Local SEIU Chapter Refuses To Condemn Actions in Maryland

And threatens to call police!

That's right. After hearing this horrible story about an SEIU group in Maryland terrorizing someone's private residence I contacted one of the local SEIU chapters and asked them if they condoned this sort of behavior and if not would they be willing to issue a press release stating so. The woman on the phone feigned ignorance for awhile and then put what I assume was her supervisor on the phone. He feigned ignorance for a moment and then told me if I ever called again he'd call the police.

So I guess 500 people showing up with bullhorns and signs aplenty on someone's private front doorstep is okay (as well as beating up a black man because he doesn't fit the liberal mold he's supposed to) but if a concerned citizen asks them to condemn such behavior he should be arrested.

Please guys, show just a teeny bit of respect for peoples personal property. Wouldn't protesting outside an actual Bank of America building be a bit more reasonable?

1. Maybe our president should inquire into this action by these punks when he meets regularly with the SEIU head in D.C. But then, he probably approves of these tactics so I doubt he'll have the moral courage to do this.

2. As a member in good standing (they take 3% of my check as a home health worker making around $10.00 / hour (just try to withdraw)) this is more than just a group of thugs, SEIU and their freinds in Olympia (Christine and her cohorts) are a disgrace to unions and labor. Most of the members are purple shirted kool aid drinkers who blindly follow the edicts of the so called "labor leaders" who cozy up to the tax and spend crowd in Olympia with no regard for the actual laborers or taxpayers. I'm at work at a real job or I'd continue.

3. And the Senate wants to bail out their pensions with $165 billion of our money, so that our money can then go back to the Senators via the unions.

This government has become completely disconnected from the population. It's become criminal. And the government used the DC police to escort the union mob to this person's house.

4. Yeah, that's it - side with the banks and against the people. The death of the GOP is a sad and funny thing to watch.

5. We'll see more of these tactics -- HuffPo posted a list of my political donations AND A MAP TO MY HOUSE on their site during the 2008 election cycle. My neighbor's car was vandalized shortly afterwards -- he had a McCain sticker on it.

I can just imagine if our roles were reversed and Republicans were acting like this.

6. John Galt - you are mistaken if you think the average American thinks it's A-OK to harass a bank executive at his home.

Posted by: Doug Smith on May 25, 2010 11:06 AM
7. I do want to clear up the rumor that the DC police escorted the mob to this house. They did not. An DC officer one block outside her jurisdiction (this house) saw what was happening and called it in to local officers.

And John, I suggest you go reread Atlas Shrugged. You obviously missed the point of that book as well as this post.

8. "side with the banks against the people."

Who the hell speaks for "the people"?

It sure as hell ain't the SEIU and its busloads of government-employed leeches.

Lets borrow a page from the marxist playbook and pay mob visits to the Chris Dodd or Barney Frank homes.
Afterall, those cobs made it possible for people with no assets to purchase homes they could not possibly afford to own.

9. If this were the other way around -- the Tea Party on someone's front lawn -- President Obama himself would be all over the news decrying it, along with every major press outlet.

This is amazing. What terrible, awful, people.

10. Doug Smith: right on.

It's one thing to take a position on what the law should be, and whether banks did things wrong here or there.

It's entirely another to storm the house of a private individual, trespassing, probably destroying property (if that many people came to my yard, there's no doubt they would cause significant harm to my lawn and plants), and intimidating him and his family.

Galt is a moron if he thinks that the overwhelming majority of Americans won't see this and be aghast at how extreme and terrible these SEIU there are.

11. I hate the SEIU... and this comes from someone who used to have to be a member.

Posted by: Mike H on May 25, 2010 12:16 PM
12. @7, Mark Griswold...After the Cops were called and arrived at the scene, they hung around the SEIU like a protective blanket. They did not protect the property from the trespass of the SEIU thugs. They did not move the SEIU off the property. It was like they were supporters of SEIU. After all, the Cops are Union members too. No, if the Cops did their jobs like they are paid to do, they would not only have moved the SEIU off the private property, they would have dispersed the SEIU mob and not stand around as if in support of the SEIU.

13. What's all the fuss? This is just playbook "Community Organizing." As our Commander-In-Cheif's mentor's motto was "The most effective means are whatever will achieve the desired results."

These SEIU thugs were just being effective. They were just doing as they were taught by Alinsky ... "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it…. [T]here is no point to tactics unless one has a target upon which to center the attacks."

This bank executive was the target. If you don't like someone's politics, you do what any normal ordinary union thug does. Bring a gang to their home and exhibit a very menacing presence. There must be some purple Nobel Prize Finisher medals that need to be handed out to all of these fine folks. And all of them deserve extra benefits, retirement at 50 and a lifetime pension for working in a service union, because that's such a huge value to society.

Hope and Change! Union pride!

14. Going to get ugly. People won't put up with being ripped off forever. And now we have union mobs on peoples' private property, while demanding that we bail out their pensions... getting ugly.

15. The SEIU is proving to be Obama's civilian national security force!!! Pudge - you are 100% correct!!

16. I never said the cops couldn't have done more, simply that DC police did not escort the SEIU into Maryland. We've got to be accurate in our accusations or we lose credebility, especially when we're impugning the behavior of a group as well respected as law enforcement.

20. What a ridiculous post. First of all you give no evidence for why you say these people were "terrorizing" anyone. Second, even if they were wrong, there is no reason for the local SEIU to make a statement or issue a press release on an event that they had nothing to do with. And if they threatened to call the police on you, I'm guessing there was more to your conversation than you described.

Posted by: Bruce on May 25, 2010 01:57 PM
21. Bruce, you think it's hard for the local SEIU to say it's wrong for a union mob to march on someone's *house*?

And you think Mark is threatening???

23. @16, Mark Griswold...You are correct, you did not say the Cops couldn't have done more and clarified that the Cops didn't escort the SEIU into Maryland. Unfortunately, I must disagree with you in referring to Law Enforcement as being well respected when, clearly they didn't do their job in protecting Private Property and relieving the Community of a Mob causing willful disruption and fear in the Community at large. Your high respect for Law Enforcement may be reduced if times are such, that Government will order them to violate the Rights of Citizenry as to the confiscation of Arms. You would find that the vast majority of Law Enforcement would act against the Citizenry in a heart beat. Currently, you will find your well respected Law Enforcement writing high priced confiscatory tickets for any minor traffic violation. Yes, your highly respected Law Enforcement especially, in traffic enforcement such as, the Washington State Patrol, have not gotten the name of Highway Bandits for nothing.

Yeah...The Union members of the SEIU will follow orders Rightfully or Wrongfully and Union members of the Police have proved they are not too far behind.

24. #20 "What a ridiculous post. First of all you give no evidence for why you say these people were "terrorizing" anyone."

"And if they threatened to call the police on you, I'm guessing there was more to your conversation than you described."

I cannot get over this contradiction. Bruce, the kid in the house locked himself in the bathroom. And then, with no evidence, you suggest that Mark committed some sort of crime worthy of having the cops called in for.

This excusing of mob intimidation is getting out of hand. The liberals also didn't care when SEIU beat Kenneth Gladney in the street.

25. Daniel, are there dirty cops out there? Yes. Are there cops that would turn on the citizenry and blindly follow a corrupt government's orders to cease the citizenry and put us on cattle cars bound for death camps? Yea, there are probably a few. But if you were to poll the law enforcement community you'd fine that the VAST MAJORITY of them share our conservative values. Accusing law enforcement of aiding and abetting the thugary that took place in Maryland earlier this week doesn't help our side. Again, could they have done more? Probably, but did they stand idly by and do absolutely nothing? Not according to the officer that was on Megyn Kelly's show this morning. She scolded him for not doing more but she certainly didn't accuse him of aiding the SEIU after hearing his side of the story (and I'm going to take the word of a law enforcement officer over the word of a blogger who heard from a guy who heard from a guy that heard a rumor on the street).

And not that I'm excusing the fact that they didn't do more, consider this. With groups like the ACLU foaming at the mouth to throw cops in jail while criminals are set free, perhaps cops are being a little more cautious than they used to be because they don't want to get charged with violating someone's "civil rights", kicked off the force and sued for just doing there jobs. Gone are the days when cops used to be able to whack someone over the head when they were being unruly. Pretty soon they'll be charged with assault for not saying "pretty please" and genuflecting before the "criminal".

27. Gary@21/24, you apparently misread my post #20. I didn't defend the SEIU, but I said (a) there was no evidence of "terrorizing", (b) there was no reason for the local SEIU to comment, and (c) it was implausible that Griswold had given a full account of his phone call.

You didn't rebut any of these points, but instead put words in my mouth ("you think it's hard", "you think Mark is threatening", "you suggest that Mark committeed some sort of crime", "this excusing of"). I didn't say any of those things. Make up any crap you want, but don't put it in my mouth.

Posted by: Bruce on May 25, 2010 02:54 PM
28. Gosh, Bruce... if 500 people who hated you showed up on your property, you wouldn't feel just a teensy bit terrorized?

I sure has hell would.

Posted by: Gary on May 25, 2010 03:02 PM
29. Hundreds of people trespassing on private property, literally right outside his front door blocking entry and screaming "greed" is certainly 'terrorizing' that residence.

Posted by: Palouse on May 25, 2010 03:13 PM
30. Bruce,
(a) So if I show up on your front door with 499 of my closet friends, carrying bullhorns and protest signs, all while your teenage son is hiding, terrified, in the bathroom, you wouldn't feel terrorized? I suppose it (please note that the etymology of the words terrorized and terrified are the same so, technically, someone who is terrified is being terrorized). But tell you what, if it makes you feel better I can change my post to read they "vandalized" the home instead of terrorized it. Or does causing damage to someone's lawn (as a group of 500 angry folks would likely do), not fall into your definition of vandalism either.

(b) There's no reason for them to issue a press release, no, (just like there's really no reason for anyone to comment on anything but yet it happens) but they could have at least responded to my request for a response (you know, so that my blog post could have said, "I called the local SEIU and they said that they did not find this sort of action concurrent with their goals and reassure me that their chapter would never engage in such behavior.") instead of acting as if they had no idea what I was talking about and threatening to call the cops on me.

(c) you're absolutely right! I did give a full transcript of my conversation. If I were to guess, I'd say the fact that, after feigning ignorance I didn't just say "thank you" and hang up, but reminded them of the incident and then continued to ask if they supported such action and if so, why, probably annoyed them to the point where they tried to scare me off by threatening police action. (Now, why they threatened to call the cops instead of threatening to send 500 people over to my front door is beyond me.)

Beck Rights.

Demand to see financial disclosures for collective bargaining and political activities.

You only have to pay for the collective bargaining portion. BY LAW, not the political activities.

SEIU came to organize my wife's work place, we insisted up the disclosure. It got ugly for awhile, I mean concealed carry every time we left the house ugly. The would accost her at work, follow her home, be waiting on our front steps.

SEIU finally decided letting my wife "slide" was a better option than the required disclosure.
