Thanks to Pierce County we may have a data void tonight...on top of how long it will take for King to a) tally mail-in ballots and b) collect and report poll votes.
First returns, early mail-in ballots in King County (which will be Burner's best batch):
Burner 57% to Reichert's 43%.
BUT, that accounts for less than 11% turnout in only the King County portion of the 8th CD.
Waiting game time...
11:47 PM - Here's the link for results broken down by county.
King County poll results are trickling in, mail-in ballots are being counted s-l-o-w-l-y, and one of these days Pierce County will figure out a way to catch up after playing around with their "ranked choice voting" for their countywide offices.
It's tightened down to 52.4% for Burner to 47.6% for Reichert as of this typing. Keep in mind that first batch of King County mail-in ballots likely came in before the "I have a degree in economics" fumble.
Currently, Pierce County turnout is at around 25% based on ballots counted and King County is under 18%.
This one is going to take a while. I'm going to bed now...see you early in the am.

Posted by: headless lucy on November 4, 2008 11:23 PMGuess what? Only right-wingers believe any of the above. How did this election work out for you right-wingers?
Posted by: ivan on November 4, 2008 11:25 PMAnd tonight I am feeling jolly well elated. We are beating Toby Nixon and that posturing clown Glenn Anderson so far, too. How do you like that, Michele? Just dandy, isn't it?
Only right wingers employ people.
re 9: Did yiu make that check out to someone from India, China, or VIET NAM???
Posted by: headless lucy on November 4, 2008 11:42 PMKC Elections has completed the count, and know how many votes they need to manufacture to guarantee a win. That's what they're working on right now...
Posted by: Shanghai Dan on November 4, 2008 11:44 PMMaybe she'll win, maybe she won't. But the numbers do not support any claim of victory. Less than half the vote counted, no exit polls, no models for early vs. late voting ... no anything.
Sad, just sad.
The close counties Rossi needed to win are tipping the wrong way. That's why I'm ready to say this contest is all but over.
Posted by: Eric Earling on November 5, 2008 12:15 AMDo you like Rossi's odds? I don't. I'd say Gregoire's lead is likely to grow. I'd say the voters didn't buy what Dino was selling. I'd find it hard to come to any other conclusion.
I might be able to produce a few signs like that.
Posted by: headless lucy on November 5, 2008 12:18 AMI can see the lawn signs now.
Posted by: headless lucy on November 5, 2008 12:22 AMBurner WAS ahead by 26,791 to 22,068 in King County at 11:27 P.M.
With the new poll precincts dropped at 12:22 AM, Burner is now ahead by only 34,990 to 32,955 in King County (with 311 out of 747 poll precincts counted).
Overall lead is now 46,068 Burner to 45,347 Reichert.
I am afraid Burner will be behind Reichert by a couple thousand votes when all the poll precincts in King County finish being reported in the next hour or so.
