Making history with a remarkably slow vote count

The King County vote count isn't merely slow. Yesterday was the slowest election night count in recent history. Compare with other recent election night tallies of mail ballots:

Nov. 2004: 233,254

Nov. 2005: 148,164

Nov. 2006: 119,240

Nov. 2007: 144,600

Primary 2008: 127,000

This election: Nov. 2008: 117,500

I think it's more important to have an accurate count than a fast count, but why does the election with the largest number of mail ballots in county history have the lowest number counted on election day?

It is certainly not caused by an insufficient number of ballots in hand on election day, and it is definitely not caused by the existence of polling sites, as Sam Reed has been telling us. So why is the count so slow and why were election officials preemptively pointing their fingers at the wrong causes?

1. YAWN! :0....this is getting about as old and Tim Eyeman.

2. Precints polling an average of 15 to 20 percent of voters with provisional ballots might do it.

3. Duff.

If this is so boring, why not leave and make your dumb comments at say KOS.

I know they would just love your whit.

4. Probably slower because Seattle and King County are producing dumber and dumber graduates each successive year, which is confirmed by increasing votes for Dimocrat candidates.

5. On KOMO they more or less blamed the federal gov for not certifying the new machines in the back room that are ready to go.
I saw the beautiful irony in the fed getting the blame as the people just spoke and want the feds to take control of so much more.
But why didn't KC chase this down much earlier?

6. Thanks AM/V, that's always the retort when a regular herein gets 'frustrated' and/or 'lacking'...i.e. go to KOS or HA, etc
I know this is a tough day for you, but try to stay composed. Sit back, have yet another glass of vino and lament about dino. Take D-E-E-P breaths...it'll be all right. :)

7. King Co has to wait and see how many votes Pierce Co gives to Reichart. That way, they'll know how many they need to manufacture for a Burner win. If I were the Pierce Co people, I'd hold off reporting until King Co was done!

8. #7 a cynic

Exactly! King County is known for it's manufacturing ballots to get the number of votes it needs.

This is not science, this is history.

9. Sure, whatever Stefan. Washington State and America have rejected you and your pathetic band of lying fearmongers. Good riddance.

10. In Louisiana and after a having an election stolen by Mary Landrieu in 1996 we reformed our election process. They've done a good job at standardizing the machines and training local clerks of court. We have voter id laws and everything runs pretty smooth.

If we can get it right anyone can.

11. Duffie.

Hate to break it to you bud. I'm not having a tough day at all. I'm retired with a home that is nearly paid off.
So I could care less.

I have seen all day where you have made one childest comment after another. Your the one who needs to grow up. Granted your older than me, so I figure it's to late.

As I've said before. I get to watch the dem's go nuts for the next two years as your party tries to give away all that they said. The rep's could take over like they did when Clinton was in. (-:

So I get the last laugh.

12. The next Tim Eyman initiative will have something to do with requiring elections results within X hours or free milk and cookies to everyone in the state.

13. 'Grats Medic, but you forgot to mention that you are sitting back and waiting for the big paycheck Obama promised to pay the rest of the mortgage, money to play around at school with as a last hoorah and money to fill your cupboards with snacks. Obama promised to take care of you, too, didn't he?

Slow vote count= time to manufacture votes for Burner.

14. 'So I could care less.'

Oh AM/V you no fool me - you DO care, that's why you were in the profession you chose, one that I respect greatly.

'...made one childish comment after another..'

You may 'think' you are the judge of what is 'childish', but I can assure you that unless you can read what is in the mind of the person making the comment...you best judge not.

'Your the one who needs to grow up.'

I don't recall implying that you needed to grow up...are you making this stuff up?

'Granted your older than me, so I figure it's to late.'

Did you mean that chronologically....ha; don't be too sure. I did serve in the VN era, but I was very young when I went in.

'So I get the last laugh.'

If that's important to you...so be it; but my guess is that (to you) w/be a token satisfaction and you are of much more substance than that.

Am I close...grasshopper?

16. No worries now that the messiah has been elected. See the slow count? See the crowded polling places? (note that turnout wasn't that great @ 46.71%)

It is all in preparation for what your "free" healthcare is going to be like. Except that turnout will be much greater. [sigh]

18. The reason the counting is deliberately slow is to punish us for not buying the new election toys for our owners. It is the same approach as the perennial threats to cut police and fire services unless we fork over the dough. If we do not obey, we deserve to be inconvenienced, shot or torched.

19. Uh, the money was promised by the feds for new optical scanners after the voting act of 2002, but zip has been delivered, ok? I'm glad it's delicious irony for Dino Lossi.

22. Thursday afternoon and my vote still hasn't been counted, though it was dropped off at one of those polling places.
