Open Thread For Positive Endorsements

There's one month to go before the election, so I am providing this open thread for positive endorsements.  If you plan to vote for a candidate, tell us why.  And if you can link to the candidate's web site, or other positive information about them, so much the better.

(I'll put up another open thread in a week or two for positive and negative comments about the candidates, but on this thread you should limit your comments to what is good about your candidate, not what is bad about the other candidate.)

1. If you live in King County there is an obvious contrast between the old way and a new way of running county government. Dow Constantine has continually rubber stamped every bad ordinance and tax increase over the past 7 years on the King County Council. We need real TANGIBLE change this year. Vote Susan Hutchison!

2. Just a reminder: Positive comments only. (I probably should delete the first comment, just to show that I am serious, but I am feeling generous on this beautiful morning.)

3. For King County Exec, I think that Susan Hutchison is far and away the best pick. If for no other reason than she's not been part of the problem there and with her "outside the beltway" view, she should be part of, if not the, solution. I also think that she is a practical person and that would be rare in government circles these days. I really don't see a downside to having her as KC exec.

Here's hopin'

4. Vote for Susan Hutchison for King County Executive. She will bring practical, common-sense leadership that is so desperately needed in King County, especially in these challenging times. Susan will not tolerate corruption, and will be a refreshing change in that top post.

5. Nick Licata for City Council. He seems to be the only candidate who regularly questions where the money for all the grand projects is coming from. And he is against a two way Mercer.

Lloyd Hara for assessor. He has done a good job at the port and will do a good job as assessor, especially since the job entails herding cats. And he is the only candidate who knows how to correctly answer the question "Will my taxes go down if my assessment goes down?"

6. For the almost 500,000 people living in Public Hospital District #1, ie Valley Medical Center, a clear choice is Dr. Aaron Heide for Hospital Commissioner. There have been many issues at Valley Medical, I won't be negative but will link to various independent mainstream media articles from last week for proof of the need for change.

Heide would be the only person on the board who is actually a medical professional. This is a very important race but hasn't gotten much coverage so please tell your friends to vote for Heide.

Please spread the word to all your friends who live in this huge district - Renton, Kent, Covington, and parts of Newcastle, Bellevue, SeaTac, Black Diamond and Maple Valley. They pay over $250 per year to Valley Medical for the average homeowner and most don't know that they are even in a hospital district.

7. Betina Finley is running for Bellevue City Council. VERY upbeat young woman with energy and excitement that is fun to see in a cadidate. She is also a small business owner who understands what it takes to make payroll. She has my vote!

8. For Maple Valley City Council support incumbent Victoria Jonas and challenger Erin Weaver. For the open seat support Bill Allison. Allison-Weaver would be the only people on the council that actually reflect Maple Valley's demographic profile. The city is filled with young families but no councilors have kids in the schools. Allison & Weaver do, they are in touch with the community and are a dose of new blood the council sorely needs. Jonas led the effort to create the new Maple Valley Farmers' Market and she is one of the hardest working councilors for the city. She is a keeper.

9. For the position of Commissioner of Public Hospital District #1, ie Valley Medical Center, a clear choice is Mike Miller. The recent barrage of negative stories related to VMC are the the work of a movement to dismantle the Hospital District, a movement opposed by Mr. Miller. Mike Miller is an honorable man with sound business sense and a devotion to the healthcare needs of the district; his only failing is that he is NOT a politician, and won't run a nasty campaign. VMC's measurable quality of care can be traced to the sound leadership of people like Mike Miller.
