Now crossposted at the brand new From the Roots Up website: "Putting the Party Back in the Hands of Grassroots Republicans"
It occurred to me today, that if we Republicans want to see our party get back to winning again, and a key to this is more involvement from grassroots Republicans, we need to make it possible for more grassroots Republicans (more than say, the 10 or so who currently show up at Republican leg. district meetings) to attend their monthly Republican leg. district meetings.
Well, of course it's already possible for anyone to come to these meetings. But how does one find out when and where these party meetings take place? Take for instance, if a Republican voter in King or Snohomish Co., who's never been active in the party before, is finally fed up with Republicans losing and wants to get involved and try to help fix this problem, shouldn't he be able to find where his Republican meetings are?
The King County GOP website has the 16 district chairs' contact info up on its "Find Your District Meeting" page. Of those 16 leg. districts:
7 of them have incomplete information about the time and location of their meetings.
6 of them do not have the location of their meetings posted. (1st, 32nd, 34th, 41st, 45th/39th, and my former district: 46th)
5 have the day of the month and time posted, but not the location. (32nd, 34th, 41st, 45th/39th, and the 46th)
1 has neither the time nor the location posted. (1st)
1 has the location, but not the date or time. (37th)
And I hear from individuals in several of these districts in King Co., that they have trouble getting their district chairs to respond to their requests for this information.
The Snohomish Co. party has had trouble for about a year now, with its website. Apparently it's a problem with the firewall, security and hackers. It is very rarely operating. (Could someone with expertise in this area please offer the SCRP some help?) Contacting County HQ by phone is an option for obtaining the information, if you can find the phone number or e-mail address.
I am an active Republican who lives in the 38th, so I happen to know that we meet on the 4th Monday of every month at 7 PM, usually at the Everett Public Library (Though the venue is available on a month to month basis, and at times, other groups beat our district chair to the punch on obtaining the room. In which case, you must be on the currrent contact list to get the updates on any changes.)
A week ago, I contacted our Snohomish County Chair, Geri Modrell to ask for this information as well as the contact info for each of the district chairs. She replied with a list of the e-mail addresses for each of the 5 leg. district chairs and referred me to them for the meeting information. On the same day, I contacted all 5 of them and ONLY ONE, SP's very own--"pudge" replied from the 39th LD. (Thanks, pudge.) But what of the other districts: 10th, 21st/32nd, and 44th?
So if you're a Republican who lives in one of the above districts in King or Snohomish County, and know when your leg. district meets, please do your fellow Republicans a favor and list the info in the comments here. Or if you live in another county whose Republican Party has this information available online, please list the link to the webpage. Or if your county party doesn't have it posted, perhaps you know it and could share it.
Thanks for your help.
Update: What a difference a day makes! Snohomish County Republican website is up today (Nov. 19). Let's hope it stays up. AND they have a page listing when and where the districts meet. But if you live in the 10th LD, you're still in the dark.

Posted by: swatter on November 18, 2008 07:19 AMswatter, I know that many people are like you in that they don't have the time or inclination to go to meetings. But there are some who do have the time and inclination and want to actually have input, rather than just take orders (I'm glad you're willing to do so.), and for that reason, the meeting details should be posted publicly.
