Lt. Gov Race Below the Radar Screen
The Seattle Times endorsed Republican Marcia McRaw for Lt. Governor today.
I note that in part because if any major statewide officeholder engaged in the sort of conflict of interest that incumbent Brad Owen has engaged in they would already have been crucified in the press.

1. The office of LG is probably less important than the office of VP but probably still important enough that we shouldn't get rid of it. I'm kinda torn on that. However, as long as we do have I'm glad that whomever is in the office is trying to do something useful with it. Brad may have done a few questionable things during his time in office and I'm generally against politicians holding office for that long, but until the Republican Party puts someone decent up against him (which we they won't do because it's a slaughter everytime and Owen is a moderate) I don't see any reason to vote against him. Again, because he's a moderate Democrat standing tall against a rising tide of liberalism in his party he should be rewarded somewhat for that. And we certainly shouldn't vote against him for something as relatively innocuous as what the article describes. If we had to vote out every policitian that did stuff like that Olympia would be a pretty sleepy town (which, yes, is probably a good thing but if we're going to do it let's not cherry pick).
2. Gregoire will abandon the financial mess she has created, and head to DC to take some $$$$ position with Obama, early next year.
She will take her cushy 39 yr Pers 1 Pension and run for her second Gvt pension.
So that is why we need to pick a Republican for Lt Governor.
I'll guarantee she is heading out! One way or the other!
3. Oh boy. This guy has been in the Lt. Gov. job too long. I can't imagine why anyone would approve of the use of state resources to further his off-duty interests! Clean house, Washington!
4. What a puff piece.
5. Dino Rossi and Marcia McCraw make an excellent Republican ticket for Washington. Two drunk drivers -- a fine example for our state. At least Rossi did his drunk driving when he was pretty young. McCraw was caught for drunk in June 2006, when she was 51 years old and after she had been an attorney for almost 13 years. It is appropriate that McCraw works for Jane Hague. Maybe the media would have covered this story more, but McCraw is a joke candidate with no chance against Brad Owen.
6. I'd rather be a candidate with a drunk-driving conviction on my record than be a multi-time loser who couldn't beat a candidate with a drunk-driving conviction on her record.
7. jimg @ 6
Fortunately, Democratic incumbent Brad Owen is running against this convicted Republican drunk driver Marcia McCraw (who by the way blew a 0.197 and 0.203 and caused an injury accident).
8. Jeez, Richard Pope and I agree on something. . . drunk driving is bad. I may have to re-think my position on that.
As to the Lt. Gov race, Brad Owen is an idiot. I worked with him in the legislature his freshman term, and I swear every time he entered the room the average IQ dropped by 30 points. Please, he lists his only education as an honorary degree - give me a break. In addition, what is the deal about taking a security detail wherever he goes? A security detail for the Lt. Governor, sounds like "Mr. I am very, very short therefore I need to look important" needs someone to tell him to get off the high horse, take his hand out of his coat front and get real. And then he wanted a security detail for his wife!!? Augh!!!
Marcia McRaw may be a nut job, but at least she would be OUR nut job, who would be easy to beat in 4 years time.
