I'm all for Public Disclosure, but this is ridiculous

While perusing the PDC's website this morning I came across a major security breach. For obvious reasons I'm not going to post the information I have and like a good citizen I've reported it to the PDC. In short though, I am now in possession of the names, Filer IDs, passwords, password hints and answers for every registered lobbyist in Washington State. It's a good thing they don't have access to our social security numbers.

UPDATE: Problem solved. At least it was only accessible for about an hour.

1. Maybe PDC doesn't have our SSN directly, but I contend that they probably have access to them anyway. I am seriously concerned with the handling of SSN in general by the government, and that is the reason I do not buy fishing license, which requires SSN for strange reason. The only time I gave the government (I mean directly) was when I had to renew my driver's license.

2. Uhhh, solved? So PDC has reset the password of every lobbyist in Washington state?

3. Off topic but a couple of gems off the Kitsap Sun website: Selling naming rights to ferries

And a member of the WTC telling ferry riders to stop their whining and pay their way as opposed to bus and light rail riders

4. Speaking of public disclosure, when's the PDC going to investigate Dow Constantine? This comment on an article at publicola.net is revealing abut the local media's stunning silence.

5. Lobbyists are below contempt.

They are a cancer upon our political system.

6. This is why "universal voter registration" is such a great idea: government never makes mistakes with data. The fact that anyone thinks trying to create a master list of everybody, placing all the onus on government and none on the individual voter, is a good idea simply amazes me. Call it one stop shopping for identity theft.

Did the PDC indicate whether they will notify all those people that their data was exposed?

7. Steve, the problem isn't lobbyists. Lobbying is specifically guaranteed in the Constitution. There would not have to be so much of itif the government didn't put itself in position to grant favors, exemptions, etc, etc.

Lobbyists are created by politicians.

It is politicians who below contempt.
