Either...or...
Perhaps you, the loyal Sound Politics readership, can help this blogger out with a conundrum. I am honestly vexed about which of the below stories is more troublesome:
1) The moron of a pet owner who actually owned the chimpanzee that did this. Even a little basic research yields the basic fact that mature, adult chimpanzees are not only potentially volatile and violent, but immensely powerful (think super-human strength). Like, I'd rather be locked in a room with a serial killer and take my chances than tangle with an angry chimp.
2) Alfie Patten.
Who you say? Check out Link A and Link B. Then consult your nearest copy of Revelations...because the apocalypse may well be upon us.
Mind boggling.
Meanwhile, I await your verdict in the comments.

1. Gosh Eric, I'm not sure why you are at all suprised. Neither of these are a particularly new brand idiocy... just recent idiocy.
2. While the thought of a 13 year old fathering a child is disturbing, a wild chimp biting the face off an innocent woman trumps that story. Both stories are sickening. Kids playing house, or an obviously lonely woman playing house with a chimp as it was her child? She should look into "cat-hoarding" instead to feed her lonliness.
3. Both are results of defects. The first case is clearly a mental defect in the owner while the second is clearly a parental defect. Some parts of the UK and the culture in those areas are hyper-sexualized, so this was simply an inevitable eventuality.
4. The chimpanzee is up there with just poor judgement. Apes and Monkeys are notoriously jealous of anyone coming between them and their owner. You will usually find that it is a pet/owner pairing of the opposite sex. Then consider this, a teenage chimp can tear the arms off an adult human male if they choose to. It is unfortunate that this owner may not have known what they were actually living with. I also understand that the victim was known to the ape but had changed thier appearance. A simple hug between friends could have set off a jealous rage.
The 13 year old.... I tend to agree with Rick that this is a parent defect and it is unfortunate that the defect has now passed on to another generation.
5. I'm personally holding out judgment until we can see what the CNN viewership thinks via Twitter.
6. I honestly don't understand why the 15/13 year old thing made international news. The reality is that this is common in small towns (and large) throughout the United States. Granted most of them aren't ridiculously YOUNG looking guys with ridiculously UGLY women, but it's still not uncommon at all, unfortunately.
7. Interviewer: What will you do financially?
Alfie: What's financially?
Mother of baby: (giggles)
Interviewer: What will you do for money?
Alfie: I don't know

Oy Vey,this is gonna turn out just smashing./ sarcasm
8. A friend emailed me this link to a famous lib site and said take a look at teh comments if you want to get a good look at libdumb at it's best. There are some here that you will leave you scratching your head over. FWIW the woman is lucky she didn't have her crotch ripped completely off as well, chimps are notorious for that.

9. While I agree with the bad parenting on the part of the UK, everyone here was rallying around Bristol Palin when her irresponsible parent was chosen to be on the Presidential ticket with Sen. McCain.
Gotta love the hypocrisy that exists on here.
10. If you can't make the distinction between a 13 year old boy with a 17 year old girl, I can't help you. The glaring 4 year difference notwithstanding, the maturity rate in girls arrives quicker than it does in boys.
11. Er, Eric, that would be Revelation---loose the 's'.
12. @11 -
"Loose" the s? Loose it on what? An s is a terrible thing to waste.
13. Both case are about SEX. The Lady slept with the ape.
and, so you know now how the AIDs virus passed to humans.
14. The glaring 4 year difference notwithstanding, the maturity rate in girls arrives quicker than it does in boys.
Making excuses doesn't change the fact Bristol is a teenage mother of an out-of-wedlock child. Both are clear examples of bad parenting.
15. Cato,
Bristol Palin's parents did inculcate a reverence for human life that your fellow travelers just don't and will never get. There may have been some areas in which they could have done better, but they did teach their daughter that having an abortion doesn't only mean you are no longer pregnant it also means you are the mother of a dead baby.
16. "Making excuses doesn't change the fact [Stanley Ann Dunham] is a teenage mother of an out-of-wedlock child. Both are clear examples of bad parenting." ~ Cato
...and to think you voted for that out-of-wedlock child 47 years later this past November. Short term memory lapse?
Your obsession with the Palin's is borderline Dave Ross creepy.
