Huff in a Walk

Virtual incumbent Sherril Huff is rolling to a comfortable, plurality election as of this typing. First round of results (reaching 15% turnout as of this typing):

Huff - 44.0%

David Irons - 19.2%

Pam Roach - 16.7%

And the three other candidates rounding things out.

That 15% turnout figure is substantial given the likely low, low turnout of this special election. It's more than enough for a trend.

For good or for ill, stick a fork in this one.

1. Hmm, in a top-2 race would Huff have won? Why exactly is this race different than other races where we strive for a winner with 50% +1 vote? How could it have turned out different with one Democrat-partisan-hand-picked-Sims-election-fixer versus too many others to divide up the rest of the vote?

Was this simple majority race the choice of Elections, the County Council, or some other decision process? Sorry if I missed the explanation long ago.

At least the people have spoken. Now we get exactly what we deserve.

2. I was afraid we were going to divide our vote between Irons and Roach while Huff gets all the Dems who would rather have the position appointed by Dems in the first place. Problem is that even adding Roach and Irons doesn't beat Huff. I don't expect a lot of reform in the future. We've lost the security of the polls for the foreseeable future.

3. Maybe the people just realized that Irons and Roach wanted to do for King County what Kathrine Harris did for Florida and Ken Blackwell did for Ohio!!
