A Random Interlude

1) Trumping their already impressive array of entries into the bonehead hall-of-fame, this incident involving TSA sets a new benchmark for raw stupidity in the performance of one's duties (AP story here).

2) This man is F-A-S-T. Owning nine of the top twelve performances ever in the NCAA's premier sprint swimming event, including setting the top two tonight? Not bad.

We'll see you at the Olympics, sir (he's swimming for Brazil).

P.S. Atta boy Tar Heels. Husky fans salute you.

1. Husky fans (at least around our office, and there are many) were pullin for the 'Cougs...weren't you?

2. I took an informal poll at work, and 5 out of 6 Husky fans said they'd be supporting the Cougs, as part of their "if the Huskys are out, support the northwest or support the Pac 10" .

I don't think anyone's crying in Huskyland over the cougs demise, but come on, who wants to see North Carolina roll another opponent, unless they're your only number 1 pick left and you're trying to salvage your bracket.

4. Duff -

I'm a longtime Tar Heel fan on top of a born and bred Western WA soul. So, no. Can't say that I was.

5. Fair 'nuff! ;) Are we about to experience another Mark Spitz at next Olympics (albeit f/Brazil)?

6. Eric: I was wondering how these two stories connected, but I think I see where you might be going with all this...

1) Brazilian super-swimmer boards plane for Beijing...

2) Swimmer "runs afoul" (wink, wink) of the TSA switching planes at LAX, is turned back...

3) USA brings home the gold medals!

Coincidence? You Decide...

7.
They said she had them for "many years". Sagging issues aside, don't some people realize that the 90s are over? I mean, when is a tattoo on the back not sexy any more? It's like those ex-hippies who kept wearing elephant bell bottoms into the early 80s.

The dream is over...Kurt Cobain ain't coming back grungers.

8. The AP story:
"After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove," Allred said in the letter.

I'm assuming Gloria Allred can attest to this from personal experience?

10. Simply remove the metal--I don't care where it's attached. It's for my safety not her's.

12. Now how do you know that her boobs weren't really hand grenades and when she pulled the pins...?
Duh, suicide bomber.

13. One time I hid a bomb in my nipple.

I'm curious why removing a piercing would be required. Maybe they just want to be able to scan you without hearing the beep? What if someone has a steel pin in their leg or something?

14. Now you know why some of us call it "homeland stupidity".

I feel soooooo safe knowing that they did this for me, while allowing 10K folks over our southern border every night. Now, if just 1/100Th of a percent were terrorists..........

15. The Cougs "couged" it against a team that will probably be in the Championship game. I think the Husky fans pulled more against the Ducks, when they lost to Mississippi State last weekend.

The other side of it was that Duck fans were equally happy to see the Huskies lose to Valpo in the CBI tournament first round game.

16. "After nipple rings are inserted, the skin can often heal around the piercing, and the rings can be extremely difficult and painful to remove," Allred said in the letter."

The woman clearly had a mental disorder to have the boob rings inserted in the first place and perhaps even a hidden death wish to be a suicide bomber...

17. It is not Raw Stupidity at all. It is deliberate willful abuse of Power. It is sexual assault and gaining sadistic pleasure from causing pain and humiliation. These people should immediately be brought under charges of criminal acts against a citizen. There are people who seek various positions to enable themselves the opportunity to strut their stuff. Strutting their stuff means, to unnecessarily bully and commit personal abuse upon others. You will find all kinds of egregious acts against people and most by far, come from Government officials who almost all are never held accountable. The Greatest Enemy of the People is Excessive Unaccountable Big Government. You want more of the Same?......Vote Democrat!

18. #17 - What about terrorists who wear the nipple rings or have a bomb strapped under what they are wearing ? We live in the age of stupidity and your response shows no discernment.

Democrats have morphed into the party of unaccountability and big government, like you disdain - so why vote for more what you disdain ? Bush is schizophrenic - part Democrat part Republican, showing unaccountability and inclined toward big government. Those who have a deep hatred for Bush should look in the mirror, because he likes big government like they do - so there is self-hatred here, impaired judgment along with the likely need to get back on your meds.

19. KS.....You Suffer from a simplistic appraisal of the situation dealing with pierced nipples. It is not the pierced nipples that are the threat. Pierced nipples does not mean terrorist. Pierced nipples are a common fashion statement where, unusual precautions need not be taken. These TSA officials were taking the opportunity to do Dirt on a Citizen, plain and simple. Get it? As far as Voting for Bigger Government, both parties are guilty of expanding Big Government but, the Democrats will expand Big Government with far greater Speed with no hope of creating smaller Government. You Vote for the party where their is some hope of bringing the Expansion of Government under control and just maybe, reducing Government.

20. "It is not the pierced nipples that are the threat. Pierced nipples does not mean terrorist. Pierced nipples are a common fashion statement where, unusual precautions need not be taken."

Metal detectors could detect a strapped on bomb that has detectable metal in the nipple area. You have to admit that those who choose to have the rings there are masochistic and into self-mutilation and the height of self-mutilation is being a suicide bomber. Granted the TSA is not discretionary and another part of the bureaucracy that needs to be overhauled, but my comment centered around the type of individual who would pierce their boobs at the nipple - desire to be a freaky hetero or accentuate being lesbian ? Whatever... but whoever does that will have to live with the consequences that could be emotionally as well as physically painful.
