Two Reminders:

Tomorrow, you can join Rob McKenna in a live chat.

Join Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna for a live chat with Seattle Times politics reporter Jim Brunner on Thursday, April 1, from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.  They'll discuss McKenna's reasons for joining a multi-state lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the health-care reform package.  Seattle Times invites questions in advance of Thursday's chat.  Submit questions in advance [email: livechat@seattletimes.com].  Please include your first name and area of residence.  Questions and comments made during the live chat will be moderated.   Time constraints may preclude us from addressing every question.

Tomorrow evening, the King County Young Republicans are hosting a Senate candidate forum.

When: Thursday, April 1st, 2010 6:45pm
Location: North Bellevue Community Center
4063 148th Ave NE, Bellevue, 98007

If you are planning to attend, please let them know at the rsvp link, which you can find at the site.

(I may cover the event, although I am by no means a young Republican, even by the most generous definition.)

1. If you are YOUNG AT HEART, you are welcome at this KCYR event!!

2. No matter what others say, I think it is still interesting and useful maybe necessary to improve some minor things

3. It is telling that the King County Young Republicans' home page says, regarding the candidate forum, "This event is free and welcome to conservatives of all ages." (emphasis mine) I know the party touts conservative positions, and that's certainly their right, but to say that you're not welcome unless you consider yourself a conservative explains a lot about why the Republican party is increasingly irrelevant in this state.

4. Hey Bruce,

Where was the open public invite to all citizens impacted by HCR at the Union Hall in South Seattle last week? Gregoire, Cantwell, Murray all anxious to preach to the true believers. Maybe they just wanted to speak to people who would not question them.

Posted by: Smokie on March 31, 2010 08:12 PM
5. Smokie, I'm not suggesting a public invite, but shouldn't the Young Republican organization at least encourage all young Republicans to attend their events? Can't you be a Republican without being conservative? It's their club and they can invite whoever they want, of course, but their choice of words is telling.

6. ...but to say that you're not welcome unless you consider yourself a conservative...

I don't recall that exact phrase being used, Bruce. Care to share? Apparently you're confused that this is the KCYR and not the KCYD, whom I'm sure would be entirely welcoming of a conservative at their gatherings of like-minded Obama zombies at their meetings. Perhaps you needs to visit the KCYD site and point out the difference in welcoming counter viewpoints at their gatherings.

7. Can't you be a Republican without being conservative?

I think you've got that backwards, Bruce. I self identify as a libertarian more than I do as a member of the Republican party, as do many people.

Posted by: Rick D. on March 31, 2010 08:38 PM
8. RickD, I quoted the exact phrase in #3. And yes, I checked the KCYD site and they welcome any members who prefer the Democratic party. Hey, I've never been to any event held by either group, and anyway, I don't expect any Republican group to welcome me. But I'm surprised that the KCYR doesn't want people who consider themselves moderate Republicans rather than conservatives. Do they doubt those people exist or just not want them at their events?

9. If you don't like the way the organization runs it's programs, by all means join them and work for change within the group.

It's funny that the only venue chosen by elected leadership in this State to discuss the subject of HCR is a private Union Hall in front of Unionists. But, as you say it's their club, they can restrict access to whomever they want, of course their choice of venue and audience is telling. No tax on Cadillac benefits for union members until 2018 (If ever). The best politicians money can buy.

What was the name of the new Labor Secretary again? You know the one who was recess appointed by Obama...Andy Stern head of the SEIU wasn't it?

10. For the record, any conservatives are welcome. But if you're not a conservative you can come too.

However, if you're a whiny little sissy-boy it's best to just stay home so your precious feelings don't get hurt...

There are well over 150 people signed up to attend the forum (of all different political stripes) and we're expecting at least 200. There appears to be quite a lot of interest at to who the next U.S. Senator will be in Washington state.

11. Smokie@9, you totally missed my point again. The health care event was not run by the young Democrats. My point was that a group calling itself young Republicans seems to want to only a specific type of Republican.

But never mind. I think it's great that the Republican party wants only those young people who self-identify as conservatives. No sense polluting the party with too many members. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: Bruce on March 31, 2010 08:53 PM
12. I quoted the exact phrase in #3

You inferred from the phrase that others were "not welcome" because they said "This event is free and welcome to conservatives of all ages." but that is exactly that, your interpretation. Likewise, is an elderly person that self identifies as a Democrat also to imply that when the KCYD say on their website"Hey Young Democrats!" that they are excluding those Democrats that aren't young?

We can split hairs all day long, Bruce. But at the end of the day, it's very illustrative of the differences between the left and the right. One side is always looking for a reason to be offended.

13. Stop your trolling Bruce,

The event listing on the KCYR Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=381559116390&index=1
and the Meetup site http://youngrepublicans.meetup.com/86/calendar/12522048/ don't say anything about "having to be a conservative" if that makes you feel better.
And for that matter, neither did the KCYR homepage, despite your misreading.

Posted by: Don Ward on March 31, 2010 09:26 PM
14. Rick & Don, if the KCYR home page said "This event is free and welcome to whites", would that be OK because it didn't explicitly exclude non-whites?

Posted by: Bruce on March 31, 2010 09:54 PM
15. @ 14 ~ enjoy the rubber room, Bruce. I don't have time for those that deal in unrealized hypotheticals that have no basis in reality. I must say, though, if you're looking for windmills to joust at along your journey in life, you're bound to find them.

16. Tell ya what, Bruce. Maybe you should go snivel to the YR's. I'm sure they'd let you serve coffee, or put out chairs or something.

But what purpose would be served by allowing your sort in, who would just serve to disrupt and bitch and moan and complain?

You don't like the YR's meeting? Then go hold your own meeting. But they are certainly not required to either answer to you or gain your approval for the who, what, when, where, how and why of their meetings.

So get over it... and get over yourself. Because frankly, we don't give a damn what you think.

18. Another reason for people to support Mckenna -- don't forget that George Soros has formed a group specifically to target Secretaries of State races, so that Democrats can ensure all elections decisions are made in their favor, all votes are counted in their favor, etc...
