A preview of the WA state GOP convention?

The Nevada State GOP this weekend held its nominating convetion for president. The state leadership expected the convention delegates to rubber stamp the pre-chosen slate of delegates for the national convention. By a vote of over 700-400 the delegates said heck no! The state leadership seeing that they were not going to be able to ram through their pre chosen McCain delegates then chose to screw over all the delegates by calling for recess denying the delegates a chance to vote after spending lots of money to be there.

Will WA state GOP leadership do something similar if things do not go there way in Spokane? Already I have heard reports of Spokane County, Clark County & Whatcom County having a large majority or Paul supporters. Will the state GOP try and disenfrachise these Paul delagates in order to 'show unity' at the national convention?

What good is unity when it is achieved by throwing out all the opposition rather than winning them over?

1. Or the reverse, What good is it to anger the majority rather than winning THEM OVER? If Ron Paul wants to run again, it seems to me that making enemies is a wrong headed idea right now!

2. How did Paul or his supporters make enemies? By demanding that the delegates actually get to nominate and vote on who to send to the national convention? Or by voting for Ron Paul? Neither seem to be what I would call 'making enemies'. Other than some yelling after the chair ended the convention rematurely all reports seem to indicate that in fact the Ron Paul delegates were very polite and well received.

And to top things off it is being estimated that Ron Paul and his supporters converted approximately 10% of the delegates to support him at the convention. That to me would indicate he is gaining supporters, not making enemies.

The GOP establishment on the otherhand has alot of negative commments from Romney & McCain supporters based on their actions this past weekend. Many people spent upwards to 1000 bucks for the chance to travel and be a delegate. They get there and find out the establishment expects them to rubber stamp things and go home. And when they do not do as told, they do not even get to do the rubber stamp... just go home! That is so disrespectful it is unbeleivable! That is how you make enemies not just from opposing candidates supporters but your own!!!

3. The amazing thing is that the Nevada GOP leaders would ruin their own reputations for so small a price. What they did was really slimy. But what did they gain? Nothing. If all of Nevada's delegates had gone to Ron Paul, McCain still has way more than the minimum needed to guarantee him the nomination. They could even have kept their own positions within the State party. But now they will all be voted out at the first opportunity. Deservedly.

But I doubt the Ron Paul supporters will have the majority they need to win in Spokane. I do wish them luck, though. Just as in the 43rd district, the old guard will have an accurate count of how many McCain supporters are there, and will make sure they exceed the number of Ron Paul supporters.

It is a shame that this is about power struggles within the party. The GOP could gain a lot of strength by absorbing the Ron Paul revolution instead of resisting it.

4. It is hard for me to understand all this 'much ado about nothing' that has been blogged here. Yes, the Nevada State Republicans adjourned, at the time set in the agenda for the day. They did not have the room after that time. They did NOT adjourn permanently. They could NOT adjourn to a specific date and time. How do you do that when you do not know where you can reserve a room and for what price and date? That is ridiculous. It was very clearly reported in the the newspapers that they are having another meeting and were looking for a place to do so. That is neither skulduggery or liberal Republicans or anyone else. It's the facts. Sometimes stuff takes a long time and you cannot adjourn to a specific day and time and place, because you don't know where that will be, so you have to just do it non specific and find another place and start voting as soon as you get there. There won't be the arguments about the rules to take time, so they can get on with it.

How can the Nevada State Republicans be such bums if the State Party Chair actually invited the guru himself Ron Paul to speak to be fair? She was not obliged to do that, since McCain was not coming. She could have just let someone speak for him to be 'totally fair' to McCain.
As I said, more irrational ranting and raving and babbling about half truths and things said in total ignorance. Get a clue you Ron Paul people. A lot of you are so paranoid, you think everyone is out to get Ron Paul. If you want to be absorbed into the party, then stop stirring the pot with such rubbish.

5. Ruth,

They did not just adjourn at the time set for the day, they had no set time. They claimed the room was no longer theirs but the hotel had allowed them free time to finish. Even if they charged people were willing to chip in to get the business done.

Of course they did not djourn permanently, they adjourned temporarily because they saw they were losing and figured they could try and get better organized during the recess.
