One Thing I Admire About The Seattle Times Is Their Careful Fact Checking

Here's part of a Seattle Times story.

Protesters have been demonstrating at Driehaus' Ohio home, said Tim Mulvey, a spokesman for the anti-abortion Democrat who joined Stupak in voting for the health bill.  A rock was thrown through the window of Driehaus' Cincinnati office Sunday, and a death threat was phoned in to his Washington office a day later, Mulvey said.

(Emphasis added.)

And here are the facts.

Would the Times have checked the story more carefully if the parties were reversed?

1. In the same story is another careless non-factoid they ran with like the obamazombies they are.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, shouted "baby killer" as anti-abortion Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak explained why he decided to vote for the bill.~ Seattle Times

The reality is that Neugebauer shouted "it's a baby killer" as in, the bill, not Stupak. Democrats hyperventilated insisting that he was referring to Stupak and the liberal press (is there any other) ran with it. Then, following passage to a wildly unpopular bill, Democrats began making up stories about racist shouts and spitting on member of Congress though the Capitol police say no such events happened that they are aware of. Cowards will always try to deflect from their unpopular actions and Democrat politicians are well versed in such tactics.

As long as people in this region continue to listen to the likes of Dave Ross, who has increasingly become a committed obamazombie of late, they just live in the echo chamber of liberal ideology where the ends justify the means. Integrity and honesty are sacrificed for the sake of the party. If you want to see the true face of hate, click on any popular liberal blog and you'll see that their hate has bee 'mainstreamed' by the media, while that same media apparatus calls talk radio "hate radio".

A clear disconnect with reality and perception.

2. OF COURSE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE REPORTED IT DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE THE SEATTLE TIMES AND THE NATIONAL MEDIA ARE BIASED.

4. Anyone who cares to look can see that the real violence is on the left. Remember the Battle in Seattle? Remember flag burnings in Portland? How about the burning effigies of Bush? Tire slashings in Wilwaukee?

But they desperately cling to the angry tea partier narrative, because these are the talking points they've been handed.

What's laughable is that the tea parties are mostly khaki clad men and grandmas and grandpas. If you want an angry protest, you've got to go to Zombie's site and check out the protests on the left.

5. Apparently a rock was thrown through the window of the local Democratic party headquarters, not Driehaus's office. I hate to defend the Seattle Times, but (a) they don't generally fact check wire service reports and (b) it hardly matters which Democratic organization had a rock thrown through its window. Is that the best defense you can come up with?

6. Lets get Real!...These Phony stories about Conservatives committing Anarchy against Democrats carried by the MSM is not done because of poor checking of facts before running the story. It is Deliberately done to willfully paint Conservatives as Evil Doers. To make American Patriots the Lawless Bad Guys. It is done to demonize and target anybody who would speak and be against this Act and future Acts of Tyranny and Socialism upon the American People. This is a necessary step to have the excuse to shut down Dissent and Freedom of Speech. Soon they will be able to send their AmeriCorps/Brown Shirts to Silence all Dissent. Goodbye America and Hello Socialism.

7. You ask if they would report violence if the parties were reversed?

Are they reporting gunshots into Eric Cantor's campaign office overnight?

9. A reporter for the Seattle Times told me a few years ago that he had never even taken ONE journalism class-

No wonder there is no fact-checking going on- that explains a lot... and so much the worse for America...

10. Hi. This is Leon Espinoza, executive news editor of The Seattle Times. We do care about getting the fact right. We picked up the information in question from the Bloomberg News wire service. Today, our wire editor called Tim Mulvey, the spokesman for Ohio Democratic Rep. Steve Driehaus. Mulvey, who was quoted in the article, said he was misquoted about where the rock was thrown. When contacted, Bloomberg said it would investigate. We are publishing this correction in print and have corrected the information at our Web site.
Correction: A story Thursday about vandalism and threats triggered by the health-care overhaul vote said a rock was thrown through the window of Ohio Democratic Rep. Steve Driehaus' Cincinnati office Sunday. The statement was attributed to Driehaus' spokesman Tim Mulvey. Mulvey said Friday that he was misquoted by Bloomberg. A brick was thrown through the window of Hamilton County Democratic Party headquarters in Cincinnati, Mulvey said.

11. Leon again. Bloomberg has just moved a correction. And the correction we publish in print and online will say rock thrown through the window (the sharpest-eyed among you probably noticed we said brick in the correction wording in the post above).

12. Yeah, Leon...Did it ever enter your mind of the possibility of the rock/brick being thrown through the window was a Lie. Yeah, Right!...We want to make sure that we get it correct as to whether it was a brick or a rock for that is far more important as to whether the story is true or not. Beyond that...Did it ever enter your mind that if this did occur, that it might be a setup by the Left to create a wrong doing and blame it on the Right. Naah, of course Not! The Left is always represented by "Good People". The fact that all the recent Riots and Destructive Protests have all been the doing of the Left and that our prisons are full of Lefties gives no reason to have suspicions of whether a Lefty type story is true or not. Good reporting, Seattle Times.

13. The paranoia in this country is alarming. People like Daniel need universal mental-health coverage.

14. To Daniel's mom...Only the Easy Believers are limited in their suspicions and questions. In the Bible, it says you are to question, question everything for the World is full of Deceit. But then, Liberals rarely read the Bible. That's why, they are so easily Conned and Led by Men more clever than they are.

15. Thanks to Mr. Espinoza for the explanation, and the corrections in the Times.

But permit me to wonder, if the Times's hilarious error hadn't been published on the Instapundit blog, for all its hundreds of thousands of readers to see, would the Times gone to such lengths to fix the problem? Times errors have been shown on this blog plenty of times, and I don't think that their Executive News Editor bestirred himself so promptly and properly on those occasions.

16. Mr. Leon Espinoza:

Can we expect a correction of your papers other error in that piece that was taken out of context? That Rep. Neugebauer shouted "it's a baby killer", and not what your paper ran as calling Bart Stupak a "baby kiler".

Pardon me if I don't hold my breath waiting on that to happen.
