Away from the Blog

This blogger will be contributing intermittently at best, and perhaps not at all in the next several days. I'll rejoin the festivities later in this coming week.

For now, it would appear we're at a slight period of pause in the political races at the top of our radar screen. Absent a gaffe, groundbreaking TV ad, or some bombshell news story we know where things are until the debate season is upon us.

John McCain likely has a rather modest lead nationally, with a real war brewing the Electoral College (itself looking like a coin flip right now). Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are the biggest battlegrounds to watch. Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico are equally important though not as rich in electoral votes. Other states may move in and out of contention as swing state contests, but those six look like the most competitive at this point. The first Presidential debate is September 26th.

Dino Rossi probably has a slight lead, which means very little with seven weeks to go other than he's in a pleasant position for a Republican in the Evergreen State as we come to the homestretch. For now it looks as if the gubernatorial debates will start on September 20th.

Dave Reichert is probably ahead. By how much we don't know for sure given the comparative lack of diversity in public polling. He's still likely to be outspent directly and indirectly down the stretch. His campaign will need to make sure to be efficient and effective with the resources they do have between now and Election Day (as they seem to have done thus far and in the close of the 2006 contest).

That's all for now.

1. Well enjoy your time away. I just go through sending more money to the Rossi campaign.

What is the limit to the amount we can donate anyway?

2. I had my "politics overload" last weekend when the conventions were over. I couldn't even bring myself to turn on the computer.

I disagree that we're at a slight pause: as soon as Governor Palin begins campaigning again, the press will embarass themselves again. She is giving her first cable news interview on Monday and Tuesday (airing, I beleive Tuesday and Wednesday) PLUS her husband has a cable interview on Monday. We have the plane load of bottom-feeders pawing through trash bins up in Alaska, we have "trooper-gate" being expedited and we have POLLS POLLS POLLS!

3. And today in the Sunday Seattle Times yet another nasty New York Times double page knife job on Sarah Palin, "Palin promoted friends and secrecy, targeted critics"

And get this, the article was written by not just one but three NYT reporters, all sent to Alaska to dig up as much dirt on Palin as possible.

This nastiness while Obama's campaign plays the age card implying that McCain is computer illiterate...which is a lie.

By next week the amount of anti-Palin articles by the media will surely reach into the hundreds. I'd love to see a McCain ad listing the number of articles savaging Palin. Most Americans will be repulsed.

I say keep it up leftist media. The more Americans find out who you truly are the greater our chances of winning not only the Presidency but most other races in November. Or haven't they noticed the polls showing the Rossi and Reichert races have changed significantly in this past week, and not exactly in their favor.

4. The voters are not looking for Palin bottomfeeders, this will bring no pay dirt to their feeble party hacks.

Voters are looking for real answers on drilling, Tax relief, Jobs, and this economy, all things the Democrats are against.

5. Re #3

The all-too predictable NY Times hit piece on Palin

**

Debunked.

6. Well why shouldn't the media be doing a hack job on Palin? That's who Obama has been running against since the R convention. (And not doing it very well I would add.)

8. Did you know that the NYT and Politico send their crack staffs to Illinois to trace the faint footsteps left by the groundbreaking Obama?

I thought not. Wonder why?

People don't know Obama. All they know is he is a rock star and can deliver a mean speech. So what if he wrote two books? Isn't it time to tell those Americans who don't begin to pay attention under after Labor Day exactly what Obama is and what is doesn't stand for?

9. Eric, you can take time off as long as Stefan gets us a post a day. Otherwise, as Jack LeCerveau would say, "it is Slim Pickens".
