Anyone still watching the cable networks at this hour from the lovely environs of the Puget Sound is noting that Lake County, Indiana is confirming that King County does not have a monopoly on aggravating election night performance.
It's probably a bad thing when the Wolf Blitzers, Anderson Coopers, and John Kings of the world are saying, in more polite terms, "what the [bleep] is your problem? You're not making any sense!"
The Mayor of Hammond, from Lake County is befuddled too. He says his town's votes were tallied at 7:30 pm local time but can't understand why the county hasn't reported them yet. Meanwhile, his compatriot from Gary, Indiana can't seem to explain why no one could figure out how to count the electronically tallied poll votes until after they go through a laborious hand count of the ballots cast before today. He implies it would disenfranchise those early voters if they were to not count them that way.
Um, ok. Got it. Must do the hand count before you check the voting machines. Makes perfect sense...probably on some other planet, but I'm sure it does somewhere.
Posted by Eric Earling at May 06, 2008 10:18 PM | Email ThisSo yeah: IMO this will likely still drag on at least thru the last sked primary, even though there is no way she can catch up in pledged delegates.

Posted by: Army Medic/Vet on May 7, 2008 07:17 AMThe dem party is going to go crazy. Hillery gets the older/white vote and Obama gets the young (who hardly vote) and the black vote.
I'm getting out my big bucket of popcorn for this one.

PS. Did you see where congress said if Obama becomes prez they will de-fund Iraq (ASAP)
These fools just don't get it.

Any suggestions Cato?
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 09:21 AMThe state legislatures were well aware of the rules before they changed the dates. Michigan was all the Democrats fault, In Florida's case it was a purposeful attempt by Gov. Crist the GOP to disenfranchise Democrat voters. Both legislatures should be taken to task for their irresponsibility.
They should have taken the GOP strategy of giving them half their delegates, I'm sure they will find a way to compromise in the end. Funny, I don't see you complaining about the GOP disenfranchising 13.5 million voters by only allowing only half the state delegates to be seated...not to mention half the state of New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wyoming. Ironic isn't it.
In the meantime I'm surprised Duffman does not feel slighted that Clinton doesn't want to count his vote...after all he lives in a Caucus state which are supposedly run by "Democrat activists" who are out to destroy Clinton. =P
Would that room have Internet access and would your hands be free enough to continue posting on SP? Doubt it. =P
I'll bet you also think Dr. Dean is doing a bang up job as head of that 3 ring circus you call a party too, right?
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 10:54 AMLooks like both parties decided that the party line overruled the states rights to hold their party primaries. I've seen it argued many times on here that the national political parties are private entities and should pay to host the election vote. If so don't you think the national chapter should have the right to decide the primary schedule?
In the end Dean's way sent a much stronger message to the states but ir ended up nipping him in the but 6mo later when a clear nominee had not arisen from the fray.
Who's to say that if Giuliani had won FL he would not have used the same tactic?
More you say??
Population of Wy- 515,000
Population of NJ- 8.7 mill.
Population of SC- 4.3 mill.
nope....still doesn't add up to 27 million. I guess this is why the WASL didn't go over so well in this state.
Some people think Half of a sum number is less than zero.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 11:39 AMIt also depends how we are counting? Are we only counting registered party voters or general population?
Oh, I see now...it's how many states? sorry, the way your goal posts keep shifting it's hard to keep up, Cato.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 12:01 PMIt's however you want to count it. Either way the political party sets the rules, not myself. I'm not a member of either party or the rules committee.
Will you be arguing that private corporations are not allowed to set the rules to host their own votes?
2008 Democratic Delegates- (after penalty by DNC)
Florida- 0
Michigan- 0
2008 Republican Delegates (after penalty by RNC)
Florida- 57
S.Carolina - 24
Michigan- 30
New hampshire - 12
Wyoming -12
Hmmm.....sounds like one party is still at least allowing state representation. Either way you slice it, the Dems are the disenfranchisers in this whole mess.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 12:26 PMYou telling me that the combined registered voter populations of FL, SC, MI, NH, & WY cut in half comes out to less than or equal to the total registered voter populations of FL, MI?
I don't think the voters of those states would like the fact they somehow are lesser states than FL & MI.
Either way you slice it, the Dems are the disenfranchisers in this whole mess.
Haha, so your saying it's OK to break the rules just to make your state seem more important than the rest of the country who patiently waits their turn? What kind of message does that send to the children? Cut in line, it's OK because you are so much more important that everyone else. That sounds like you have a fledgling endorsement for Communism if I ever heard one. You a pinko Ricky?
Both parties had consequences for breaking the rules that the legislatures of all states were well aware of. You break the rules, you pay the price. Trying to whine you were disenfranchised after you knowingly & purposefully broke the rules doesn't cut it in my book. Like I said originally, throw the bums out.
Current Status:
Obama needs 180 to win (based on RCP current total of 1845)
Add in MI (157 Delegates - Hillary 55%, Obama 45%)
Add in FL (211 Delegates - Hillary 50%, Obama 50%)
Total needed for nomination = 2025 + 1/2*368 = 2209
Obama w/MI & FL = 1845 + 71 (MI) + 105 (FL) = 2021
Obama needed to win = 188
Now for the remaining contests (w/% assumed):
WV (28, 60% Clinton, 40% Obama) = Obama+11
Oregon (52, 57% Obama, 43% Clinton) = Obama+30
KY (51, 55% Clinton, 45% Obama) = Obama+23
PR (55, 55% Clinton, 45% Obama) = Obama+25
MT (16, 60% Obama, 40% Clinton) = Obama+10
SD (15, 60% Obama, 40% Clinton) = Obama+9
Total additional Pledged Delegates for Obama 108. Total supers needed = 72-80.
I've done the math for you and at this point if you can't figure it out, I can't help ya bro.
the bottom line is the Republican haven't disenfranchised any state.....every state has Republican delegate representation. It's the Democrats that have provided Michigan and Florida with Zero DEMOCRAT DELEGATE representation. Agreed?
Now, try to back out of that little fact
Obfus-CATO-r.
No doubt you'll try and look silly again, so I say keep flailing your arms, as it's great entertainment fcr the rest of us.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 01:23 PMevery state has Republican delegate representation.
Guess what, in the end every state will have a Democrat delegation too. Isn't it amazing that private entities can change the rules to admit delegations after the fact. WOW! How about that. 50-50, 60-40, it won't matter, Obama will still eb the Dem nominee. The GOP seemed to realize it a lot earlier than his opponent has.
BTW, Gingrich is predicting GOP defeat come November. N
Now if the GOP looses in 2008 does that make Bush a good or bad President?
...If the GOP "looses(sic)" in 2008...? I'm assuming you meant to use the term lose, but hey I understand you're a product of the Washington public education system so you get a pass. On a positive, at least it's better than your math skills.
The Democratic party new slogan:
"Nomination without representation".....I like it.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 02:05 PMWhy would they not be represented? The GOP/Dem party can change the rules at any time. Your argument is lame much like your boy McCain's gas tax holiday. All talk, no show.
...and what does Barack Obama say when queried about why the states of Michigan and Florida won't be represented?
"Can't I just finish my waffle?"
aaaah yes folks, now that's change we can all believe in isn't it?
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 02:24 PM*Yawn*, they will get seated in the end. Give it up Ricky.
Dean's waffling, not Obama. Besides one waffle is not going to McCain's constant waffling. He's flip-flopped more times than Romney and Kerry combined. McCain sure seems like a fish out of water on the campaign trail.
End of what? the end of the convention when everyone's gone home? the end of the 2008 election? the end of the world as we know it?.......how vague is that answer.
On a lighter note:
Obama wants to run the country and he can't even keep his interviewers name straight. Talking with Matt Lauer on the Today show Monday morning he kept calling him "Tim" and "Matt" both in the same interview.......and they say McCain is going senile.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMw5PRCiEJw
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 02:51 PMDon't be coy, you know everyone will get seated at the convention when it starts. It's political suicide to do it any other way. Hillary may be into extended and painful suicide but the Party is not.
Obama wants to run the country and he can't even keep his interviewers name straight
That's pretty meager to Sen. McCain's League of Nations gaffe the other day. At least Sen. Obama knows who to talk to when it comes to foreign policy.
John McCain...such a sad end for a fine soldier. He's going to be up there on the GOP Hall of Shame next to his buddy Bob Dole.
aahh yes, now the SP Obfus-cato-r is calling 2 war hero's shameful. I guess liberals like you just don't appreciate your freedom that men like Dole and McCain sacrificed for. You are indeed the typical Seattle leftist, Cato. Ignorant and misinformed and proud of it.
Both Dole and McCain have more integrity in their little pinky than either you or your messiah Sen. Fauxbama will ever have accumulated throughout your entire life.
It's nice to see the hatred of our Military finally seep out though Cato. A little more transparency sheds some light on your delusional world view that you express here.
Reporter: 'Sen. Obama, what is your opinion of Former president Carter traveling to the middle east to meet with Hamas?'
Senator Obama: "Why can't I just eat my waffle?"
...but hey, what kind of intelligent answer do you expect from a "Community Organizer"?
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 03:45 PMDon't forget that the Marine Veteran Reverend Wright also fought for your freedom. For some reason, I don't see him getting any respect around here. Hmmm. I guess your only a true hero if you are a republican veteran.
Honestly, watching Obama and McCain debate is going to be great fun.
Posted by: Splinter on May 7, 2008 04:10 PMJerry Wright supplanted his loyalty with hate...and turned it into a lucrative, money-making venture. But, hey...look at him now, peddling hate got him a nice mansion in the same "rich, white people" neighborhoods that he spent 30 years castigating from his pulpit....paid for by the suckers who sat in his pews for all these years like Barry Obama.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 04:22 PMI see, now it's my fault that the voters of America did found that these distinguished veterans were not fit enough for the nations highest public office. Spin Spin Spin.
Hmmm. I guess your only a true hero if you are a republican veteran.
Let us not forget Sen. James Webb...distinguished military veteran, former secretary of the Navy under Reagan, winner of two purple hearts, two bronze stars, a silver star, and a Navy Cross...yet he got no respect on here when he beat George "Macaca" Allen in Virgia who never served a day in his life.
Nomination without representation....the Democratic party way.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 7, 2008 06:09 PMThat has been the big difference between Conservatives and Liberals...we actaully hold people accountable for their actions and words.
Posted by: TrueSoldier on May 7, 2008 09:29 PMLOL! And Obama DID denounce what Wright said. However, McCain is still accepting Haage's endorsement and praises his leadership style.
How can you not see such an obvious double standard? There are lot of important issues to debate and character issues we can look at, but try to show at least a little bit of intellectual honesty.
Posted by: Splinter on May 8, 2008 06:39 AMMcCain has never denounced Hagee or any of the other "agents of intolerance" despite being asked many times about it. He claims it was an honor to be endorsed by the Rev. Hagee.
Total double standard on the GOP part...so in addition to loosing the hispanic vote, the black vote, and the catholic vote, which voting block will McCain loose next?
I would bet money that 'Splinter' is one of those that isn't even registered to vote in the upcoming election.
I'd bet he is registered, you just dislike him because he proved that you a liar who vomits up the same old double standard partisan rhetoric every time.
Not that you'd have the integrity to ask for an apology.
obtw....what is with your inability to spell the word "lose"...You always spell it "loose". While a minor infraction, it provides us far too much insight into your dating preferences.
Posted by: Rick D. on May 8, 2008 10:03 AMAnd Rick, Hagee has not apologized for the comments. In fact, he has repeated them again in recent weeks. And McCain is still proud to have his endorsement.
Please try again.
Posted by: Splinter on May 8, 2008 10:25 AMyou said @ 61 that "Hagee has not apologized for the comments." which is not correct. Here is an excerpt from his apology:
"As a believing Christian, I see the hand of God in everything that happens here on earth, both the blessings and the curses," Hagee said in a statement issued through his public relations firm. "But ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise. No matter what the cause of the storm, my heart goes out to all who suffered in this terrible tragedy. There but for the grace of God go any one of us."
During a Thursday visit to New Orleans neighborhoods still recovering from the hurricane, McCain repudiated Hagee's comments about Katrina. "It's nonsense," he told reporters. "
Hmm. sounds like an apology to me and a repudiation from McCain. Now, where is Reverend Wright's apology for his 35 years of hate speech?? will you be posting it Splinter?
And where in your excerpt is Hagee apologizing for suggesting 9/11 was a result of sinful behavior in America (blame America first if I ever heard it)? He says he can't know the mind of God regarding Katrina... but then just yesterday he says this:
>>>When a woman on the call asked why he seemed to have backed away from his Katrina comments in face of criticism, Hagee said he hadn't. As for the Katrina, he said, God controls hurricanes and "God always punishes unconfessed sin." You do the math.
http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/05/hagee.html
And we haven't even gotten into Hagee's notion that America should bomb Iran to help bring on the second coming of Christ, or referring to the Pope as the anti-christ. Has he "apologized" for these positions too?
Sorry, but if Obama is going to be raked over the coals and be forced to disown anyone that says something stupid and "unamerican", then McCain should be held to the same standard.
Oh, and have you seen the latest on McCain's "Spiritual Guide" Rod Parsley? The man who thinks the Islamic religion should be destroyed completely?
http://www.motherjones.com/washington_dispatch/2008/05/john-mccain-rod-parsley-pastor-problem.html
Honestly, if the Republicans are going to pander to these nut jobs, it really is pretty stupid to be trying to make an issue out of the liberal religios nut jobs.
Posted by: Splinter on May 8, 2008 11:36 AMA: No
Did Hagee mary McCain and his wife Cindy?
A: No
Did Hagee baptize any of McCains Children?
A: No
Did McCain use a phrase in one of Hagee's sermons and use it as the title of his book?
A: No
Has McCain ever referred to Hagee as his "spiritual advisor", "uncle" or "mentor"?
A: No
Only the mentally infirm are capable of tying McCain to Hagee to the same extent as Obama to his nutty old Pastor Wright.
Did Obama ever say "I can no sooner disown pastor Wright than I could my own white Grandmother"
A: Yes
But nice try fellas.
