Senator Murray Packs Her Bags

The Seattle Times published an article Saturday that reads like it was written by Senator Murray's campaign staff, a fluff piece if there ever was one. It extolled the virtues of another taxpayer-funded trip to China for Murray. Two other Senators, Kit Bond (R) Missouri and Roland Burris (D) Illinois, whose terms are up this year, as is Murray's, are joining her on the junket.

Excuse me but Senator Bond is not running for re-election and Senator Burris, appointed to the Senate by former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich during the "Obama Senate seat for sale" scandal, has opted out also. Are these trips like a gold watch for retirees, one more spin around the globe on Uncle Sam.

Of course if the trip means the "Mom in tennis shoes" is about to announce her retirement from political office, well I could be a little more charitable.

1. Let's hope so!

2. It's time for Patty Murray to go. She's stopped listening. When I call her office to complain about all the spending, all the credit-card mentality in DC, all the wasteful military spending Patty inserts into bills in order to please companies who donated thousands to her campaign chest even tho the military doesn't want the wasteful items she forces them to buy, it falls on deaf ears.

Now Murray wants to turn our medical care system into Canada's. Sorry, Patty, you're not doing it FOR America, you're doing it TO America. You've stopped listening. Time to go.

4. The election of Patty Murray to the Senate represents the begining of the end of professionalism in politics.

A recent column by my beloved Joni Balter expressed the notion, I think in one paragraph, that Susan Hutchison, a network news anchor, would be too inexperienced to replace the august Murray.

Patty has a pending bill to make the use of a single fiber of asbestos in a product a federal crime.

Just as dumb as legally defining CO2 as a pollutant. She enthusiastly supported that determination.

I sigh. I pollute.

Chrysotile asbestos WAS (and is) a safe and essential ingredient in many modern products. Ask the surviving family members of the Challenger disaster for confirmation.

Or the surviving family members of the victims of automobile brake lining failures now that pig hair has replaced asbestos in that product.

I brake. I stop long.

5. We will never be rid of the dim bulb (uh dimmest bulb) who has the title of Senator. Its quite an indictment of our system that we end up w/ a moron like Patty. And i really do think she is not very intelligent (i use Moron as descriptor...not as invective per se).

Of course i think it was Rod Chandler ? that she beat....which perhaps serves us right.

maybe our only hope is to nudge the elections the way of more capable democrats

that said, mcdermott, cantwell, gregoire are smart.....but i still don't want their brand of politics and issues..

6. Oh dear ... looks like Patty Murray is gonna have to win this one without any help from the wingnut vote.

...dimmest bulb...

and yet, this dim bulb has beat the pants off the best the WSRP brain trust has had to offer for three times running, going for four. Doesn't say much good about your team, does it?

7. The Tea Party goers need to get involved in throwing their support behind the strongest R candidate, so they may have a chance to defeat Murray. Go ahead and laugh if you are a progressive. People are pissed off at government corruption, employment and higher taxes and Government run health care rammed down our throats -more than ever before and they will blame on the party in power.

Why this state keeps electing Murray are symptoms of
1) Dysfunctional voters who extol apathy in the Soviet socialist Republic of Washington
2) A flawed GOP challenger (Nethercutt was the most recent)

If Patty "Light" retires, which I don't see happening, that won't do anything to change the approach by the opposition to the Democratic party. It's time for Patty Murray to go - she's not as bad as Boxer, Pelosi or Reid, but she is part of the problem today that exists that is out of touch with most voters.

8. for #6 comment, scott..
patty as dim bulb who keeps winning...might be a reason to make fun of the GOP...but i think it speaks far more for the state of our dominant democratic party. She is foolish and ill informed, yet keeps winning.

Maybe its the big outside money that keeps her afloat...she is afterall the darling of left wing interest groups, including NARAL, Emily's list.

I have friends who have met her; big lefties and they shake their heads in disbelief..

9. I don't know if Senator Murray getting elected 3 times and maybe a 4th time says more about the Republicans who can't beat her or the Democrats that vote for her.

10. Anyone care to guess on why our left coast has so many left wing women politicians (feinstein, boxer, cantwell, murry, gregoire..surely some in oregon i don't know...etc..?)

11. "Patty has a pending bill to make the use of a single fiber of asbestos in a product a federal crime."

Bart,

Can you detail the jewelry products that are made of Chrysotile (asbestos)? I don't have the resources available.

12. Funny thing about the gold watch - when you retire you don't need a watch anymore. When Patty retires we'll find out we never needed her.

Posted by: carter on January 10, 2010 08:21 PM
13. How about this to explain why Patty Murray has been re-elected three times.

Smart people don't want to be senators.

Ed,

I can't think of any jewelry made with chryostile, though gem serpentine is the same mineral. I treasure my asbestos flame resistant lab materials. Jewelers use them to. In preference to glass wool and hardboard.

14. the article was published on friday, not saturday.

Excuse me but Senator Bond is not running for re-election and Senator Burris... has opted out also.

this bit wasn't in the times article - so i'm not really sure why your panties are in a wad (wrt to the whole 'excuse me' bit)

also, this hardly reads like a 'fluff piece' (although i'm sure you are quite the expert on 'fluffing')

it'll be interesting to see the next candidate the R's float to be demolished by patty. a tea bagger? will make nethercutt's demoralizing loss look good!

michelle:
Murray wants to turn our medical care system into Canada's - you should stop lying - i wish she wanted to do this. i wish all our leaders had the foresight and integrity to be so bold. but alas, it's not meant to be, and americans will continue to significantly overpay for health care.

and not to point out the obvious, but with 3 resounding wins, she's apparently listening rather well.

15. Too bad she doesn't pack her bags permanently. She does not represent the people in this state. She is a party follower and beholden to special interest groups.

16. Sen. Rebock has a bull's eye painted on her Senate Seat. Her brain-dead party line approach to being a US Senator will be great debate fodder. That is if the party wants her back and she can get that far. We have not a serious senator since the Maggi / Scoop days. A former Washington Redskin now Washington farmer, Clint Diddier is throwing his hat in the ring as a conservitive Republican. He never been in politics and has a Superbowl ring or two. He also coaches HS football and runs a business (farm). Thats way more qualification than Patty has ever had.

17. I agree with #15 Harry's post !! I also went to a website recomended by the Olympia Tea Party where you grde your politicians check their website for details and what this website asked is if people would vote for her again th answer was a big no! by an overwhelming extent.Icheck into it again and update the info I get.Iwould make it to the Olympia tea party event on thurs but, hubbys caris in the shopright now so I do what I can.

18. Al Franken is what saves Washington from having the dumbest senator.

Posted by: PC on January 11, 2010 06:51 PM
19. Sadly she has the safest seat in the Senate. Remember, seattle folks would vote for a yellow dog if it was a Dem (hence our gaggle of yellow dog democrats)

20. If Murray needs any help packing her bags, I will be most willing to help. She (Murray) stopped listening to her constituents years ago. She continually votes to support jobs and amnesty for illegal aliens when tens of thousands of her constituents are out of work and in the bread line.

Good ridance, she won't be missed.
