From the Jawa Report: Hope, Change, & Lies: Orchestrated "Grassroots" Smear Campaigns & the People that Run Them
Extensive research was conducted by the Jawa Report to determine the source of smears directed toward Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Those smears included false allegations that she belonged to a secessionist political party and that she has radical anti-American views.

Our research suggests that a subdivision of one of the largest public relations firms in the world most likely started and promulgated rumors about Sarah Palin that were known to be false. These rumors were spread in a surreptitious manner to avoid exposure.

It is also likely that the PR firm was paid by outside sources to run the smear campaign. While not conclusive, evidence suggests a link to the Barack Obama campaign. Namely:

Typical to Obama's previous race, surrogates do the dirty work.
READ THE WHOLE THING.

1. All the true blogs are all over this report today.

But, in my mind, it was no surprise.

2. Read this yesterday based on a link from some of the other commenters. Typical. Should we be at all surprised that the left would stoop to such tactics. And moreover, that they would be so blatant as to get caught? One of the conservative 527s should run a Television ad on this in the swing states. The Democrats can't win without cheating.

3. Mr. Winner today says he had to retract and denounce the source of his funding and say it was a posting he did himself and paid by himself.

What is incredulous is he went to all that effort to hide his work and he had to pay outside voice-over.

4. What is sad is that it seems to me that all the attacks on Palin are taking a toll, and is reflected in polling. The volley attacks against Bush proved to be very effective (i.e. Bush a moron, failure, etc) and they appear to be going for the same strategy against Palin.

This suggests that it might be co-ordinated and calculated, not spontaneous and accidental.
