: pudge on January 2, 2008 08:24 AM
29. pbj has a good point.

Posted by: Michele on January 2, 2008 01:08 PM
30. Well, I'll tell you this, if I was Darcy Burner, I would read sound politics. And if I was Dave Reichert, I would read HA. Only when bored, of course. But still - it was new years; nothing was open.

And if Darcy were to post, wouldn't that be exactly the type of thing she'd say? It seemed very deliberately disarming... Almost like, aww shucks, guys, you shouldn't hate lil ole ME.. :)
