Boycott David Letterman!

David Letterman is a slime mold. Actually that is unfair to slime molds, which serve the valuable ecological function of getting rid of garbage. Letterman only produces garbage.

On a recent show he joked about Sarah Palin's 14-year-old daughter, who had attended a Yankees game in NYC, saying that the girl was 'knocked up' by a Yankee player while at the game.
Notice in the youtube video how the weasel Letterman's tongue darts out and around, about 20 seconds into the clip. Apologies also to weasels everywhere, who really don't deserve any linkage to Letterman. I don't know how a guy like this gets a national show in the first place.

Letterman now is saying that he meant to reference the older daughter Bristol who was not at the game, not the 14-yr-old, who was. It doesn't wash. Lefties such as Letterman put considerable focus on Bristol Palin last year, and now we're supposed to believe that he forgot which daughter was which? After they spent all of last year making Bristol one of the most famous people on the planet?

It is time to hit him where it hurts, in the ad revenue stream. This link has compiled a list of his advertisers, with contact info. I urge everyone to contact them, and let them know that you will be shopping elsewhere as long as they keep their relationship with Letterman. With luck we will soon be reading of Letterman's decision to 'spend more time with his family.'

1. Kudos also to huffpo where it is pointed out that this should not be a partisan matter. We should and do not have to acceded to this garbage whether it is a Letterman, or a Limbaugh making snide comments about Chelsea Clinton. And if some hypothetical conservative bloviator were to make crude remarks about Obama's lovely wife & daughters, we should not idly accept that either.

2. Letterman used to be funny. Now, he's just a cranky mean-spirited leftist who doesn't realize how crude he's become. It's amazing that democrats claim to be "pro-woman", yet spew the MOST amazingly misogynistic garbage you'll read against females who think differently than they do. Let's not forget the "Hatef__k" dustup that went down recently against conservative women by liberal commentators. These people have absolutely no shame; just a lot of misogyny.

3. Yes, then also get rid of the other sickos like Stewart and Maher, and yes, Ann Coulter. Ann, I think, does her thing as a countermeasure to what the others get away with. I think she would be perfectly happy swatting the left with facts and history.

4. @2: It's amazing that democrats claim to be "pro-woman", yet spew the MOST amazingly misogynistic garbage you'll read against females who think differently than they do.

And I'm waiting for your blanket condemnation against all of the conservatives that have done the same thing. Misogyny is quite nonpartisan, and I've heard some foul things coming from conservatives as well.

Or perhaps the Republicans are anti-woman, meaning that they don't need an excuse?

5. @3: Jon Stewart is a "sicko"? Man... you REALLY can't take a joke.

6. Those are jokes? Perhaps you should look in the mirror.

7. problem is, dk, I haven't seen anything near "the same thing" coming from conservatives. I've not seen the equivalent of "hatef__k" lists et al anywhere. Who could forget carville's "trailer trash" comment against a woman who talked about what Bill Clinton did to her? I remember SNL earlier this year did a "skit" accusing Todd Palin of having sex with his daughters. It goes on and on. There's just nothing funny about all that. Yet the left keeps pouring it on, while pretending to be 'pro-woman'. They're not.

8. It seems these days the only people you could get away with saying vile and hateful comments about are republicans.

9. The only time I ever see his show is from clips on Fox News. Why boycott something I, and according to the ratings most everybody else, never watches?

Posted by: deadwood on June 13, 2009 11:07 PM
10. The boycott is of his advertisers, not the show itself. I also normally roll my eyes at boycott proposals, but think the idea is worthwhile this time. I see this as a part of an ongoing smear campaign against Palin, and it is a campaign that has worked. A boycott is the only way I can think of to hit back.

It is not even necessarily for Palin. I was excited about her at first, but she was ill-prepared for the VP spot. It's about not letting a scummy hater like Letterman get away with his 'stuff.'

11. JUST BOYCOTT THE PRODUCTS, OBVIOUSLY HE IS STILL ATTACHED TO MOMS CORD

12. This is the email I just sent to Hellmann's Mayonnaise as they are sponsors of this show. After his disgusting remarks I truly believe that David Letterman is a total piece of garbage but he will only continue on air if those of us who really believe in women's and girls' rights stay silent. My comments to Hellmann's were as follows:

"I REQUEST A RESPONSE FROM YOUR COMPANY TO THIS MESSAGE. I have recently learned that your company is a sponsor of the David Letterman show. As you are well aware, he recently made some disgusting comments about a 14 year old girl and gave what I consider to be a non-apology. I have purchased (just bought a jar last week as a matter of fact) Hellmann's Mayonnaise for many years and love the product but I am sorry to say that I will no longer purchase your product because of the company's association with the David Letterman show. As a woman, I found the so-called joke about this child being sexually violated by a grown man to be completely offensive to me and will no longer purchase any of your company's products. I will also seek out other products made by your parent company and urge everyone I know to also boycott those products. This is really tough since I believe that Hellmann's is the absolutely BEST commercially made mayonnnaise on the market. However, if your company thinks that it's cool for David Letterman to imply that sex with a 14 year old child is funny I will no longer in good conscience be able to purchase ANY product produced by your company and will of course urge others to do the same."

14. You are most welcome 6p01053690976c970c. I just want to reiterate that this is so totally not political for me. I don't care if the remark was made about a liberal's or conservative's daughter (or son for that matter). The fact that a 62 year old man and father himself is so juvenile to believe that his comment even approaches humor makes me sick. The hypocrisy of those trying to defend or blow off his remarks make me even sicker. I wonder if those are the same people who were so outraged by Don Imus' remarks? Probably.

Have a great Sunday!

15. So Letterman has taken another run at an apology. In contrast to the smirking, chortling charade of last time, this apology sounds much more like a sincere actual, apology.

excerpt from Letterman's apology:

"I take full blame for that. I told a bad joke. I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception. And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke. It’s not your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault. That it was misunderstood.” (audience applauds) “Thank you. So I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future. Thank you very much."

That is fair enough by me, and as far as I'm concerned the episode is finis.
