Judy Fenton is running for Seattle City Council, position 9. She has been endorsed by the King County Republican Party. Below is are excerpts from her voters' guide statement. The entire text of Judy Fenton's voter statement is available online at http://www2.ci.seattle.wa.us/ethics/votersguide.asp
SAFETY ON THE STREETS: POLICE AND CRIME
Judy Fenton says "we need to hire more police to crack down on drug dealing and violence. We have the same number of officers as two decades ago. An effective police force lays the foundation for economic strength and a stable society."
PROTECTING TAXPAYERS AND SMALL BUSINESSES: SPENDING AND TAXES
Judy Fenton believes that Seattle should "prioritize spending in order to pay for basic city services and infrastructure maintenance without adding new levies and taxes." And she favors "audits to eliminate duplication of effort and waste, and more competitive contracting." Judy Fenton knows that any city, to thrive, must have a positive business climate - "because Seattle needs a sound tax base, business should not be over-taxed," she says.
IMPROVE TRAFFIC INSTEAD OF MAKING IT WORSE
Judy Fenton states that "retrofitting the viaduct is an efficient, economical, realistic solution." She opposes efforts to tear down the viaduct: "The current City Council recently voted to fund a study to destroy our Viaduct. They want to put the vehicles on the streets of downtown Seattle. Reality check: Our Viaduct moves 115,000 cars, buses and trucks daily. It raises traffic above the ground level, making the waterfront friendly to tourism and local traffic. What will happen to downtown traffic if we add 115,000 vehicles to the surface streets? Will business want to stay here?"
