Harry Reid Really is That Dumb

Senator Harry Reid said today, "Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all [the] Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"

He went on to compare it to women's suffrage and civil rights, too.

So according to Reid, any time anyone says any bill is bad and that you should slow down or start over, then you are like the defenders of slavery. I won't even bother to point out the many times Reid tried to "slow down" or "start over" something under Bush and a Republican Congress (nor that the Democrats were primarily the ones doing the blocking in all three of his examples).

And then when Reid was, rightfully and obviously, condemned for his insipid remarks, his spokesman actually attacks the people for pointing out the fact that what Senator Reid sayid was moronic: "It is hard to believe Senate Republicans are making these charges with a straight face."

Right. When you actually make the argument that any attempt to delay or block legislation amounts to trying to preseve slavery and hold back the rights of women and other minorities, it's hard to imagine people would actually criticize you for it.

So I don't know if he is dumb enough to believe this idiotic comparison, but the Senate Majority Leader is dumb enough to believe it's reasonable or helpful to say it, and then to defend it.

Ladies and gentlemen: your Democratic Party.

1. Will somebody PLEASE tell Harry Reid that only 38% of Americans even want his stupid Health DEform. So America IS on the side of republicans. Thus, Harry Reid is actually criticizing the vast majority of Americans with his lameness.

And talk about Behold your Democrat party: Did you check out the porn reading list recommended by Obama's (not-so) Safe Schools Czar? My goodness--for those who after seeing that still don't understand why so many people find this administration disturbing, there really isn't much hope for you.

2. When Reid is clobbered next November, u think he'll follow in the footsteps of the prior moron, Daschle, and become a lobbyist? You know, one of those types that won't have any place in the empty suit's Administration?

3. President Teleprompter and the trolls will not rest until there is a Kevin Jennings in every public school in America, instructing our kids on "fisting".

To which I reply, keep that stinking pervert away from my kids.

4. #3: Jennings wouldn't be allowed anywhere near my kid's school.

5. It seems appropriate now to point out that the party tyring to slow down the abolition of slavery was the Democratic Party. The Republican Party was formed primarily to fight for the abolition of slavery.

Maybe Senator Reid is having a belated attack of Democratic White Guilt.

6. #5: I think it may be more like "Democrat Amnesia", a common ailment.

7. Reid is obviously slipping. He forgot to throw in a Hitler comparison.

8. Dingy Harry certainly is an ignorant, dottering fool, but apparently also really bad at history. I find it hilarious that any member of the Democrat party feels compelled to lecture the GOP about being on the wrong side of history when they've had a vile racist within not only its ranks, but leadership for the last 50 years. A guy who filibustered (with other Democrats) the civil rights act of 1964 at the age of 47, was the Grand Keagle of the KKK prior to that and voted against both black SCOTUS nominees to the high court (Marshall, Thomas). If you're looking for someone that's on the wrong side of history, Harry, That's him, your good friend Robert Byrd to your right.

9. I don't think he is that dumb. He thinks you are.

People like him have created a class of people that are uneducated and dependent on Government. Those are the people that keep him in power. Those are the people he is talking to.

11. Democrats have given up on the idea of enslaving just blacks and now want to enslave everyone.

12. President teleprompter's sneering, sarcastic press hack Gibbs has now derided the latest record low Gallup poll showing only 47% of Americans support the messiah. The cretin says the poll was the product of six year olds with crayons.

The marxists are getting scared. Gallup is hardly a conservative organization. They can't acknowledge that the incompetent one's public support marks a record low for a new president so they're going into "circle the wagons" mode.
Compare Gibb's typical nastiness to - say - Tony Snow dealing with the senile Helen Thomas. You can bet the reds in congress who *want* to be re-elected in 2010 *are* paying attention to the polls. I say identify every one of them with "the chosen one" in 2010. Let's make certain the public is reminded about Kevin Jennings, Anita Dunn, Van Jones, Louis Gates, ACORN, etc. and chain the tag to each and every liberal.

13. The blueprint for Obamalosi-Reid Care was written by a convicted felon, an Obama advisor. The Government has officially gone insane. For further information, read;

14. Labeling anyone who opposes some legislation as a racist/bigot is usually the favored tactic of the left. This seems to be an expansion of that. Reid is the lowest form of politician.

The other meme of this Congress and White House is the whole "making history". Climate change legislation? Making history. Taking over healthcare? Making history. They are so fond of making history, while bankrupting the nation.

15. #11 Jack is right on the mark. This country spent years and lives to make people free and independent. The government now seems committed to take away that freedom. The arguments against health care proposals must elevate the concern for the loss of individual freedom. Why can not an individual insure him/herself? Why must a person be dependent upon government for health care? Why are insurance options mandated to provide coverage for routine health services, responsibilities individuals should be required to provide for themselves?

16. So dissent is no longer patriotic according to the current administration and Democrat controlled Congress?

Posted by: FurryOldGuyJeans on December 8, 2009 09:20 AM
17. Funny that Dingy Harry would declare those opposed to being further beholden to and dependent on the Government as the pro-slavery crowd? Sorry, Harry, but If anyone has the plantation owner mentality, it's you and the rest of the Democrats that demand more government control over our lives.

Not that you're intelligent enough to see the irony in holding that position.

18. Looks like Harry Reid wants to do to others what he has already done to those in the State of Nevada.Sound familiar! For example consider that 1 in 13 homes is in foreclosure according to someone who lived there and now works with my husband.(Recently married) 12/5/09.NO wonder his approval rating is at 38%.What a gift for consevatism!

19. It's why I call them the Slavery Party. It's a name that truly fits that party.

20. Michelle Malkin points out that 53% of Nevadans oppose Obamacare, while just 39% of Nevadans favor it. So Reid is badly dissing his own home state. If people still vote for the likes of Reid in NV, then they deserve what they get. But sounds like Reid's political career is, in fact, circling the drain.

21. CBO thinks 10 million will lose health insurance under Senate plan.

What are they, slaveholders?

22. Reid has a history of inane statements. Remember his "smell the tourists" line? (When the Capitol Vistor's Center opened, he expressed his relief that he would no longer have to smell the tourists coming to see his digs).

No doubt if he had an 'R' by his name, media would have given him the Quayle/Lott/Palin treatment over that.

23. If Harry Reid and the rest of his cronies actually had brains, they would be dangerous.
Only 38% support the current proposal for health care, because the majority are savvy enough to know that whole story, i.e." the truth" that it will cost too much and not provide a health care that is sustainable.
Too bad the Rights decimated their party to the extent we are subject to Leftist rule.
Last one to leave the planet, please turn off the lights, if there are any lights left on?

24. How did Harry Reid get elected and re-elected so many times and how did he get to be the leader of the Senate? I know we like to use terms like "dumb" and "stupid" but, in actuality, none of these people (with the possible exception of Patty Murray) who get elected to the Senate are really dumb.

Harry Reid must have something going for him that we just can't see. Maybe he is great at backroom deals or has some power to reward or punish, but I sure don't know what it would be.

Whatever the skills, talents or personality that made him successful are, he sure manages to keep them hidden.

Brilliant idea.

26. Reid, like all cultural Marxists, proclaims the inevitability of what he wants. It's just another trick they play to disarm us. Instead, let us see it as a call to arms.

27. I had to look up "fisting" in Wikipedia to even know exactly what it is. Jennings and the other czars are something else (!).

28. Is there a liberal here who can explain the details of Harry Reid's compromise? Is it to lower the Medicare age to 55, thus encouraging more early retirement which will lower revenues and raise spending?

What is it?

Posted by: Gary on December 9, 2009 01:15 PM
29. Does Harry Reid not recognize that it was the Republican Party that fought against the institution of slavery? It was his Democratic party that promoted racial discrimination in the post Civil War South. It was his party that fought civil rights legislation as late as the 1960's. Civil rights legislation would never have passed without Republican support. Reid also forgets that a Republican President , Dwight Eisenhower, sent federal troops to Arkansas in order to defend the rights of African American schoolchildren to attend a public school. A Democratic governor tried to bar them from attending school.

Harry Reid is twisting history as Democrats so often do. The sooner we throw them out of office the better.

31. HA! Now Harry wants the Senate to adjourn for the weekend so that he can fund raise in New Orleans.

I guess he's the slaveholder now for obstructing debate.

33. I predict that Harry Reid's "luck" will run out, maybe as soon as before Xmas, and definitely in No.v, 2010, whether Obamalosi-Reid Care passes or not.

There is still time to let your sentiments be known to the Senators - at least you will have done your part to derail this runaway train that is a ticking time bomb for the well being of millions of Americans.
