Sign of the Apocalypse or New Era of Openess?

Read the news for yourself: Ron Sims is on Twitter.

I'm a bit ambivalent about Twitter (which for the technology challenged essentially amounts to blog meets texting...with a little bit of Facebook/MySpace thrown in too) and have dodged joining thus far. A couple friends use it and like it a lot. I keep track of a couple people in the political world on it too (examples here and here).

But really, I often find find the Twitter feed which melds responses from their "followers" with their twitters on their "followers" pages a bit confusing. Plus, there's a bit of a trend toward TMI in Twitter world.

Your thoughts?
