Dean Logan, Is That You?

Anyone still watching the cable networks at this hour from the lovely environs of the Puget Sound is noting that Lake County, Indiana is confirming that King County does not have a monopoly on aggravating election night performance.

It's probably a bad thing when the Wolf Blitzers, Anderson Coopers, and John Kings of the world are saying, in more polite terms, "what the [bleep] is your problem? You're not making any sense!"

The Mayor of Hammond, from Lake County is befuddled too. He says his town's votes were tallied at 7:30 pm local time but can't understand why the county hasn't reported them yet. Meanwhile, his compatriot from Gary, Indiana can't seem to explain why no one could figure out how to count the electronically tallied poll votes until after they go through a laborious hand count of the ballots cast before today. He implies it would disenfranchise those early voters if they were to not count them that way.

Um, ok. Got it. Must do the hand count before you check the voting machines. Makes perfect sense...probably on some other planet, but I'm sure it does somewhere.

1. Just listened to Clinton's post-IN-NC speech.
As expected, she's not throwing in the towel; and she emphasized counting MI and FL again...

So yeah: IMO this will likely still drag on at least thru the last sked primary, even though there is no way she can catch up in pledged delegates.

2. ...and to think that the democrats actually want government-run health care. Would YOU want these incompetents running your health care?? They can't even count ballots.

I can see it now,

4. Better yet, we could hope that Obama feels that he was cheated in Indiana (maybe he was maybe, he wasn't)and files a lawsuit to have a recount of the Indiana ballots, thus not only proloning the primary fight but taking it to the next level.

7. Mrs Clinton, as I told your campaign folks you would do well to go on Rush's Show. You had O'Reilly all flustered and I'm sure you'd do the same for Rush...he's infatuated with you.
With his big audience you could focus on the need to get Michigan and Florida back into the fray of vote counting, which is something you need, now more than ever. I told your staff that your 'tanacity' is very appealing to many across this nation and the way you tackle things 'head on' is admirable. Sen Obama is trying to coast, he seems tired and desperately wants this to be over while you (much like the EverReady bunny)energeticly keep on going...and going. I also mentioned that this prolonged affair is not necessarily hurting the Democratic Party but conversly with all of the new voters being attracted may well help significantly in the fall. I hope you keep on fighting - this doesn't have to be over, despite the pundits predictions and math calculations. I know the super delegates are beholding to you and thus they just need reasonable justification to head your way.
I'm very proud of you!

25. I guess the Democratic party will need to come up with a new name if they plan to disenfrachise 17+ million voters in Florida and 10+ million voters in Michigan.

Any suggestions Cato?

Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 09:21 AM
26. Sure..."Throw the bums out".

The state legislatures were well aware of the rules before they changed the dates. Michigan was all the Democrats fault, In Florida's case it was a purposeful attempt by Gov. Crist the GOP to disenfranchise Democrat voters. Both legislatures should be taken to task for their irresponsibility.

They should have taken the GOP strategy of giving them half their delegates, I'm sure they will find a way to compromise in the end. Funny, I don't see you complaining about the GOP disenfranchising 13.5 million voters by only allowing only half the state delegates to be seated...not to mention half the state of New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wyoming. Ironic isn't it.

In the meantime I'm surprised Duffman does not feel slighted that Clinton doesn't want to count his vote...after all he lives in a Caucus state which are supposedly run by "Democrat activists" who are out to destroy Clinton. =P

29. Well, at least penalizing the states by limiting them to half of their delegates is a little more Democratic and less draconian than the "scorched earth" policy that the Dems have employed....don'tcha think?

I'll bet you also think Dr. Dean is doing a bang up job as head of that 3 ring circus you call a party too, right?

Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 10:54 AM
30. I agree that it is rather draconian but it seems the GOP has disenfranchised a far greater number of voters than the Dem's have. I believe a compromise will be reached, Dr. dean has stated they will be seated. I imagine they will end up splitting the delegates 50-50.

Looks like both parties decided that the party line overruled the states rights to hold their party primaries. I've seen it argued many times on here that the national political parties are private entities and should pay to host the election vote. If so don't you think the national chapter should have the right to decide the primary schedule?

In the end Dean's way sent a much stronger message to the states but ir ended up nipping him in the but 6mo later when a clear nominee had not arisen from the fray.

Who's to say that if Giuliani had won FL he would not have used the same tactic?

Posted by: Cato on May 7, 2008 11:08 AM
31. "...it seems the GOP has disenfranchised a far greater number of voters than the Dem's have."

More you say??

Population of Wy- 515,000
Population of NJ- 8.7 mill.
Population of SC- 4.3 mill.

nope....still doesn't add up to 27 million. I guess this is why the WASL didn't go over so well in this state.

Some people think Half of a sum number is less than zero.

Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 11:39 AM
32. Let's see...if one disenfranchises the voters of 5 states rater than 2 it's somehow less than 2? How does that work? Last I checked 5 > 2.

It also depends how we are counting? Are we only counting registered party voters or general population?

35. Oh, I see now...it's how many states?

It's however you want to count it. Either way the political party sets the rules, not myself. I'm not a member of either party or the rules committee.

Will you be arguing that private corporations are not allowed to set the rules to host their own votes?

Posted by: Cato on May 7, 2008 12:13 PM
36. Cato~ it's your measure that you put out there. You mistakenly said the Republicans had disenfrachised a far greater number of voters than the Dem's have.

2008 Democratic Delegates- (after penalty by DNC)
Florida- 0
Michigan- 0

2008 Republican Delegates (after penalty by RNC)
Florida- 57
S.Carolina - 24
Michigan- 30
New hampshire - 12
Wyoming -12

Hmmm.....sounds like one party is still at least allowing state representation. Either way you slice it, the Dems are the disenfranchisers in this whole mess.

Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 12:26 PM
37. You mistakenly said the Republicans had disenfranchised a far greater number of voters than the Dem's have.

You telling me that the combined registered voter populations of FL, SC, MI, NH, & WY cut in half comes out to less than or equal to the total registered voter populations of FL, MI?

I don't think the voters of those states would like the fact they somehow are lesser states than FL & MI.

Either way you slice it, the Dems are the disenfranchisers in this whole mess.

Haha, so your saying it's OK to break the rules just to make your state seem more important than the rest of the country who patiently waits their turn? What kind of message does that send to the children? Cut in line, it's OK because you are so much more important that everyone else. That sounds like you have a fledgling endorsement for Communism if I ever heard one. You a pinko Ricky?

Both parties had consequences for breaking the rules that the legislatures of all states were well aware of. You break the rules, you pay the price. Trying to whine you were disenfranchised after you knowingly & purposefully broke the rules doesn't cut it in my book. Like I said originally, throw the bums out.

Posted by: Cato on May 7, 2008 12:52 PM
38. Re: MI & FL
Let me repeat. It doesn't matter any more. Obama can give Hillary the full amount of delegates that she won and Obama the remainder. In fact, in running the numbers, it would bring him just about as close to clinching than right now. The only catch would be the other candidates, mainly Edwards releasing their MI and FL delegates.

Current Status:
Obama needs 180 to win (based on RCP current total of 1845)

Add in MI (157 Delegates - Hillary 55%, Obama 45%)
Add in FL (211 Delegates - Hillary 50%, Obama 50%)

Total needed for nomination = 2025 + 1/2*368 = 2209

Obama w/MI & FL = 1845 + 71 (MI) + 105 (FL) = 2021
Obama needed to win = 188

Now for the remaining contests (w/% assumed):
WV (28, 60% Clinton, 40% Obama) = Obama+11
Oregon (52, 57% Obama, 43% Clinton) = Obama+30
KY (51, 55% Clinton, 45% Obama) = Obama+23
PR (55, 55% Clinton, 45% Obama) = Obama+25
MT (16, 60% Obama, 40% Clinton) = Obama+10
SD (15, 60% Obama, 40% Clinton) = Obama+9
Total additional Pledged Delegates for Obama 108. Total supers needed = 72-80.

39. Cato~ you've lost the argument already.

I've done the math for you and at this point if you can't figure it out, I can't help ya bro.

the bottom line is the Republican haven't disenfranchised any state.....every state has Republican delegate representation. It's the Democrats that have provided Michigan and Florida with Zero DEMOCRAT DELEGATE representation. Agreed?

40. You seems to keep arguing that you believe some states are more important than others because they cut in line Ricky. Sounds like the reasoning of a communist sympathizer to me. You a pinko Ricky?

every state has Republican delegate representation.

Guess what, in the end every state will have a Democrat delegation too. Isn't it amazing that private entities can change the rules to admit delegations after the fact. WOW! How about that. 50-50, 60-40, it won't matter, Obama will still eb the Dem nominee. The GOP seemed to realize it a lot earlier than his opponent has.

BTW, Gingrich is predicting GOP defeat come November. N

Now if the GOP looses in 2008 does that make Bush a good or bad President?

Total double standard on the GOP part...so in addition to loosing the hispanic vote, the black vote, and the catholic vote, which voting block will McCain loose next?

61. @58: It's always a sign you've won an arguement when one person fails to respond to the issue and begins random nonsensical personal attacks on the other. It's also S.O.P. for Republicans these days since they've long given up on any principaled 'conservative' ideals. For the record, I am a registered voter and have voted in every presidential election since I was 18 (voting for Reagan in his second term), but I don't like either party any longer honestly... mostly because both sides are filled with partisan simpletons like you.

And Rick, Hagee has not apologized for the comments. In fact, he has repeated them again in recent weeks. And McCain is still proud to have his endorsement.

Please try again.

Posted by: Splinter on May 8, 2008 10:25 AM
62. Splinter~ sorry to hurt your feelings by implying you aren't registered to vote. I never realized that elevated to a personal attack, but I guess some people are a little more, shall we say "sensitive" to things than others.

you said @ 61 that "Hagee has not apologized for the comments." which is not correct. Here is an excerpt from his apology:

"As a believing Christian, I see the hand of God in everything that happens here on earth, both the blessings and the curses," Hagee said in a statement issued through his public relations firm. "But ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise. No matter what the cause of the storm, my heart goes out to all who suffered in this terrible tragedy. There but for the grace of God go any one of us."

During a Thursday visit to New Orleans neighborhoods still recovering from the hurricane, McCain repudiated Hagee's comments about Katrina. "It's nonsense," he told reporters. "

Hmm. sounds like an apology to me and a repudiation from McCain. Now, where is Reverend Wright's apology for his 35 years of hate speech?? will you be posting it Splinter?

Posted by: Rick D. on May 8, 2008 10:56 AM
63. Right....McCain says "its nonsense" nine different times, followed almost immediately by, "I'm glad to have his endorsement"... hmmmm. He rejects the statements but embraces the person and his endorsement. Again, why the double standard here?

And where in your excerpt is Hagee apologizing for suggesting 9/11 was a result of sinful behavior in America (blame America first if I ever heard it)? He says he can't know the mind of God regarding Katrina... but then just yesterday he says this:

>>>When a woman on the call asked why he seemed to have backed away from his Katrina comments in face of criticism, Hagee said he hadn't. As for the Katrina, he said, God controls hurricanes and "God always punishes unconfessed sin." You do the math.
http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/05/hagee.html

And we haven't even gotten into Hagee's notion that America should bomb Iran to help bring on the second coming of Christ, or referring to the Pope as the anti-christ. Has he "apologized" for these positions too?

Sorry, but if Obama is going to be raked over the coals and be forced to disown anyone that says something stupid and "unamerican", then McCain should be held to the same standard.

Oh, and have you seen the latest on McCain's "Spiritual Guide" Rod Parsley? The man who thinks the Islamic religion should be destroyed completely?
http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2008/05/john-mccain-rod-parsley-pastor-problem.html

Honestly, if the Republicans are going to pander to these nut jobs, it really is pretty stupid to be trying to make an issue out of the liberal religios nut jobs.

Posted by: Splinter on May 8, 2008 11:36 AM

A: No

Did Hagee baptize any of McCains Children?

A: No

Did McCain use a phrase in one of Hagee's sermons and use it as the title of his book?

A: No

Has McCain ever referred to Hagee as his "spiritual advisor", "uncle" or "mentor"?

A: No

Only the mentally infirm are capable of tying McCain to Hagee to the same extent as Obama to his nutty old Pastor Wright.

Did Obama ever say "I can no sooner disown pastor Wright than I could my own white Grandmother"

A: Yes

But nice try fellas.

Cheers!

66. The Obamaphiles are getting real desperate and really angry. I can't wait till this thing goes to Denver and they pull the rug out from under him and choose Hillary (who's a more qualified candidate).

Oh, the hollering, screaming and gnashing of teeth that will ensue when that eventuality happens.

Recreate '68! I'll be over here with my buttered popcorn.
